Racing/driving games thread v1.0 Type-R

Discuss 'em here! Everything from Mario Kart to Forza, and everything from OutRun to Burnout to Wipeout.

I for one can’t wait for Split/Second, along with Gran Turismo 5.

F-Zero GX wins thread, sry.

Holy fuck, F-Zero GX was awesome. So difficult, but so awesome.

This a thousand times. I’m normally a Wipeout guy but F-Zero GX impressed me a lot. Everything in that game is just designed to perfection - though I agree, the Story mode challenges are a bit too hard. Especially when you have to beat them on the hardest difficulty just to unlock the AX ships.

Speaking of AX, who here has raced on an AX machine?

I’ve been playing Dirt 2 on my PC a lot lately. I love the game, and it looks great with Direct X 11. Perfect combo of arcade and sim.

Why Wipeout XL (2097) is awesome

Me.

Nowadays, gotta make due with the GC version.

I second this. I haven’t played a racing game seriously in I don’t know how long. For me, the high water mark was always Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit 2 and Gran Turismo 3. As I’ve gotten older, the NFS series has gone downhill as far as the action goes, and my attention span has gotten to short for racing sims proper.

However, Split/Second, if it can be done properly might make me start up again. This shit looks like it will have that high intensity stressfulness of Hot Pursuit, hopefully the cars will handle well. The project seems very abitious, however, I could see it turning into a completely random clusterfuck if not done properly.

BTW, anyone else wishing for a re-release of the orignial F-Zero???

Um, Why

I’m more hype for GT5 than SSF4 or BBCS.

If there’s any truth to the car list that was circulating, my dinky Camry’s gonna be in it. Will be interesting to drive my actual car in-game.

Split/Second marks the first time I’ve ever been hyped for a video game published by Disney. Yes, Disney of all companies is publishing it. If the game is good online and offline, it’ll certainly consume a lot of my time - whatever time Super SF4 doesn’t consume at least.

I love sims but hate arcade racers. I grabbed grid not knowing that it was the latter. Not very fond of it. Mario Kart and F-Zero are the only arcade racers that I enjoy.

I hate those futuristic racers like F-Zero and Wipeout. I love the N64 Pod Racer though. That was fuckin sick. I dig games like Grid and such and I really like the Burnout series. I like games with loud cars that go really fast sideways lol. I wish Namco would do more with the Ridge Racer series. Those are so fun but they only do games in the series when a new system comes out like what…2 RR games every 8 to 10 years? Lame. Used to be a seminal racing series. Now it’s barely a blip.

Now that I have a really good that I can buy a really good racing wheel I’m quite interested in GT5. I could never get into the series cause playing it with a controller always felt wrong, like playing a flight sim without a yoke.

Racers with licensed cars are always number 1.

The car I own at a given time is usually in most game.

Haven’t played any racers since this:

Lemme hear some opinions on R:Racing Evolution.

been playing oldies but goodies
ridge racer 2 and wipeout pure both for psp

gran turismo for psp is the biggest pile of shit ever

and i want more trackmania games too

Tech Romancer: It’s Ridge Racer V with licensed cars and a cute chick on the cover.

R4, Rage, RR7 and the PSP games are better.

I prefer arcade-style racers and Rally racing games… I usually hate simulation-type racers (Forza notwithstanding), Gran Tourismo bores me to death.

Futuristic racers are fun too. F-Zero GX is great, but I actually prefer F-Zero X, random track generator FTW. If you have a PS3, WipeOut HD is very impressive, a definite must-buy.

If you’re into Rally games, I highly recommend Dirt 2, RalliSport Challenge 2, and Colin McRae 2005. Sega Rally Revo was a huge letdown, don’t bother with it.

I’m currently playing Forza 3 and Dirt 2.

Yeah, I still have a fever, so this post is all over the place…

Yeah, Sega Rally just isn’t Sega Rally without this:
