Hmm thanks for the video, that might help. I play with a friend over Live.
Just got back from 24 hours of RE5 playing. At least it felt like it.
Wow. I didn’t realize so many of you ended up not liking Sheva. She was fine to me. Yes she wastes ammo. Yes she uses herbs quickly. And she doesn’t like to use better weapons against tougher enemies. So what.
Once I figured out that Sheva has a preference for handguns and knowing that the first gun fully upgraded unlocks a new weapon I just got rid of my pistol and focused on hers. Next thing you know, Sheva ends up with 100 rounds of ammo to work with in one clip (You’re a fool if you didn’t catch this). Now she can focus on carrying herbs and back up weapons for me while still taking great shots at heads of our enemies.
And I always left her in cover mode (I tried attack mode 5 times so far and was like hell no each time) and she was always near me unless I ran far ahead of her which naturally makes sense. We died an even number of times on my first play through the game. Sometimes I did something stupid (crocodiles) or she would do something stupid (getting hit by some death dealing blow) but we worked well as a team. Like I really don’t get the hate. It’s like being mad at your force pod in R-Type or Alyx in HL2. Just learn how to use them and you shouldn’t have any trouble at all.
Anyway. So RE5 is awesome because it has been designed to be repeatedly played through however the fuck you want to and it is encouraged to be rushed down over and over again until you get the unholy times that only Japanese people are capable of getting in this game. Right now I’m trying to upgrade all my guns and I have the first magnum on infinite and the triple zoom rifle on infinite and the infinite RPG for obvious reasons. I have other stuff maxed out but I don’t use them. Infinite ammo is an addiction. I’m working on maxing out the Jail Breaker right now. I’m gonna get infinite for that and the triple shot pistol (once I get the points of course). I’ve only touched Merc mode once.
It’s been real hard to tear myself away from this game…
I haven’t picked up RE5 yet, how is mercenary mode this time around? is it still pretty much the same? I’ve never liked it, never got the hand cannon because it seemed (well, it actually is) really tedious. How much crap does it unlock? How’s the replay value of the game?
Edit: ^that post is a good start, thanks. Anyone else?
Ok so Professional Mode is a real bitch on Solo. Its like, on Veteran or below, Sheva is totally fine. Now? Its like 1 hit and you’re dead, and when I’m dying she’s SHOOTING PEOPLE. HEAL ME YOU STUPID AFRICAN BITCH! GAH!
I’m on 3-3 by the way. Any co-op help would be much appreciated. Got infinite ammo for my Magnum, Hydra, and Sniper rifle.
I’d still like to know what has happened to Ada and HUNK. And yeah, I also was totally upset with how they concluded the whole Wesker thing.
^I added you. I haven’t unlocked Pro mode yet. I’m jumping around, shaving off my times, collecting moneys, staring at Sheva, etc. If you wanna go some on co-op just let me know.
well…you really think it changed from before? simply put…not really but I loved it in RE4. I dislike Co-Op mercs just for having to rely on my partner if I am dying. actually based on what you said…just don’t buy it…
The game tied up enough of the story for me to be satisfied. I mean once Umbrella fell from grace prior to RE4, it was only a matter of time before they tied up the rest of the loose ends in terms of Wesker.
Hell we may even see Ada in the next game working for whomever she was working for outside of Wesker.
I meant I’ve never really like the mercenaries mode and I was wondering if they made any kind of real changes to it. RE4 had the ada missions (wii and ps2) which I liked, is there anything like that? Is mercenaries really such a big part of the single player experience that I shouldn’t get the game?
Mercs mode is basically the same except that now there is only a set number of enemies and you get a point bonus for left over time, rather than just surviving endless enemies until the time limit. There are also more sub-bosses on each map than in 4.
There is no side mission in 5, but you can unlock infinite ammo on every weapon in the game (except the grenade launcher it seems), which has been proving pretty fun IMO. Infinite M500 + infinite Hydra + infinite S75 + infinite rocket launcher has been a lot of fun for me.
No but Merc is what keeps pulling people back in after beating the game. I mean that’s once aspect that does.
And nice shout-out to the Ada missions. I miss that. But that was back before downloads hit consoles so something like that is totally possible by Capcom if they want to make more money. The single player has enough in it to keep your busy. Since the game is set-up in a check-point/auto-save format you are encouraged to keep pushing forward throughout the game. It’s almost arcadey in nature but not like Merc mode. On top of that change the game is segmented into chapters and sub-chapters. You don’t have to hit New Game+ to even go back to levels. You just pick what you want and do what you want. Missed a BSSA emblem? Go back and look forward. Need tons of cash? Go back to 3-2 (One of my favorites for money) and kill some maijin.
And the game is easy on normal. Really. Not to the point where you can knife through everything but the frequency of ammo drops and if you are dying someone will drop an herb, even red ones, so only instant death moves are a real issue. And Sheva is around to bring you back as well. I died once because she couldn’t make it to me in time. It’s even less survivaly* than RE4 which isn’t a bad thing considering the fact that this can be played online and is an attempt to reach an even larger audience new to RE.
I like that in the RE5 Files there is a ton of information. Like U-8, the Spidercrab boss, is a weapon that Irving sells but only there is a better version with armor over the weak spots. Or just the fact that there are BOWs outside of RE games running around the world. Capcom could easily make a series of download only episodes called BSSA Reports, which just tell the exploits of different agents around the globe and their dealings with bio-terrorism. They can be as long as the longest chapter in RE5 for like $10. It could come with a couple new weapons and characters that could be added to RE5.
And using something like that would be a great way to tie things into RE6. I’d like to see a new zombie type. We have our slow zombies and our aggressive but stupid infected. Now we need something that works in packs and has high intelligence. Kind of like the raptors in Jurassic Park.
T-Virus zombies: Driven by hunger. Always on the verge of dying.
P-Virus infected: Driven by rage. Blindly driven by rage and stupidity:
New Virus Monster: Driven by the thrill of killing and becoming the new master race of the planet. Like Wesker minus the talking and zero point teleportation and flash running. Like a combination of the Hunter and Witch in L4D with a pack mentality.
I’m surprised that Capcom didn’t come up with more ideas for BOWs unrelated to Uroboros and the P-Virus on a smaller scale. Especially considering the military application that they serve.
ah, thats for the info guys.
I think my favorite part about the Ada stuff, aside from the little insight into the story it gave, was the way the items and enemies were mixed up a bit. It’s just not the same after you’ve memorized where every item and enemy is.
I’m thinking RE should take a cue from left 4 dead and come up with some kind of “director” that will change things up on subsequent playthroughs or based on current performance, would help to make it scarier too, since you won’t know when a chainsaw wielding baddie will come ripping after you…or if you are getting by too easily start throwing harder enemies/less ammo at you, or do the opposite if you keep getting murdered.
SPOILER
how do you beat wesker, final forme?
Shoot the living shit out of him
doesn’t work
Spoiler…
After he does his tornado attack, run up to him. I believe a qte should pop up. If not, shoot him and try again. He’s really easy once you figure out the trick to beating him.
This is what I did
As he raises his arm and does that spinning drill thing run behind him and shoot the orange circle on his back. Proceed to back up because he does his tornado move and if you get caught it’s instant death. Once he’s done with his attack another orange circle will appear on his chest. Shoot the shit out of that. Magnums and Grenade Launchers work great
Wesker
Spoiler
Once you get both Chris and Sheva to the central circular platform, they need to split up. Once one character gets a clear shot at his back, shoot the orange pustule in the center. Then back away because he will do a huge AOE attack. Once that is over, have Chris go behind him and perform the “Restrain” interaction prompt that appears. Then Sheva will have to do a knifing QTE. Then a video sequence plays and you get to rocket launcher the shit out of him.
You need to have enough health to survive the restraining sequence or you will die.
Oh you are right, I totally forgot about how pissed I was when I found out Hunk or Ada wasn’t in it.
