I know I do.
Seriously, after playing Code: Veronica X and then going to part 5, I notice how much trash part 5 was.
And after completing it, wow, what a lame ending vs what Veronica X offered.
RE 5 didn’t even have any action movie scenes other than showing that your being ambused by enemies, ONCE AGAIN!! Holy shit!
Damn…
Sorry to hate but I didn’t like RE 5 at all (other than the co-op, but then again what co-op game isn’t fun).
I LOVE the cutscenes and I really love the Figure collection you can purchase with points…holy shit…have you guys looked at the detail on the figurines???
Purchase the Motorcycle Majani, Licker, and Irving Transformed…they are all mind blowing when you zoom in close and look at every little vein, muscle, and tendon. (This will cost you 1500pts total for the three, easily obtained from doing any level with an S rank).
They are rendered right out of the game and look amazing, its a perfect way to slow down and appreciate the amazing character and enemy design, since you can’t really appreciate it fully while trying to stay alive.
I’m going back through it now on Veteran, I have unlimited ammo for the S&W 500 Magnum, Ithaca shotty, Beretta, and a few others…and even with this massive firepower, a lot of enemies can still kill you with the quickness.
The more I play it, the more I love it.
This is probably the first RE title where I actually WANT to go through and unlock EVERYTHING, and I haven’t even played Mercenaries yet.
Chris’ zebra pimp suit is the shit, BTW. Maybe not as cool as Leon’s gangster suit in RE4, but still awesome.
Ok, so I finished my runthrough on Veteran and almost finished unlocking everything on Mercanaries. I’ll probably need a partner to go through Professional mode with me, and I’ll probably start tomorrow night. Anyone down for some games?
:wtf: Code Veronica X’s ending isn’t more than like 7 minutes.
Also note that I said action GAME, not action movie. I don’t want action SCENES, I want action GAMEPLAY, and that is what RE5 had. My entire point in that earlier post was that this is a game, not a movie. Why would you want to sit there and watch an hour-and-a-half movie at the end of your game? Or have lots of mini-movies during your game? Especially since this is co-op-centered, it’s best to keep the gameplay going.
Exactly why I hate Metal Gear Solid series, and don’t want to see people trying to turn RE into MGS. Also note, however, that MGS’ story mode is single player, not co-op.
I only played offline co-op so far, but inventory acts like normal(have to swap with your partner). Money is shared between the two of you so it doesn’t matter who picks it up, but you two might have to come to an agreement on modding weapons.
The more I play RE5 the more I like it,I really had low expectations after the demo but have gone through it twice(normal+vet) and unlocked all the mercs characters.
I’ve just started professional and teaming up with random people for a chapter here and there is a pain,so if anyone’s after a co-op partner to do pro I’m definately up for it.
Yeah i think it makes the game supremely fun playing with someone you know. I think the funniest but stressful part for me was Chapter 5-3 where you gotta push the canister while you have a shit ton of lickers on your ass. The Grenade Launcher with Explosion rounds plus my friend shooting them with his machine gun equals fun times.
I was stated how Code X had an ‘actual ending’ vs what RE 5 had to offer.
And if your idea of “action gameplay” is watching an action scene and the game is telling you “Press X to not die”, then yeah, RE 5 has lots of those (and how annoying they are, sometimes I just want to watch and enjoy the scene, damnitt).
Acid rounds work better on the lickers, they are weak against acid (no skin).
If you guys want to farm gold, ammo, and points, I found the optimal way to do it:
Configure your inventory to battle lickers.
Play Chapter Select and start at the Underground Garden.
Getting from the beginning of that stage to the Elevator gets you $13,400 minimum if you kill all the lickers (4xlionheart a 2500 each, $3K from the safe, $400 from selling the AK74 = $13,400). Stop and repeat here if all you want is in game $$$.
Once you enter the elevator, you will stop just before the big spider fight. At this point, you can grab the free ammo there, quit, save status, continue, grab the ammo again…rinse and repeat. A few minutes of this and you can easily max out on MG, shotgun, and handgun ammo. Stop and repeat here if all you want is ammo.
Beat the spider boss. Once you get good at this level, you can beat it in about 15-20 minutes with no deaths and a 60% or higher accuracy and get the S rank. That gets you 1500 points to purchase Bonus Materials with from the main menu. This is about the easiest way to rack up these points if you are trying to get all the figurines or unlock unlimited ammo for weapons. Repeat this part if all you want is points.
This is how I am able to play through Veteran with a S&W 500 magnum with infinite ammo, that deals out 5000 damage per shot.
Anybody got any favorite weapons yet (non-unlockables)?
I’m really digging the L.Hawk Magnum. It’s just a little bit short on power compared to the S&W M29, but the firing rate/reload rate more then makes up for it IMO.
Also liking H&K PSG for the rifles. Really cheap to upgrade and it’s semi-automatic and it’s got better zoom (although zoom isn’t too important IMO).
Not really sure about the handguns/machineguns/shotguns as I’ve only stuck to the first ones I got. Have to do some more experimenting.
Beretta M93R - 400 damage, fast reload…the best all around weapon in the game. Can dead a licker in 3-4 headshots.
Ithaca: The best all around shotty when fully upgraded, imho. The Jailbreaker is a close second.
S&W 500 mag: This magnum does 5000 damage when fully upgraded. That pretty much ends the discussion. Yes, L Hawk mag has a much higher rate of fire, but the magnum is for putting something DOWN…and nothing in the game can match the 5000 damage of the 500 (except the rocket launcher, but I digress).
H&K mp5: I prefer this over other machine guns for the insane capacity. It holds 120 rounds and does 120 damage when upgraded PLUS it has pierce.
Rifles: I am truly torn on this. The PSG is the best rifle to use, with its fast fire rate and truly amazing scope…but the first rifle you get in the game (forget the name) is SO freaking powerful when fully upgraded. I let Sheva carry a rifle at all times, and since she is dumb and doesn’t fire as often as she should, I want every shot to really count. For this reason I keep the original rifle with her and I carry the PSG for those times when I need to make a long range shot that Sheva can’t/won’t make.
How is the M37 better than the Hydra? The Hydra mows everything down. It’s like a short range AOE magnum. The only real downside to the Hydra is the freakishly slow reload, but if you are using it right you shouldn’t ever have to reload mid-firefight anyway.
Personally I also dislike the M93R for being too wasteful of ammo. Same reason I don’t use machine guns at all. Sometimes 3 shots aren’t needed, but it’s still gonna fire them anyway.
My favorite guns are the M92F for handgun), the Hydra for shotgun, the PSG-1 and the S75 are both great rifles, and the M500 for magnum. I like the M92F primarily for the extra headpops, since I mostly use the handguns just to fish for melee kills so I’m usually shooting the head anyway.
I really don’t see how Code: Veronica’s ending is any better than 5’s. They both left the story pretty wrapped-up so-to-speak.
And yes I hate all those QTEs. I will totally agree with that. But I would hate just sitting there watching them almost as much.
All around, I really don’t even think RE5 is more than a decent game. But it’s a hell of a lot more fun than turning RE into MGS would be.
That is what keeps me from using it as my primary shotgun.
The slow reload + low capacity = I find myself switching to another weapon instead of putting up with the reload time.
The way I play RE games, the shotgun is used to get enemies out of my face…so if I’m swamped with a sea of lickers all around me (such as in the Underground Garden) I do NOT want to have to reload while trying to clear them out…especially in a smallish room where I cannot run away and use distance weapons.
For that reason, I stick with the Ithaca…since its capacity is great, I am never in a position where I am out of ammo but still have enemies in my face.
I may complete my upgrade of the Hydra (I think its almost fully maxed out now) and give it more time, but so far the Ithaca is what I prefer.
My usual setup:
Chris - M93R, 500mag, Ithaca, PSG.
Sheva - Longbow, healing, ammo storage. S75, healing, ammo storage. I prefer the longbow for most levels, but some levels like the Marsh, she needs the extra range provided by the S75 or PSG.
