Against characters that don’t get hit by the corner tackle, fireball combos and are difficult to land multiple tackles on, I usually do this combo:
cr.FP, MK tackle, MP headbutt. The trick is in the charge partitioning. You need to start charging down about midway through the cr.FP, do the MK tackle, charge down again, and as soon as you recover, MP headbutt. I usually do this to yun and yang but I think it applies to other characters as well. Occasionally I go for 2 tackles on yun/yang but that shit is insanely difficult.
Does this work in the arcade version? I’ve confirmed it to work on PS2/XBox and Dreamcast (well, the setup anyway, not the unblockable part), but when I tried afew times vs a friend on the arcade version, I couldn’t get him to bounce off the reflector. Confirmations anyone?
RagingStorm101 - I have videos of stupid amounts of Q tackles. I believe they’re legit but frankly, they’re damn hard. I can’t find where I got them but I can send em to you over MSN (pm me) or IRC (#srklive).
Hey Ereet, you have same name on MSN/AIM? You mind if I can get those vids as well?
Also, I was wondering if anyone had any of the RX vs KO vids. Right now my biggest weakness match is freakin Yun/Yang. Been trying to work out a good strategy agaisnt them. FFA in so cali currently has an army of Yun’s trying to terrorize. Its all your fault PYRO! =P
One last question, when doing normal corner aegis unblockable…which do people normally use ( tackle to push them back, walk back and Tackle or Dash back and tackle?) Also, which version of the tackle are you using?
Great thread reading threw it all at work I’m gona start using urien for fun even though i suck at 3s, all this info is great What are uriens bad match ups?
Yun can be tough. (as with everyone else)
Chun can be tough. (same)
I don’t find Ken SO bad.
Yang is tough if he really knows what he’s doing.
Alex if you keep GUESSING wrong.
Makoto, same thing.
You have to know the right corner unblockable. Everybody gets up at different speeds. You can only do walk back rh tackle (or dash back, whatever) on shotos, Chun, Makoto, and Urien (mk knee drop for at least the shotos if you want to do this unblockable). For the others, you have to do a knee drop whiff (I use rh, never really tried mk) or empty jump forward, dash knee drop variation (see vids in the first post). Everybody is in a different catagory, but it’s not like everyone is completely different from another character. Just wanted to remind everyone.
There’s no real “standard” corner unblockable, but basically, the one you’re talking about, you can do either walk back or dash back. RH tackle always.
If anything’s “standard”, it should be the empty jump forward one. That works on literally everyone, and in my opinion, is easier than the other 2 corner unblockables. You just have to learn the different timings.
I like the empty jump setups also. On some characters its best to do the last tackle xx aegis when their kinda low to the ground because if you do it when their high they’ll fly right over uriens head after they bounce off the aegis.
I think I’ve experienced that on chun li, alex and dudley.
Hey, I realized there isn’t really any specific combos for Oro. What does he fall under…the dash shoulder unblock, or headbutt? There are no combos shown on him in any of RX’s videos from his site. Kind of weird.
why’d you want to do a mid-screen? most competent opponents can easily parry out of it, and it yields crappy damage compared to corner unblockables. i’d rather save the meter and wait for the corner unblockable.
I asked for the combo, not your advice on strategy. It’s good to know all options and not to limit yourself OR be repetitive. So instead of tryin to diss on my style how bout answering my question?
As i don’t have the game for the arcade yet with the unblockables and i don’t have a ps2 here to try it out on i am not 100% sure since i don’t get to play oro that much either. But, the midscreener against oro is the dash>tackle under, not the mp headbutt. He had kind of the same properties as the brothers, if not harder. Meaning that you could do the samestuff on him too as you’d do on the brothers iirc. But the dash > tackle under is the way to go.
And about the whole “most competent opponents can easily parry out of it” thing… It doesn’t matter where they do it. If he can parry it midscreen, he can do it corner-style to. Brother plz, i get red-parried out my unblockables. Does that mean = quit doing them? No. Unblockables exist because of a reason.
i still do corner, but rarely do midscreens, unless it’s gonna seal the match. if you see an opening for it, fine, whatever, but i think most people would rather wait (cuz you know urien’s eventually going to get them near the corner), and take their chances on a corner unblockable. if they mis-parry, they DIE. mis-parry midscreen… not so much.
edit: also, everyone doesn’t have to get so touchy, jeez. i just asked a simple question as to why you’d want to work on a tactic (midscreen), when there is a much better tactic (corner) that should be worked on first. i’m not saying you should NEVER use it, but seriously, why risk it at midscreen, and if you succeed, you get so-so damage, when you can take an equal risk, but if you succeed, you’re almost guaranteed victory? i didn’t me to rub anyone the wrong way.
You get PUNISHED if they parry. At least with corner unblockable, if they parry, you get a free mixup afterwards. (This is the main reason why I don’t do as many midscreeners as I used to anymore)
but that doesn’t mean you should stop using midscreeners altogether. Just put good judgement in it.
With Oro, you can’t do anything corner OR midscreen. Just tackle ex tackle tackle whatever in the corner or after anti-air fireball. As for midscreen unblockables, the only one that works is the brothers’ one (cr. fierce, tackle, fierce aegis, dash back, whiff cr. fierce, rh knee drop, mp headbutt over, and low short to guard break).
Right on Graph, thanks for the info…thats all I wanted to know. The strategy is common sense, and always a jugement call depending on the situation of the match. Trust me, I know…i’ve been in enough tournament situations to make the call (and have beatin practically every Elite 3s player out there in a tournament situation to know). I wanted to know the combo just to add to the knowledge library for myself. I am making a list of what works on who and so fourth. That is my reasoning for asking.
If I wanted the strategy aspect of it, I would of asked…but I didnt. People just always assume people dont know anything and proceed to explain every aspect like you are completely clueless. No respect on these forums, I swear. Even when most folks give an answer, they have to explain it in such a cocky way and make it seem like you are retarded for even asking.
anyway, next time I ask a question…ill give the full explanation on why I need it. So I can stop the confusion and hopefully get a decent answer without getting bashed on.
Bah that vid! All it shows is Ken/Ryu OWNING Urien after parrying a corner unblockable. It hurt and brought tears to my eyes when i saw it =( sniff 4 uppercuts in the corner is garbage LOL.
Although that one on Alex is retardedly easy to pull off and just comedy. I think if i ever got that on an Alex in tourney id prob fuck it up from laughing heheh.
