Ranked

I think its funny how Sirlin is #1 but his ratio sucks compared to others on the list.

SNEAKY SNEAKY SIRLIN!

thats why you never host. hosting sucks since any retard that doesnt understand what a ping number means, will jump in the first room they see, without hesitation. its so wack that you cant see pings in the ranked lobby so you can decline high pingers. =(

always custom match for me. rarely a laggy match since i get to choose

How do you invite people?

I can’t seem to figure it out.

omg read my post.

OMG, read MY post.

right now, what im also hating, is the fact that, even if the player you face is really low ranked, you dont seem to get a point. i played 6 different people back to back, won em all, got 2 points for all of it. i understand that they are low ranked and all. but the minimum point should be 1 whole point. not like .3 points(if its even doing a partial point, or just not adding points at all)

I think quick match looks at rankings first, and tries to give you players close to it. That’s what I use exclusively (had very few problems).

My win rate is about 65% and I’m at around #40 or so usually.

I really want that data website to be up. I want to see my tendencies against certain chars.

meh, the twice quick match has actually found opponents for me, they were still noobs and the connections sucked. If that’s the solution that blows.

Maybe they were the only opponents avaliable? During weird-ass times I’ll get noobs, but anytime I play with people on, and get ranked, I get a competent opponent.

argh i won 6 games and i got like 2 points… -_- ;p

but the thing i really dislike is that you lost a HUGE amount of points when u lose to a scrubbie. i was just fighting against a scrub but i had to reconnect my controller but i couldnt (out of battery lol) so i lost the fight… damn im now #114 while i was in the #90’s.

oh well ;p

The way Microsoft’s TrueSkill ranking system works, behind the scenes you actually have two numbers that represent your skill: your “average skill” and the uncertainty on that skill. The ranking you see is the “conservative skill estimate” which is basically your average skill minus your uncertainty.

When big upsets happen to you (you win against a much higher-ranked guy or you lose to a much lower-ranked guy), your uncertainty goes up. So if you’re ranked low and you beat the #1, your average skill shoots through the roof but your uncertainty does too, so at first your ranking doesn’t change that much. But as you play more “normal” matches, if you’re able to maintain your skill level, your uncertainty will go back down and your ranking will catch up soon. Basically, when in doubt, the system favors reliable players over unreliable ones.

That means that beating the #1 three times is more than three times better than beating the #1 once, because it shows not only that you can beat him (boosts your average skill), it also shows that you can reliably beat him (reduces your uncertainty).

That also means that if you’re consistently #1 yourself and suddenly you lose to a newbie in a freak upset, yeah your ranking will dive temporarily, but it won’t be hard to climb back up because a good part of your dive will be caused by the added uncertainty from the freak upset, and uncertainty is easy to cancel over time.

I was ranked #2 under the ‘SomeXboxgamer’ tag for my first day and a half. It is my little brother’s account. However, this dropping BS fucked me up. I was 3 points away from #1. Had some great matches with Sirlin, CB HD, xrolento (J Nelson) and some other top players.

I have been playing a shit load of Blanka. I am still not used to the new Sim motions.

I agree with brian on the one… It is more of a mental endurance test to look for good players in ranked. After a hours of looking for matches against good players, not connecting because the match with good ping was picked by another and then having to reenter the room, I started not to give a F about it. TO MUCH WORK for good quality matches and players.

I love casual playrooms. The best matches are happening there. Find yourself some good players and get some sets. You’ll see you game play go up faster that way. You get to watch some great matches, talk with other players, and get a constant flow of game-play.

Had a bad glitch on ranked today. I had won the match, no disconnects or anything out the ordinary. I checked the leaderboards and saw that I had been given the loss! Dropped about 60 spots and 100+rank points. Pretty lame! Like a lot of you, I will be done with rank once I get my achievements.

i hear ya fatboy. as much as i thought i would be done with ranked after getting 100 win acheivement. i still find myself going back there. reason being, its frustrating when you cant get into certain rooms with other players in player matches. gets fucking frustrating as hell. so i get pissed and just do ranked custom searches so i can get my fix. =/

Why wasn’t this fixed again?

This is something that was known about since before the game was even started.

I kinda like ranked.
If not only for the fact that most rooms are 6 people. I can wait a match but i’ll be damned if i wait 4 of them to finish before i get my turn, i’m not in an arcade talking to people, i’m at home getting bored to shit.

I’m not really good at ST but i’m starting to get matched against decent people, at first i was all noobs tho. I’m playing on the 360 and mostly get lagless matches. The laggy ones are not that bad, ie: i see enough things to develop a strategy and beat the person if he’s a real noob. Only a few matches were downright unplayable. And even if i loose due to lag who gives a shit, i don’t even check my stats.

Bottom line is, you shouldn’t care about ranking in videogames ever, because they’re always fucked up. I repeat, you shouldn’t care, at all, don’t bother and just let it go. Once you do that trueskill becomes a decent system for maching you up against people close to your level. For that purpose it’s good, even tho i’m a little disappointed by the lack of options considering how much sirlin hyped this shit, but for actually ranking the best players? Forget it, but that’s a surprise to nobody if you ever played something online with ranking. Even 2DF ranking system is shit.

Ok, it seems that the answer was in fact Quick match.

I guess I was just unlucky the first couple times with who I got matched with, but now quickmatch is setting me up with good players.

The only problem of course is that it still fails to find anything most of the time.

You’re SomeXboxgamer? I think I played against you once or twice and didn’t even know it was you. I can never follow all you guys and your different tags on this, ggpo, etc. I’ll get friend invites from bizarre names and I’m like “WTF? Who’s this?” only to find out later that it’s someone I know from on here. You guys should put your SRK nick in your profile comment or something.

Anyway, yeah, I’ve had more luck finding good players with “Quick Match”. My only real problem with it is that, while it does seem to find players of similar skill, it doesn’t take into account ping. Luckily, I’ve only had a couple of super laggy matches with it though.

i’m ranked like in the top 250 i think… i played a ton of matches, like over 350

oh i had ONE person DC from me right when he lost, so its not too bad but its too bad people are cheating

however the main thing i like about ranked is to keep my win loss record so i have some idea of how i’m doing over the long run

Yeah I agree, I am looking at ranked overall as a way to record how much I am winning:losing, not as much as an overall ranking though. I just want to make my wins look much huger than my losses.

Right now I’m 148-60, Trying to get to 200 without 10 more losses…
