If its a joke, what do you say to someone when they say to you, “I’ll pray for you”/ other faith based consolations?
I mean would you straight up bash them in your thoughts or face to face?
Or would you say “Umm…Thanks?” or even ignore it when it was something they really believed?
I mean in a practical sense of taking away judgement and all the other stuff tied with religion what do you honestly say back to someone or even a stranger who honestly cares for your well being?
You could just say I’m being naive but meh. I rather be that then just walk around hating and thinking I’m more better just cause my views are seen as a more “logical” choice.
Oh and I’m not some Christan. I like learning about it and the history of it, but I hate organized aspects.
If anything, I’m more towards Deism.
Sometimes, when I see the things that go on in this world like: the Isis decapitating young 5 year olds and other innocent people, the random known murders through out history, poor dogs/cats being tortured and killed for free in China, 9/11, The Southern Baptist church and other cults, etc… i do end up hoping that the christian god is real just because of the thought of hell being real. It kinda sucks to think that there are possibilities that these people got away with it and the justice they got didn’t amount to the pain/suffering they gave their victims. I think in some way, that the thought for actual justice can keep the families of victims feel allot better which is a reason why people shouldn’t just bash other peoples beliefs.
No matter which “book” you read, he isn’t stronger than god.
in Christianity, Jesus is just your advisor, and he gets you into heaven if you try. Doesn’t mean God can’t him. In other canons, they are one in the same.
In Islam, iirc, he’s just a prohpet, and for jews, he was a derranged jew that deserved to be sacrificed.
htat may be true, but Thor is battle born, battle raised, battle everything. He is the better warrior fighter, if Apollo can’t get him from a distance that’s it, and Thor controls lighting, no way apollo could block that unless he has the Gojlden Fleece
OP I’m mildly interested, but maybe you would want to separate the topics? Make a mythology thread if there isn’t one already, because I don’t think mythology will mesh well with religion, there isn’t as much effort trying to interpret and understand mythology. Mythology is more like passive lore, it doesn’t ask that you take part in it.
For the religion topic, I think you would attract better posts if it were about theology instead, most likely Christian theology but also open to others. For example, Catholic theology has a lot of stuff that people just accept as arbitrary rules, but are actually just based on a few central ideas. The problem is a lot of Christians are being exposed to the arbitrary rules instead of the fundamentals, so it’s easy to have misconceptions about what the belief actually “believes” in, sometimes even boiling their beliefs down to absurd conclusions. An informative thread focusing on those fundamental ideas might be more constructive.
The joke went over your head. Most people are aware of this.
Why so serious? Considering many people think of them as one and the same, do you not see the funny?
Anyway, for Apollo vs Thor, don’t forget how OP the Greek Gods are in comparison to the Norse ones. As awesome as the Norse mythology is, the Greek pantheon is on another level. Plus, Apollo has the fucking sun that he pulls with a chariot. If Thor gets close, he could just run him over with it. Thor may have lightning and thunder and a powerful hammer, but long ranged OP bow and a huge ball of fire to roast the planet with would probably be a consideration in this fight. But in hand to hand combat, with Apollo vs Thor and no weapons? Thor would probably have the upper hand, but from what I recall of the Norse gods, they’re more like OP mortals, probably akin to the demi-gods in Greek mythology. Powerful yes, but not on the same level as the gods. Thor would probably beat him, but it’s possible Apollo would simply have his godly immortality? (the greek gods were never mortal) to back him up.
If the thread was renamed theology and mythology that would be much better. Then we could all not worry about the stupid arguments that religion brings up, as some of the ilk here has already done.
I have lol. I dont like when its put how you put it which was pretty much Christianity without rules so to say.
You said “I believe God put us here”
what god? I believe a higher power that we will never know about or understand…rather its a god, intelligent life form, etc. Deism shouldnt be used an easy cop out for Christianity
