Resident Evil (Questions & Discussions) Thread

2 and 4

I don’t really got a favorite. My bro’s favorite is 2 though.

Mad people love 2. I liked it. But is it because of the setting?

Apparently SA50 doesn’t know about the old “wound-stun, then melee” bread and butter.

crappy? is that why RE2 got really good reviews that’s what made resident evil resident evil

and what makes a good survival horror or just a survival horror? the atmosphere and limitations of the game such as you get less ammo, less life, speed, or the controls that add to the struggle to survive

theres hardly any puzzles any more and the ones they do have are pretty brainless

so far the people that i have met and dislike the old camera angles and gameplay are the people who have only played RE4, RE5 and think its better than any of the past games
and also only play a ridiculous amount of call of duty or halo who have been pampered by the aiming systems of these games

i wasn’t saying RE4 was a bad game it had great atmosphere, great gameplay and i enjoyed it very much ,but it strayed pretty far from the resident evil i grew up with and loved. to me it just wasn’t resident evil

look at fatal frame and silent hill 2 the controls weren’t that great the camera angles weren’t all that flexible but both are still regarded as some of the best games of its genre

this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt

Resident Evil has turned into an action game series. The only thing keeping it from being a game like gears is the somewhat limited controls it still retains. But it isnt Survival Horror anymore. Theres ammo everywhere, saving isnt a problem. Yeah maybe the controls and camera angles were shitty but they defined what a survival horror game was. They made it hard to Survive. Sure you could say thats a broken way to make things hard, and why not just make the enemies tougher? Well what then separates them from Action games?
Survival horror games need the perfect atmosphere, thats what truly makes a game perfect in my opinion. And the camera angles, limited mobility, limited ammo, creepy music/sound effects and most importantly SLOW pacing are the things that define the Survival horror atmosphere. And if you take away too many of those things like RE5 did, you get left with Gears of War light. But thats just my opinion and I know I’m gonna get flamed for it but whatever.

^seriously. It defeats the whole purpose in so many ways.

and what’s a RE game when your enemy, especially Mid Boss to Main Bosses didn’t give you “something” after you beat them?.

Where’s the “fun” in that, lol?

Play more Dead Rising, I guess.

But wasn’t Gears, and basically every 3rd person shooter 05+, ultimately compared to RE4?

Ink Ribbons! That made the game a survival more so than a horror. But ammo drops and money system made Leon a walking battle tank in RE4.

REmake, RE3 (ahhh zombies could come down the stairs?!) and RE4 alone for its Mercenaries mini game.

only because Gears ripped off the camera angle. and I was only using Gears as an example because its this gens defining action game. but doesnt that prove my point though? i mean if so many 3rd person shooters were being compared to RE4 doesn’t that mean that the RE series has more in common with regular action games now?

but seriously what really separates RE5 from Gears?

“Niggas”.

Somebody had to say it…

The gameplay system is what really seperates it. If you could move and shoot in RE5, the game would be dirt easy even on Professional mode.

I already said earlier that the only thing that keeps RE5 from being the same as Gears is the somewhat limited mobility…oh and a cover system. But thats hardly what I’d call a big difference.

Chris is already super macho now, punching boulders and shit…So hes right up there with Marcus.

My fav is RE0.

Everyone else hates this game for some reason.

Also, REmake is a close 2nd.

I’m having trouble disagreeing with that.

It took place in fuckin’ Africa. Wtf did you EXPECT to find there? They had to add white enemies who looked totally out of place cuz race-baiters and overly sensitive, ignorant idiots (you know: the NAACP) don’t seem to understand that Africa is damn near entirely black.

But we got like 3 in GoW3 now right?

And I applaud you taking one for the team. “Good work soldier.” /cap

you forgot to add N’Gai and Sessler to the ignorant idiots.

RE2 is my favorite. It’s actually the one that brought me in on the series. First one was okay, but to me there were simply too many giant normal creatures (Snake, Spider, Plant, Shark, Wasp). The Hunters while cool still felt to Jurassic Park-like to me. Granted the lab under the mansion was set up back in the 60s and they were probably still just experimenting with the T virus. The coolest creature off that game was the chimera, it looked truly alien and frightening compared to a giant snake.

Now bring on RE2 with it’s advanced lab underneath a whole city. 2 just brought more to the table in terms of great additions to the game which in my opinion have not been matched. Then we had the creatures introduced. They kept some giants for the nostalgic RE1 stuff (giant spiders, moths, Alligator). But on top of that we got the G-virus, which to me was a lot like the alien from The Thing in how it mutated. In fact I’m almost convinced Capcom looked to John Carpenter’s The Thing and Alien for their inspiration.

The chest bursting g baby which grows into a hideous creature within minutes wreaks of both those movie concepts. Then toss in the fact we’ve had so many RE games made based off of RE2. RE3 rode on RE2’s coat tails as far as I’m concerned it just pulled the old “this took place a few days before and during RE2” line. RE3 took Mr.X and gave him a steroid injection and repackaged him as Nemesis. Mr.X is the OG stalker. 3 was good because it kept the hideous bio weapons that were roaming the streets like the brain sucker.

To me, Capcom has strayed too far from the original RE formula. The over the shoulder camera angle is here to stay and that’s fine but RE5 reminded me more of Metal Gear than a RE game. Just the fight with Jill who throws off her cloak and does some weird back flip and hurtles feet first at Chris. When I saw that scene I was expecting Solid Snake to make an appearance.

They need to go back to what got them where they are now: RE2. A vast city completely infested with zombies and all other creatures from an underground lab. Keep the over the shoulder camera angle but make the game actually scary. RE4 was run, point your gun, and blast away. If there is an RE6 it needs to go back to the true survivor roots.

And make the game sandbox not linear. Don’t force me to go on a decided path. Worked for RE2 at the time but now, not so much. Allow players to do things out of order than what a linear path would dictate. Truly make the city so huge (like Raccoon City) that it takes literally days in our time to beat the game. Every building should be an option to explore.

Make it so it’s not a matter of “if” but “when” you die in the game. And you will die: it’s an entire city filled with monsters and zombies. RE games have become so easy as one poster said, you become a walking tank with money and ammo drops. Sadly, I’m afraid RE6 will further push the franchise closer to Metal Gear style concepts. When they introduce a 30 something year old Rebecca Chambers who is a half cyborg ninja assassin brainwashed to kill Carlos and Chris, we’ll have our answer. =/

^Um…

We were cool until you started talking about an open world.
