Resident Evil 5 is now Capcom's best-selling game of all time

Yea this was pretty much how I felt while playing Leon’s chapter in RE6. They could’ve done amazing things. :bluu: Not to say that RE6 doesn’t have its moments.

But it would be astounding if they could somehow reinvent the third-person gameplay again. Now that would be something.

I had 5 for about a yr and a half and didn’t play it. Just started playing it and I’m enjoying it for the most part.

edit: wrong thread lol.

For a character as smart and badass as wesker his Death wasnt very fitting

That’s because one of the people killing him hadn’t met him until like 2 hours ago, while the other person with long history with him was just chilling in the chopper and NOT firing the rocket in Sheva’s place.

This thread made me pop in my Gold Edition.

Game is still fun as shit. Lol. Any Wesker criticisms are still invalid.

my favorite game remains RE2, even though there’s no Wesker in it.
I think I might play the DC complete edition.

RE1 was good too. A pity that the real actors in the FMV intro remain cooler than all their subsequent CGI incarnations.

I played them on Windows PC in late 90s. the uncensored versions.
game was scarier because the monitor distance and speakers were closer

I skipped RE3 but was impressed with RE4. But except the first scene in the village it wasnt scary at all.
RE games were scary due to the slow pace and surprise element and also due to the claustrophobic atmosphere. you were limited in how you could move, also helped by the fixed camera angle and clunky controls. it also helped that the genre was relatively fresh, having also titles previously like Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill, Clock Tower and Ecstatica which were also scary in their own way.

But RE4 gives you the freedom of space and movement. this makes the horror element subdue. in RE5 even more. Hence why I can play the older games just fine, but would struggle in replaying RE4 and 5 for their story again. they wear off much quicker.

It is also ironic, how a similar series “The House of the Dead”, has turned into.
Similar to RE, a mansion in the first game, a city in the second game. first two games were amazing. #3 is a little inferior, #4 tries to capture the essence of the original, while the latest installment feels more like Left for Dead, than HOTD.

Revelations was surprisingly legit. I thought the whole saturday morning episode thing Capcom went with for the game was kinda cheesy as fuck, but then the game actually throws you legit threats while sticking to the survivor horror genre instead of the now typical “Go rambo and kill everything that happens to be zombies” genre. I wasn’t scared of the shit visually but damn those enemies were hella threatening. I actually had to worry about my ammo for potential hidden sub bosses lurking around instead of thinking “Oh i’d probably breeze through the next couple thousand mobs + boss coming down the hallway with this handgun no prob”.

Capcom did that game pretty alright, it’s a good mix of some of the good of RE4 and the older games. Definitely worth trying at the least and I’d put it somewhere a bit behind or next to RE5.

Well given his history I agree. They went the drunk with power route, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Dat boulder though…

I personally think that Capcom re-adjusting the game to add black characters due to all the racial black lash screwed the game over in some way (changing the story and cutscene)

They didn’t add black people. They reduced the amount and added white infected in their place so that people wouldn’t continue to pull the race card like they had been doing.

I wonder how many closet RE 6 fans will pop up once RE 7 comes out and disappoints everyone… (never played 6 before, might consider buying it soon since it’s dirt cheap nowadays)

Personally, I also enjoyed RE 5. I didn’t think it quite lived up to RE 4’s legacy, but that doesn’t mean I believe it’s a BAD game. I just believe it depends a bit TOO much on co-op. They should have left co-op as an option, not mandatory as playing alongside the dumb AI can be pretty frustrating at times. I didn’t mind the “new” direction the series was going after at all, I just thought the series was testing new grounds, but people like to call foul on “OMG LOOK AT DEAD SPACE SCARY GAMES ARE POSSIBLEEEEEEE!” LOL STFU.

I feel people bitch a bit TOO much on Wesker’s death at the end. Seems to me like they were expecting some epic battle against God Wesker ala Final Sephiroth version with angel wings or some shit like that. I just feel grateful that Wesker didn’t end up looking like something you get out of a barf bag by the end (Birkin in RE 2, Nemesis in RE 3, Saddler in RE 4…you catch my drift).

I also kinda feel that VS play needed some work, as Sonicbid said, too many sensitive assholes online who ragequit once the lead gets too much to bear. Still though, only trophy I boosted on VS was the 30 wins in Survivors one (because fuck those guys who abuse the Flame Grenade + Rocket Launcher combo).

RE6 wasn’t all too bad, as a game. my issue was that it just was the furthest departure from RE.

I’d like it if they made a new tps out of what they had in Re 6 like if they revamped lost planet with that or something.

Versus mode was insanely stupid.

Mercs in re6 was Really fun, but the problem is it had no characters only costume swaps, my same issue with Re5. but at least a good portion of those costume swaps were playable.

Wesker dying like he did was pretty weak. they chose the Broly route to end that man.

I still can’t believe people pulled the race card on RE5. There isn’t anything racist about fighting black people in AFRICA. If that’s such a problem, those kinds of people really ought to go to Africa and tell all the crazy dictators and warmongers to stop being so racist against their own people. :coffee:

Also, no one seemed to have a problem with Leon mowing down hundreds of Spaniards. :coffee:

I’m surprised PETA didn’t go bananas at having zombie dogs in every RE installment

Resident Evil 5 only sold so much because it was the first RE game to come out for the HD era. With the success and acclaim RE4 received, people were clamoring for another RE game that would be just as amazing. Even with banking on the success of its predecessor, years later, many RE fans will still tell you RE4 is better. Of course, Capcom didn’t actually think about this and simply looked at sales numbers. “Hmmm, Resident Evil 5 sold so much, let’s keep making the series an action ‘survival horror’ shoot-em-up!” Operation Raccoon City was made, which is quite possibly the biggest atrocity to ever grace the RE franchise, followed by the just-as-underwhelming RE6 (strangely, Revelations wasn’t that bad). That being said, RE5 is one of the last few good games Capcom has come out with this generation, so I suppose it does deserve some credit, despite the nasty direction it took the series in.

RE4 was an action ‘Survival horro’ Shoot em up though…

Bring back dino crisis.

I want need more ladies in spandex shooting raptors in space.

Europeans are the ultimate white bred. Of course no one will object.

Cause they’re zombie dogs.
Duh!

  • Not sure PETA would be asinine enough to defend the rights of zombiefied dogs.
