Racing/driving games thread v1.0 Type-R

It’s still 500 more cars than Forza 3, which was a disappointment in its own right. Still a lot of broken cars, no one’s online because the matchmaking system is a fucking mess, all it has is cars and a livery editor. That’s it. Everything that was revolutionary about Forza Motorsport that made people take notice was already done in the first two games. GT5 online will have up to 16 drivers on certain tracks and online track days to practice/socialize with. On that alone, GT5 has an edge. And yeah, I am a diehard GT fanboy, have been since '98. So whatever.

Honestly, I don’t even use the match-making, I play with friends. That’s probably why I’m not hot and bothered about it.

I loved GT for many years but… while GT4 was great for it’s time, it contained a shit ton of let downs. Why the fuck can’t I split screen SSR5 with my friends? Why do many of the cars still sound like ass (I’m looking at you Camaro Z28! LT1s do not sound like vacuum cleaners!)? Why can only player 1 use nitrous if you deviate from default controls? Why are the over-steer and fish tailing mechanics either so badly unrealistic, or not there altogether? These are simply a few examples, I could go on.

GT5 might have 500 more cars than Forza, but I am sure it’ll be more like 300 more because they’ll stuff into GT5 20 similar Skylines, 30 similar RX-7s, etc. A crap ton of their “different cars” can be easily ignored or dismissed. Forza has plenty of cars, and they add like 10 more every 2-3 weeks. Come to think of it, Forza has a lot more cars now compared to release. Also, I cannot go back to driving without an interior view. So fuck that. Also, you assume that you’ll actually see GT5 on shelves by Nov 1st. The game should have been out years ago. If they have to add content patches and/or bug fix patches, fine, but the fact that GT fans have been forced to wait until PS4 comes out is utterly inexcusable and ridiculous in every way, shape, and form. While on paper not much is revolutionary about Forza, ultimately they had a good formula going in 2, and 3 just feels so much better, and looks so much prettier. I don’t see much revolutionary about GT either though. I got so sick of the bugs and fun-breakingly bad sound and mechanics in GT4, I had to switch to Forza 2.

I can respect you for holding on for GT5. I tried very hard to be stoked for it, I really did! I’m sure when it finally comes out on December 21st, 2012, it’ll be a pretty awesome game. There is a good chance I will buy it too! All I can say is, if GT5 is anything short of perfect, then GT fans got fucked. Hard.

I WAS a diehard GT guy until E3 2010. Bought all GT’s on launch except the 1st, which I promptly bought after discovering/playing it on a demo disc, imported Prologue nearly a year before the US release, for like $80 and I still play GT4 with my DFP wheel.

Fuck that shit. I’d rather have 500 cars that I have an interior for. In this generation, dash view in a MUST. I still throw on some Tokyo Xtreme or GT4, but that’s where the line crosses, if its this gen, MUST. That’s why I barely played Forza 2, and thats part of many reasons NFS ProStreet sucked. Then there’s still an issue; online. You realize it’s PSN, right? How many dropped games, laggy, can’t connect to one person in a room (even friends)and therefore cant connect to the room, ect, bullshit is going to be online? I will find a used copy on Craigs, Sony can’t get my money for this game.

I’m not thinking about it anymore. I’m gonna play the WRPG’s in my sig, until Fallout Vegas, and Test Drive Unlimited 2 is out.

This.

And props for mentioning Tokyo Xtreme!

I was thinking about that series just the other day while, of course, driving. It’s one of the few that really delivered on the thrill of street racing at night. Someone needs to bring that shit back.

Admittedly, I only played 3, but it was one hell of a game for it’s time!

It’s been back. It’s called Import Tuner Challenge and it was released on the 360 in 06 but was published by Ubisoft hence the name change. Crave was the publisher of the DC/PS2 releases and owns the name “Tokyo Xtreme Racer”.

Here are some of my Tokyo Xtreme Racer X Leaderboard/Time Attack vids.

Heh for some reason i started playing it again last night. I think i’m finally gonna finish it. I’ve finally retired from TXR2 succumbing to the fact that i know that i will probably never finish that game, although it is my all time favorite in the series. There’s just so much you can do in TXR2, tons of cars, customization options with stickers, tuning etc. It just sucks that Genki probably won’t be making another game for a while since they’re focusing on pachinko games

Genki is coming out with a TXR on the DS later this year. I wish they would do another ITC/TXR on the current gen though.

Yea i think that they might shift focus of the TXR series on psp and ds. A non-rushed ITC/TXR would be sooooo good. I could even take a TXR2 remake with updated graphics and be more than happy.

Just tried this they wouldn’t accept both coupons together. So when running the 20 dollar one which went through another cashier saw it and said we aren’t accepting it cause its false or unverified. Then a supervisor came over and said I haven’t been here in a few days but if she says its unverified you can’t use it. Checking online other people are having this problem but some others actually were able to use both in some locations.

Damn, Outrun 2006 is hard to find these days.

Also more people need to be enlightened about the joy that is Need For Speed: High Stakes on PC. 11 years later and it’s still one of the best ever.

NFS: High Stakes was awesome, I played the shit out of that game on PS1. NFS: Porsche Unleashed was sweet, too.

Burnout: Paradise and Midnight Club: LA are my favorite racers so far this gen. I didn’t like Blur that much, it got boring really, really fast.

Well this is the game I’m looking forward to most. I don’t imagine playing much else. Infact I will probably be getting it on both systems.

We need to match in this game. Add me.

2, Zero and 3 defintely take some time, work, and reading to beat. Actually 3 can’t be beaten 100% without a cheat device because of a glitch.(I beat it LOL)

Zero had slightly better options, because of the wheels, ect. But overall 2 had much better graphics.

Hmmm. Must look this up. They should hold out until 3DS though.

Agreed. A remake of all the DC/PS2 games would be tits. Just for the simple fact that the current systems could upscale them, in the way that MVC2 backgrounds were upscaled. But on the otherside, I have completed game+ for every game in the series, and don’t think I could go through them again. While I have no problem starting them up and playing as is, I can remember how nail biting some of the races are, and getting some lucky ass races.

I remember one of those guys TXR3 with the power around his car, he would rape me time after time, well one time he started behind a truck, LOL. I can’t imagine being able to beat him otherwise. Or beating the Devil S30Z in either of the games. Even though I’ve beaten him, if he, or some other high bosses appear back on the road, I get beaten. Don’t want to deal with them mofos again.

I absolutely hate MCLA. Rubberband physics, and multilapped races, putting cars in way pf the line you took on the last race. That game made me rage.

^ I hated MCLA because of the power-ups believe it or not. Bullet time in a racing game is so fucking dumb. Great customization though.

And I agree, TDU2 looks dope. I never played the first one, but this looks so much better.

Anyone else stoked for F1 2010? Fucking love Formula 1 and Codemasters racing games.

Colin McRae Rally 05
Grid
TOCA 3

My favorite Codemasters racers.

I’m not a F1 fan, but yes: Codemasters makes fantastic racing games.

What I really long for is another Ridge Racer game in the vein of RR4. That was the last good one.

TOCA 3 for PS2 is fully compatible with the Logitec G25.

Tyrsis: Ridge Racers for PSP and Ridge Racer 7 were proof that the series still has life in it. Too bad that thanks to E3 2006, Ridge Racer will forever be known as a punchline to a joke that got old two years ago.

I got OutRun 2006 today. Holy shit. I went right into OutRun 2 SP and found out that Outrun Online Arcade cut over half the soundtrack - all of the retro tunes especially, which sucks because Shake the Street '89 is AMAZING DRIVING MUSIC. Otherwise, they’re the same game. Just half the soundtrack’s gone, that’s all.

Yeah I’m craving a new console Ridge Racer. I can’t wait till the next console though.

A Ridge Racer on the 3DS though…
