A few pages back, Emphy had some good advice on dealing with Akuma. I started paying close attention to the sounds in that matchup. Very unfortunate when you can’t hear the game, though. Will have to work on a visual que for dealing with his tatsumaki pressure. Maybe I will pay attention to the block sparks (sprites) from now on.
On a semi-related note: Why does Urien sound like a volley ball when he is blocking?
I just watched the new RX combo vid, so is the tackle back into reflector —> kneedrop unblockable useless now on shotos since they can parry the kneedrop, move forward to get out of the aegis?? How about the kneedrop*2 unblockable?
No it’s not useless. Although every scrub ken will be attempting to parry this in the same way like the video. Just alter your timing a little or don’t do the kneedrop and create a basic mid/low mix up after pushing them back into the aegis. Still a million things Urien can do in that situation. Urien is a free form character, improvise!!!
I dont know if this is a new combo or not I would like some feedback. I was just fucking around in practice mode on the ps2 version and I hit in a corner on chun li. mp fireball, rh tackle, rh tackle, rh tackle, mk tackle, standing hp.
I had previously thought that urien could only unload a bunch of rh tackles on q. After hitting it on chun li I tried to hit it on dudley and makoto but I could only manage two.
Nobody should ever talk without even testing anything…
The reason Ryu and Ken got out of the Aegis in the video was because of two things combined:
No one seems to notice the combo before the Aegis hits. It’s a combo that maxes out the “juggle numbers” (cr. fierce, tackle, ex tackle, tackle). In Kyushu Taikai 2004, RX does anti-air fireball then the 5 tackles on Ruu’s Ryu. Ruu then does the same thing and forward parries to get out of it.
The significance of this is that it allows Urien to push them towards the Aegis with RH tackle BEFORE Ken/Ryu even lands. If it were something else with less hits, you would make the RH tackle hit instead of whiff.
What this means is that it allows Urien to do the knee drop earlier, making it hit first instead of the Aegis.
Shoto parries are different than other parries because their parry moves them back. In this case, it moves them back out of the Aegis. Edit: (This is just a theory and might not be right, because Ken/Ryu have their back facing the AEGIS, so “moving backward” might mean moving towards Aegis. In that case, it’s probably just #1 alone and how Ryu/Ken are some of the only people you can “whiff RH tackle” corner unblockable on)
Thanks to my student for helping me out on this :karate:
which characters can you do…the double tackle after a crouch fierce in the corner?
also which characters can you do this to…cr. fierce, lk/mk tackle, sphere, etc…?
this is all explained a few pages back, but usually LP sphere hits best. against chun and makoto, if your first tackle was early enough, you can hit them with MP sphere, then get two more tackles on them, instead of one.
but seriously, just scroll back a few pages, all of your questions are answered in greater detail.
ive read through the pages…but all they said was do this/that…i’ve seen the tackle UNDER midscreen aegis setup, but icant get it to work…do i have to see that the opponent is hit with an aegis before tackling or after i dash ill just do rh. tackle?
also, does urien have a nice kara-throw or kara-UOH?
This place has been quiet for awhile. Everyone finally perfect their urien tricks, charge partitions and combo’s? We all masters now? Lol
I got some brief games in at FFA (so cali) this past halloween weekend. After like 3 straight weeks of nothing but training mode and parrying training, i got to test my new style agaisnt life opponents!!
Did well, my charge partition and ability to parry while attempting it has improved. Its insane how much of a difference your matches and play style can be when you are actually doing the Proper corner/unblockable/combo set ups for characters instead of just doing 1 set up for everyone. I use to be that guy, but not anymore. WATCH OUT Cole’s on a Urien Prowl!!! =D
The tackle under midscreen unblockable is very rough. Even if you do it off of sound, it is just going to take practice. To get the one on the new vid, right as the shoulder is hitting (short tackle) do QCF right before the hit, then do HCB+FP and you Urien will turn around and activate Aegis. The rest is very easy to pull off. I’ve done it a few times in arcade already, its comedy.
You don’t even need to do that, as aegis can be cancelled off tackles with a single fireball motion. It is pretty comical though, I’ve found the jump and jab timing odd enough that I don’t like it.
ex Headbutt -> mk tackle xx qcf fp -> walk towards them and jump jab, and then dash under.
I was experimenting with tackles and what not that is required to get alex to fly backwards like that, I found the following works slightly easier, as you don’t need to confirm the headbutt.
c. fp -> ex headbutt -> lk tackle xx fp aegis -> keep the joystick in the forward position after the fireball for charging -> rk tackle.
If all is done correctly, you zip under Alex right as he’s landing. With you on the opposite side of reflector, and Alex in the middle, do the standard guard break & elbow. It’s not repeatable as the ex headbutt eats meter but still could be handy for those who’re not 100% with the Alex setup discussed above. Anyone have advice on to charge timing for that one? c. fp -> mk tackle -> dash towards -> strong -> rk tackle. It’s still an oddball to me, as I charge during the dash/strong. Should I treat it as a slightly shorter version of throw -> mp reflector -> dash -> headbutt? :S I can pull it off I just can’t get it 100% and when I think I figured the “exact” timing I always mess up the next attempt. Not looking for “when” to charge, more just for what other setups it’s comparable to.
