man the wait for gt4 is taking soo damn long. i know its gonna own, i just hope it doesnt take till next year.
You hope it owns. I hope it owns. No reason it needed to be in development that long.
Ok, gave split/second a rental:
Err…did not do it for me. For a few reasons…
-
Catch-up A.I. is fucking stupid. If I’m driving well enough to win, just let me win. If I feel like I need more of a challenge, I’ll up the difficulty level myself. But I don’t need 4 cars flying out of nowhere when I know I’m way out in front.
-
Power plays are cool like the first 2 days, but that wore off really quickly. Then they became a hassle to get, you basically have to choose between deriving recklessly, knowing the a.I. is coming for you, and driving carefully, thus never building the bar. Also, once you get to the later episodes, the computer never gets hit anyway.
-
Didn’t really care for the other game modes, missles, semi trucks, fuck all that. Becomes overly frustrating on the higher levels anyway.
-
Online play was massively dissapointing. There should have been a class system, because if you don’t have the best cars, you get smoked. Every race I played was extremely laggy, and as quick as the game is that’s terrible. Also, it seems that if you wreck online, you automatically go to 8th place, no matter where you were-though maybe this is a bug.
In shoret, rent, don’t buy.
I loled when I read that. Ok I’ll be skipping the Best Buy sale next week. I’ll catch the game when it hits $15 or less.
So which of these 2 would you fellows recommend getting first- Blur or Split/Second? Mind you I’m mostly focused on multiplayer racing, so which is better in this regards?
Blur.
blur by a clear mile
Both games have their issues though. I didn’t appreciate going through Blur’s single player career only to find out that it doesn’t unlock any of the cars you unlocked in the single player campaign for multiplayer. So by the time I got online I was already a week behind the people that just played online and already got the ZR1, Koenigsegg, etc. That’s not a good idea at all. At least in Split/Second, Forza 3, Wipeout HD, Ridge Racer 7, NFS Shift, ModNation Racers and Burnout Paradise you can grind all you want offline and take your cars online, and in Forza 3 you can progress to level 50 either offline or online.
Also, why is the base model Audi R8 a class above cars like the Viper ACR and Corvette ZR1 that have at least 200 more horsepower and would kill the R8 on the track in real life? And yes, I’m aware it’s an arcade racer, but the cars are generally classified correctly - a Renault Megane will not be as fast as a Shelby GT500 - except in this instance. Graphically, the game’s not that much better than Split/Second either.
I enjoyed both games, Blur gets the edge because it has more replay value, but Split/Second is the more original game and in my opinion, has more potential to be truly great if they do a sequel and fix the catch-up AI, mix up the tracks a bit, and expand the online play/customization.
On an unrelated note I’m amazed at how many people on the interwebs have ripped on Blur because of the Cutie Kart ad…
Speaking of the future, E3’s coming up. What do all you gearheads expect?
I’m the exact opposite. i loved that everyone starts online on even level, that if I don’t want to grind boring single-player, I still have a chance. and really, in blur, thanks to the class sytem plus different types of race- off road and street, even low level cars can compete against top cars. In S/S, I’m told that you can just buy the best cars as DLC and be untouchable. but in blur, you’re not gonna have high-power racers (class A cars) against other classes.
I guess I’m a little upset that everything past Level 10 has been a clusterfuck of slow leveling because I don’t have the equipment to consistently win online.
Also, there needs to be more off-road vehicles and especially tracks if Bizarre makes a Blur (Song) 2. There’s only two tracks where the Range Rover/LRX/Bowler Nemesis etc. can win and there’s no off-roaders in the A Class either when they could have had something like the Ford RS200. Just a thought.
Blur is a good game, but it still has it’s flaws, that’s the point I’m trying to make. So does Split/Second. So does ModNation Racers.
I just want some Test Drive Unlimited 2 info…
Love the new car pack for Forza. The Fusion needs the grill to be the color of the car’s paint though.
So how long after GT5 do you think it will take turn 10 to make Forza 4?
I’d like to see in F4:
- Some weather effects
- Racing during all times of the day
- Fictional tracks but still based on real locations.
- More rare beauties. DeLorean anybody? Cosworth Escort?
- Better looking interiors
- More drag tracks
- A larger variety of race modes
- Track creation mode
It will be a long, long while until Forza 4. But off-road racing is a must, as well as better online play (I hate how the lobbies are set up in F3 compared to F2.)
Well, the new NFS by Criterion Games is looking quite beautiful! Here’s hoping NFS Hot Pursuit plays as good as it looks?..

Burnout Paradise on-line is kinda dying (?), or I should say more people just want to mess around and not do their portion of the challenge/s…
And the Diamond P12 is not worth 500 challenges… the EHR? Yes, but not the Diamond… (just my thoughts, and yes I am in the Diamond club).
And I wish you could have done races with the bikes…
Back on topic… Hot Pursuit looks like it’s going to be awesome!
EDIT: Here’s some video footage:

Thing about off-road is that it’s so different from on-road racing. Not even Gran Turismo messes with off-road. And I’m cool with waiting awhile for another Forza.
I’m SO. FUCKING. HYPE. for NFS: Hot Pursuit and GT5.
NFSHP looks like a proper “retro-styled” game that could easily be the best in the entire series, while GT5 has nearly everything I asked for (and some things I didn’t!).
Man, fuck GT5.
800 out of the 1000 cars are upscaled GT4 models, with no interiors, and no dash camera. How much does Sony have to fuck up this gen?
And yes, there are 800 GT4 models, and then 200 “premium” cars with interior ect. It’s fucking bullshit, and in the trailers, the cars STILL sound like vacuum cleaners. NFS has had SICK, guttural sounds since Underground 1. No excuses for the shortcomings of this game. Waited too long for this.
I’ve lost almost all faith in Gran Turismo over the past few years, I will just play Forza, it’s actually amazing.
Oh yeah, HELL YEAH! Seriously, I have not cared about NFS since the 4th one(think it was called High Stakes?). Now this one though, seems to go back to how it used to be, with a current gen upgrade. I cannot wait for it. GT5 I wasn’t even thinking about since I never got into GT4, but after E3, somehow I got super hyped and can’t wait either. That game trully seems like it will mop the floor with the face of any racing game that tries to compete.
