Ranked

me too. i’m afraid it’s a desynch.

Meh, with Hyper Fighting on XBLA it was the same deal. The good players left the whole ranked matches section alone and only played in the regular casual section, and I guess that’s what’ll happen here as well.

lol this is y i stay away from rank matches. im like 30-3 had 4 guys droped b4 the match was over is so sad. friendly matches are good enough for me

on 360:

ok i disconnected on a loss again but im on 2p (right side)…
my rank didnt change nor did my rating… glitched !!!

Good job. Looks like a 5% drop in points for that disconnected match. I wonder how much you lose for being high ranked and losing to a low ranked player.

Probably needs to refresh.

Huh, it’s definite then. 360 ranked games are 3/5 rounds, PS3 ranked are 2/3.

i stand corrected then. thats crazy that ps3 is best of 3. 360 initial beta was best of 3, then they changed it to 5 on the patch

<insert joke about PS3 getting an older version>

When I play PS3 ranked matches, if I host, they are always best of 5, 3 round wins are needed for the match. I don’t know how to change this either.

I don’t think you can for Ranked, which is because theres a “standard” format that must be adhered to.

Which doesn’t make sense why some people are saying ranked matches are 2/3, and not 3/5, while others the opposite.

ok im really confused then. ranked on 360 is always 3of5. someone needs to clarify on ps3. this is for RANKED!

I’m new to this shit. “Scoreboard” on PSN is the same thing as “Ranked” on XBL, right? I looked all over the (PS3) menus for “Ranked” and I didn’t see it.

Picking Quick Match consistently gives me 2/3’s. I did try some other mode at some point and that gave me a 3/5… can’t remember what I chose.

That’s right. Quick Match is always 2/3. Searching for or hosting a match is 3/5.

Not sure how Live works, but I was #1 on PSN for awhile and didn’t cheat at all. What’s idiotic is that of my 16 losses, 8 can be attributed to random losses due to the game’s disconnect glitches at the start of a match, 1 was from choosing a wrong character because my button setup wasn’t saved from the previous time, 6 were “teleport matches” where the other laggy player (an obvious scrub) just popped from place to place jump kicking and adding some sweeps and throws in between, and 1 was a legitimate loss although still largely due to lag. So if we took out the technical difficulties, I might be sitting at 302-1. I’m sure it’s pretty similar for the other folks who’ve played a lot.

So yeah, scoreboard matches are whacked and there are almost no really good players. I’d rather play casuals with someone good here but besides TechnicalMonkey, I’ve yet to find another good player who actively plays on PSN.

EDIT: Alright, I’ve had enough of the ranked matches. There are just too many lag abusing scrubs. The lag is seriously as bad as Kaillera’s in some cases, even worse if you add in the random disconnections. In all honesty, I think GGPO’s netcode is WAY better than this (and 2DF’s as well).

^ ^ ^ Dude you sound like a monster, I’d love to play you sometime.

GGPO is definitely better, and proooobably 2DF too, but this is still hands-down the best netcode I’ve ever seen on a console. Dissappointing or not, I don’t think we should be surprised that online still can’t be taken seriously. Given current technology, I think GGPO is the best algorithm possible, and so the best experience one could hope to have. Still, SFHD’s netcodiness is definitely sturdy enough to just have a good time and enjoy the game.

I’m really busy with school and life shit right now but when things die down in the next couple of weeks I’ll definitely be sending some “play with meeee” messages to any of you guys on PSN. Responsibilities are soooo lame.

yeah i didnt understand the ranking system too lol…

im #108 right now with 51 wins and 16 losses but #107 has 46 wins and 18 losses ;p oh well!

ive encountered one dropper so far, i thought he was stupid because he will lose the match but now i understand why he did that. stupid, cause players like him will never reach the top 10 xD

I understand that generally winrate and rank won’t match up because it depends what players you play against.

But wtf, Sirlin himself is posting on his blog about being number 1 with like a 70% win rate. I’ve got a 98% winrate and I’m at 35th place or something. The disparity shouldnt be that extreme should it? The main point of making this thread in the first place was to address the question:

How are some people getting matched up in ranked games with good players pretty much all the time?

He posted a comment saying that it uses microsoft’s trueskill system.

So he probably played a ton of high ranking players, so it put him at #1. It’s not about how much you win, it’s about who you beat.

There’s no good comp on PSN. It’s a bunch of scrubs who are laggy as fuck teleporting everywhere. I can’t even get a good opening because I can’t see what the hell is going on. I always wait a split second so I can see what they do, and well, people always teleport at the start. It’s annoying as hell.

There are dropped inputs everywhere. I can’t tell you how many times that shit has cost me a match. I play Dictator, and I would go for a headstomp, and it would drop my kick imput. So I would jump straight up and land on a fireball. Really, really annoying.

I eventually switched to Blanka on Ranked because all most people do on there is play Ken, and do his hurricane kick and jump in constantly. So I just do electricity against the hurricane kick, and vert. ball or s.HK their jump ins.

I’m done with ranked. The matches are boring. I’m sick of fighting Ryu and Ken over and over again. A lot of people will D/C if they lose. At least in friendlies if someone is a lag monster or boring to play against I can just leave without worrying about some rank.

I don’t care about getting my ass handed to me legitimately. I love that shit. It helps me learn. However, losing because you can’t see where someone’s character is just sucks.

I beat David Sirlin in ranked and it barely helped my rank at all, WTF…

I hear ya man, I have like 180 wins and 80 losses and at least 20 of those are from the disconnect problem, it’s happened more times than I can keep track of. What’s stupid is that if it disconnects before the match even starts why should you take a loss for that? I can understand giving someone a loss if they disconnect in round 2 or 3 because at that point it’s almost certain that person is disconnecting on purpose but if the match didn’t even start yet it’s more than likely a PSN problem.
