You guys have enough TVs? My extra one is at Zach’s and I could take it specifically for the tourney if needed. It is just a 27" sharp.
Regarding the parking questions, there are definitely spots to park in downtown. I doubt any will be available next to Smith, but undoubtedly there will be some within a quarter mile radius. These are all street spots where you just pull up and pay with a credit card or cash like in Seattle. I believe the rate is even similar, 1.25 per hour.
Like Mackinzie said, there are also a few parking garages (Smart Parks and such) that are only about a 5-10 minute walk to Smith. I believe the PSU parking structures on the map are also available, but only the bottom floors. The bottom floors you have to pay to park, and it is quite expensive, but so are any garages. It is 10 bucks per day for that parking. You pay via cash or a card at a brightly lit machine (usually one in each corner of the parking garage or so), then put the receipt it gives you in your window and just leave when you please.
Since this is an all day event, the garage may be the easiest and cheapest, so you don’t have to continually pay for parking every few hours.
EDIT: The tournament will take place on the 3rd floor of Smith. There are a few small classrooms up there, but the majority of the third floor is the ballroom. It is located in the center of the 3rd floor and has about 8 big doors. When you get to the 3rd floor it will be clear which is the ballroom by virtue of its row of many doors.
Right on, thanks. I’d feel really bad if I reserved someone’s seat and then got my ride working… I’ll let him know though.
EDIT: But honestly I’d just rather not drive a dying car that far whether I temp fix it or not, so I should just go for it.
don’t drive a dying car.
you could get stranded.
That’s… what I just alluded towards. I meant “go for it” as in go for contacting Paul Lee about getting a ride 'cause I don’t wanna risk it.
Word, though. Word.
my bad dood.
i’m exceptionally aloof today.
Driving in Portland for an outsider like me was like combing my nutsack with a rusty rake. Shit makes NOOOOOO sense.
Just remember that portland proper is lade out in a grid with number streets running north and south and name streets running east and west. The river divides the city into it’s east and west halves the side coming from seattle is the east side (I believe you’ll be coming in from the ne, if you just take i-5 all the way through you should be able to easily get to the sw, which is were the tournament is… If you use google maps to get directions from wherever you are to 1825 sw broadway portland or 97202 (thats the building the tourney is in) you should have no problem. Also my number if you guys want it to call me on the way down or whatever is
Five Zero Three, Seven Zero Two, Eight Two One Eight (sorry for the spelling it out I just don’t want it to be jacked by random forum searches)
When I was down there driving around the Northwest Classic Games convention, every time I tried to turn somewhere, fucking BAM! Bridge in my face and I can’t turn around for 10 minutes.
I talked to hellsap about a side tourny for KOF XI and KOF Maximum impact regulation A and i was wondering if people would be interested?
Gundam SEED fan much?
yea run a KOf XI tourny. I’ll talk to some mexicans so they can get in on some XI. All I have to sy is FREE. sorry but kof Max series is wack.
I’d play casual but you’d have to make it 02 or 98 for me to enter a tourney…
Ah yeah… We have alot of bridges… But luckily if you realize that only name streets run into bridges then in general they are easy to avoid… well name streets and I-5/405. Its is also good to remember that for the most part streets are one way with every other street going one direction or the other.
As to the list of what we have confirmed, I will get a list posted up a few days before the tourney for you guys. Its just going to take a little time to get all the official info toeghther.
I’m down for KoF XI tourney.
Damn straight! Not that I’m against kofxi being ran…
we’ll just be stuck playing casuals, just bring your shit, cause I still don’t have my PS2 back…
I will bring my ps2 if not Regulation a tourny how about a Neowave tourny instead?
Where’s Team Seattle at? Regarding Marvel, of course. Those of us that asked for Marvel to be added got our wish, so where’s the love? Not very many posts regarding which Seattle Marvel players will be attending. I’m not asking every Seattle MvC2 player to sign up, I’d just like to hear some noise.
Seattle Marvel players are notorious for being uncommitted beforehand, and for showing up hella late to events. I just think that it would be a disgrace if our high level players didn’t bother saying anything before hand, then call on Saturday afternoon asking the organizers to hold the tournament for 2 hours because they’re “on their way”. That would be terribly inconsiderate to other players, and disrespectful to the organizers.
I’m new to the scene up here, but even I’ve heard of our terrible reputation.
Also, the organizers might want to look over the registration list. There are some suspect entries there. Some names aren’t even registered for any games.
Are you telling me that Justin Wong ISN’T coming all the way to a random tournament in Portland, OR to play no games?
He’s a fan of microbrew, so I hear.
