Serke - what region are you in? If youre around OR and not WA, stop by the weeklies we have wed. Otherwise just join up on the regional thread for DL with the redmond / tacoma dudes.
Danny of gametrader in beaverton really is excited for portlands scene in any gaming, he posted flyers for this tournament at his store, anyway, my point is that he is willing to loan out systems for use ie: dreamcasts, ps2’s, and given assurance of safety his own personal ps3 for tekken DR. ofcourse! the systems aside from the ps3, would be for sale after the tourney. do we need any games also for the tournament?
Umm I don’t think we need any games by our last count. I just got Toodle’s TDC v2 which should have every game we need to run on the DC I just need to start burning copies. We may or may not need more systems, DCs are probably a for sure. And more than that we need PS2 to DC adapters. Thank you everyone so far for being so helpful! You are all great and I am hoping this tourney is going to be one of the best ones in a long time.
This count is sort of off the top of my head so it may not be completely correct…
5 dcs
5-6 ps2s
3? Ps3 - I really don’t know on this one… sorry.
12 - tvs
and At least 4 dc to ps2 adapters.
And yeah the pots look pretty nice. Hopefully everyone shows up.
Organizers should post a checklist of equipment that they’re short of. This would prompt attendees to bring what’s missing and help out. KabukiMono posted as I was typing this up. But I still can’t tell from his post what else they’re in need of. It just seems like a list of things they already have.
Also, Pablo, I think I have found a solution. Being a master of self delusion, I discovered how to justify the trip to myself. Since Beasley’s been reminding me that he owes me for that first party PS2 memory card he lost during the Evo trip, if he pays me back that money (~$30), it should pay for my entry fees and gas. That way, I’m not committing any additional resources to such a venture. Let’s get ready to lose miserably in Marvel–the only game that matters in the NW.:china:
No point ogling the pot, Pablo. You and I have no prayer. This is about supporting the scene and having a good time.
I don’t think I can win in any of those games, but I will sure as hell try. I imagine some randoms will just show up and make the pots even bigger which is great. I just want the scene as a whole to have a good time.
What do Random Select members recommend for parking? Is the rectangle to the west labeled “Park Blocks” free parking? Should attendees utilize Parking Structure 1 (SE) and 2 (NE) instead, or are those reserved for PSU students? What are the fees if any? Alternatively, are there on street parking for the poor/cheap minorities?
Once more, I recommend that organizers of Winter Showdown post a checklist of what equipment they’re short of. That way, people that want to help out will know what to contribute. For instance, I wouldn’t bother lugging a TV or PS3 down unless I knew you guys were in need of one.
Also, you guys mention that the tournament is on the 3rd floor. Once people arrive on the 3rd floor, is it obvious where to go?
Fucking great. Sooooo my car is starting to crap out on me, just in fucking time for finals week and the tourney. That’s just awesome. So, on the possible chance that it is not driveable for me to get to Portland, anyone potentially have room for one more?
Ugh, this fucking sucks because A) I don’t want to occupy a potential spot for someone else if my car ends up getting fixed before then and B) I don’t want to think my car is working fine and just get totally fucked and have no ride when it craps out before I can go. Fuck Greyhound. That shit’s a fucking ripoff- I used to get from Seattle to Portland and back on like $40+. Now they want like twice that, it’s like ninety fucking dollars or something. Bus’ are the shittiest form of transportation, too. If I’m shelling out mad bux I might as well take the train. Which I might have to do. Trains are cool though…
You’re assuming we know our way through Portland. I’ve been going for years and I still can’t get anywhere… much less know where the park and ride is.
I know the fan belt is fucked up, it’s not much money to get a replacement but what I’m worried about is the stupid fucking transmission. All my cars have this curse where the transmission is fucked for a while, then pretty soon it starts chugging BADLY when shifting (auto), and dying when idle at lights. Eventually it dies while I’m idle at a light and just won’t start back up. I may have only had two cars long enough for them to die out like this BUT WHY TRANMISSION WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY THAT’S SO MUCH FUCKING MONEY it’d be cheaper to just buy a new car. Not to mention the tabs are expired… but why would I wanna waste time effort and money getting tabs on a car that’s just gonna break? lol
kthx I just needed to vent… it’s not like it’s truly my car, so I appreciate what use I do get out of it.
Elias, you should try to get in touch with Paul Lee. I think he mentioned earlier in this thread that he had a single seat available. He’s also north of you, so it would be along the way for him.
And I’m on the same page with Mechanica regarding not knowing how to get around Portland. Also, for those that might be bringing a lot of gear, having parking somewhat near the venue would be nice. I’m coming from Seattle with some other players. I plan on bringing a happ 360 stick, a slant-eye style square gate stick (need the two for different games), and possibly converters along with a DC and PS2 (if the organizers still need it). I’m not sure, but someone in our crew might be bringing TVs to help with another setup. So some directions/clarification on the parking situation would be appreciated.
