Racing/driving games thread v1.0 Type-R

NFS: Most Wanted is probably the best “recent” NFS game IMO.

Hot Pursuit 2 was only good if you played the PS2 version because the other versions were developed by a different (inferior) studio.

First game in the series where if you owned it on PC you actually weren’t getting the best deal.

The Hot Pursuit mode in this game is insane. I forgot how much of an asshole the helicopter was.

Droppin bombs on dem nikkuhs!

Speaking of, I still have all the Classics, including “Road and Track Presents The Need for Speed.” I am missing Porsche Unleashed. However playing them now makes me want to gouge out my eyes. I also have Carbon on PS2 and PS3. I keep the PS2 version, because I have a save transferred to my PS3 that I used a Gameshark on for $$$$$$$. Those graphics hold up much better than the PS1’s. LOL. It’s fun to build a car then take on the last set of races.

And Underground 2 is the shit.

Hot Pursuit 2 was the shit. I actually bought a used one for $21 out of nostaglia, since my ps2 was modding and every thing was all burned games and the disc I had before got thrown out.

I currrently blaze in Burnout Paradise via PSN, every friday nights… I est’d a topic on the playstation forums, a place to meet up, but the burnout forums is dead pretty much. Want to race more people that don’t fucking drive Deloreans, Camaros or Hawkers ffs.
If I win with an X12, that is bloody sad, because I fucking love the X12…

Played Burnout: Takedown and Revenge, Takedown’s got consistent menu and I like that, but Revenge has a sweet feel when driving fast, and traffic checking felt fucking sick despite how unrealistic it was. Criterion needs to bring back the Euro Circuit Racer from Takedown. I like the Euro Racer and LM Classic and all, but it totally can’t replace the Euro Circuit, 2 totally different designs.

F-zero GX is fucking intense, but I played very little of it, it’s hard as balls, steering in F-Zero is touchy as hell, I’m used to playing f-zero on pad via snes.

CTR was kick-ass, it was probably the basis of kiddy arcade racers for me, PacMan World Rally, Mario Kart ( i know MK came before, but I played CTR before this), I liked it back then when I was little, but now I’m not interested. Thus why I’m probably not going to get modnation racers, despite how much people will be playing that game. If I got it for anything it’s for the modding, seriously it’s the little big planet of racing… character, car and track modding go fucking deep. texture altering, and model creating… Next level shit, seriously. But the driving is too bloody lame. I’d probably get a bigger thrill out of making a level from LBP than creating a track in this game.

The Road & Track Car Pack for Forza 3 just dropped yesterday. 10 new cars for 400 points.

Yeah you bet I grabbed it. FO SHO!! Lol, but yes I bought a SHO. Also, I didn’t grab the VIP package until yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised when after doing so, Turn 10 sent me like 10-12 cars. That’s just cool! I have over 150 cars now, most of them are capped in some class or another.

Also, anyone here good with the vinyls in Forza? I have a Juri Han RX-8 (kind of inspired by Neela’s RX-8?), but the one picture of Juri Han, while good, is a little more cartoonish than what I was going for. If anyone could make something good and a little more serious, I would pay good credits for it.

Here’s what I got so far:

The roof has a Super SF4 logo, and the license plate has the Capcom logo.

Now that you mention it; I don’t remember seeing a speedometer. But it still never seemed like I was going “fast” if that makes sense.

ANd I think you can invite folks, so if you guys want to get together one night this weekend - I’d be donw.

I played the Blur beta. Day 1 buy. Game is fantastic. They do power-ups in the best way. None of the power-ups will cause you to lose serious time except Shunt (homing missile) and Mine, and both can be avoided. Shunt is easy enough to avoid if you are ready, but not too easy that it makes the weapon useless.

I’m not sure by what you mean about no sense of speed. The only time I have thought “this car should go faster” is during the some of the straight-aways in that level with Roy’s Hotel (but even then, you can get 7 or 8 Nitro each lap).

I remember playing the game on PS2 at my friend’s and thinking “Oh yeah this game’s awesome.” I buy it a few days later on PC and I get a big surprise.:arazz: Yeah, the pursuit mode was cool though, I like the fact that the cops just give up on arresting you and decide to blow you up instead.

Speaking of Blur, I’m kinda disappointed the beta didn’t come out on PS3. it looks really good from the videos and previews I’ve seen; kinda like Project Gotham with items. Hopefully they’ll at least release a demo for the PS3 before the game comes out.

CTR was good, but I was more of a Mario Kart guy, myself. ModNation Racers is DEFINITELY a Day 1 purchase for me, though - not only is it the “Little Big Planet of racing” like you said, but with all that free user content out there, I pretty much never have to worry about ever having to get bored of the same ol’ tracks ever again. That alone is worth the purchase price.

And as for the driving controls - the last IGN review said they were actually pretty tight. I didn’t get to play the beta, but I would think that that is probably one of those things that gets tweaked in a beta - I wouldn’t judge them off just beta results. Now, if they release an actual demo (PLEEEEEEZE!), that would be different… Everything I’ve seen so far makes MNR look like a must-own to me!

Wipeout HD is on sale for $10 this week.

You’re an idiot to pass this up.

or without a PS3.

I’ll probably still buy it and hold on to it if that’s even possible.

C’mon Sony, give me that white PS3!

You guys have gotten me interested in checkin out Wipeout.

I will run you off the track if you show up with a SFIV themed car.

Please please PLEASE refer to my top ten list a page or two ago. It’s hard to play say, HD and then go back to Fusion or XL. So keep that in mind if you plan on playing any of the PS1 era games.

And I’m so glad that I’m not the only one that loved Crash Team Racing. Makes me sad that Crash isn’t still a mascot for Sony. Naughty Dog just makes excellent games.

DO IT! The gaming world would be a better place if more people got into Wipeout.

Also if you don’t own a PS1 or 2 then the original game is still available to download for 6 bucks on the PS3/PSP.

Pretty soon I’m going to have to get a flip-top for my PS2 Slim, Breaker Pro and Wipeout 3 Special Edition… like I said I was going to

So I bought Wipeout Pure and Wipeout Pulse for my PSP. Found them at Gamestop today for 3 bucks and 9 bucks. Put in Wipeout Pulse, ran the first track. Was fun. Course design seemed like a neat appetizer, the music was fun and the controls where tight but also interesting. Using the shoulder buttons for tighter turns is neat.

So I go to put in Wipeout Pure and find ANOTHER copy of Pulse in the Pure case. DAMN YOU GAMESTOOOOOOOOOOP!!!

I have to go back tomorrow and wring that clerks neck.

Hah! Have to catch me first!

But really, in the sea of anime-themed cars, it’s not so bad. I have plenty of perfectly serious rides anyways.

When you finally get Pure, remember: There’s enough FREE DLC available to give you twice as much game. Also the retro recreations of old tracks don’t feel that much like the originals, especially Altima VII and Karbonis.

Which makes sense considering the crafts handle differently from the old games. Yeah the DLC for Pure was primo. Especially that exclusive tripped out European shit.

Wipeout Pure is one of the greatest racing games of all time. That shit defined the PSP.
