The lack of Daytona in this thread sickens me…Im picking Daytona USA 2 this Thursday…Im so freaken excited!
Battle Gear series is the shit. One of the best arcade racing games, imo.
I love Daytona 2. But only in the arcade. I dont know if I could EVER play that game on pad.
Right now, waiting on that Test Drive Unlimited 2. Spent so much time on the original.
wait what? u mean ur buying the cab? at 1 time i almost bought a daytona 2 cab with 2 cabs attached to each other. dude was only asking 1200 for that shit. this back when the dollar was worth more than the euro. daytona 2 > any other arcade racer ever.(CONSOLE or cab). ps3 typing sucks, especially when its put on dutch.
Yes im getting a 2-player Daytona USA 2 cab this Thursday. I was able to convince the asian wife too without her leaving me! So now i have a SFII Hyper Fighting Cab & Daytona 2 cab…All i need now is an astro city cab & Point Blank & im complete!
How much do Sega Racing Classic cabs cost? I would have sprung for one of those. Music in that game is GDLK.
Boss.
Fixed that for you.
I’m really enjoying Blur. I’m not sure how you guys are saying that Split/Second will be better when we only have fancy videos to go off of and previews. I wasn’t even on the fence about Blur at first. I had zero interest in it. But with an open beta demo, I figured why not, and I thoroughly enjoy it. More than likely I will buy it when it comes out. If you are hating on Blur you need to realize that this game is extremely well balanced compared to the likes of other cart racers. And I’m betting more on the longevity of Blur than Split/Second since S/S depends on the same traps and drifting to build meter where as Blur is about driving as well as possible (so no risky drifting moves) while packing heat.
I’m not saying S/S won’t be better but I wouldn’t be quick to toss my eggs in that basket (and yes I know that Pure was amazing).
Forza 3 Question!
I’m thinking of blowing 400 points on Forza 3’s Jalopink pack. Is it worth it?
Maximum Tune 2.
High speeds on Japan’s dense highways? Check.
Drifting at tight corners? Check.
Fun and entertaining story mode with 80 levels? Check.
Ability to upgrade your car and tune it according to which course you’re racing on? Hell yeah.
Keeping track of how many opponents you’ve beaten since you started? Check for self-esteem boost.
Loud speakers that play sick trance beats right beside your ears and get you all pumped up? Check.
Racing and yelling at your 3 other friends/opponents in an arcade environment? Check that mothafucka.
I’m not into console racing games. Imo they’re shitty without a wheel/pedal/shifter/seat, and I get bored driving on closed tracks. If I wanna play a racer I wanna get pumped up. I wanna feel like I’m actually driving a car, with the wheel shaking like mad as I go 250 km/h while I avoid oncoming traffic. Nothing I’ve played had given me the adrenaline and fun than MT2. I probably spent like $300+ on this game in high school…stopping only when I finally remembered I don’t have a job.

Wipeout Fusion for PS2, and Mario Kart 64 best racing games ever
I never played any other racers besides Daytona games. Any games similar w/ the arcade feel w/ drifting?
SCUD Race/Super GT (arcade only) is very close to Daytona, with a similar drift system. So is Sega Rally 1+2, but it’s an off-road game with uneven terrain and other stuff like slippery snow/mud. Other games like Ridge Racer series and Outrun 2 have drifting, but they’re handled differently than those games.
I never played Indy 500 or Touring Car. Were those like Daytona?
I dont like the look of Scud(futuristic), looks exactly like Daytona though…I wonder if i can buy the board & just swap it out into my cab.
As for Sega Rally, i was always turned off by it because it felt like i was driving on ice the whole time. Like there was no grip at all or you couldn’t feel the road, then again i never played them in the arcade. I saw some youtube clips of SR2 & looks pretty cool, do you do powerslides like 4-2-4 in Manual?
Pure really was an excellent game, but damn, it just didn’t seem accesible to me. I was visually blown away, and I got the feeling of speed while racing, but I don’t know, it just seemed like the game was more complicated than it needed to be.
I’m all for customization, but it just felt to me like it became more of a trial and error thing…kind of turned me off.
Is there anywhere else to get the beta for Blur?
As a serious Wipeout fan I say to you, wtf? Fusion?
Did you play XL, 3, Pure, or Pulse?
pulls out hair in a fit of fanboy confused rage
Yeah me (I think). I’ll pm you sometime tonight.
Another super Wipeout fan on SRK? SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!
Fusion tried a lot of new things with Wipeout that hadn’t been done before. The new handling was obviously meant to make the game more accessible to novices but it just didn’t feel right. Dropping speed classes in favor of ship upgrades was a disaster. I actually liked being able to damage ships and the over-the-top weapons and track designs in that game. And Zone mode went on to be an awesome game mode. It’s good, still better than most PS2 racers, but nothing compared to the PS1 trilogy.
One thing I wish they’d bring back was pilot profiles like they had in the original and Fusion. Maybe if another Wipeout gets made they’ll do a story mode for that.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head about Fusion. Plus, it’s the only soundtrack of the series I have with broken ass mp3s. ONLY ONE. Pisses me off so much. But yeah the tracks kicked ass in that game.
What I like about Wipeout:
Wipeout: Oh I played this bad boy after XL and 3 so… yeah. Not terrible and you can see the originality in design (especially compared to Nintendo’s F-Zero which currently does not fit on any of their platforms. Fuck Nintendo) but it is a step back. Can’t complain though when I found it in it’s ORIGINAL BOXY PS1 case. Classy shit.
Wipeout XL: The easiest in the franchise and the beginning of the love affair that is quake. Pretty good tracks too and the soundtrack is arguably the best. Arguably.
Wipeout 3: The one I actually started with. Hard as shit but utterly beautiful. I felt like that game was trying to make russian love to me. Also a big fan of the soundtrack here. Something about them really flow with the tracks. Speaking of which, the tracks were damn good.
Wipeout Fusion: See what you just said.^
Wipeout Pure: My favorite Wipeout to date. I wish that the soundtrack here was a bit more memorable. That’s such a minor nitpick. Liverpool went all out with the DLC (though I wish we got that weird European shit… so effing weird and beautiful). The tracks were super sweet and the gameplay tweaks are perfect for Wipeout.
Wipeout Pulse: Man eff this game. I don’t hate it but the tracks just sucked to me. They lose their impact since they have to also be in reverse. I’d rather play just a really good one way track than a decent two-way.
Wipeout HD: It’ll be my first PSN PS3 download.
Not So Honorable Mention?
Wipout 64: Ok so technically the first Wipeout I played but ya know, who really counts this one? Just played multiplayer on it and that was it. Lost miserably.
Ranking the Wipeout series
- HD Fury
- XL
- WO3
- WO1
- Pure
- Pulse
- Fusion
- WO64
HD is my #1 because of solid online play, great tracks taken from Pure and Pulse, amazing visuals, the controls are spot on and overall it’s the most perfected version of the game to date.
Now that said I have yet to mod my PS2 in such a manner that I can play Wipeout 3 Special Edition on it.
scud race looks fucking dope, its as close to daytona 2 as any other game can get. personally i find daytona usa 2 and scud race to be the 2 best arcade racers ever made, they resemble each other to a tee or however you say that shit. closely followed by sage rally 1 & daytona 1, than sega rally 2. as far as i remember indy 500 was a dope ass game too, wasnt it from namco? i played the game in a cab where the cab also moved from left to right. if thats the game thhat i remember though.
i could have gotten dayotna 2 for around 800/900 dollars back when i found it, now its like 2500 bucks but from arcade retailers not second hanbd from somebody. curious, what are you paying for it?
so anybody also got fast rides or driven fast rides or been in a fast ride? list a few so i can see whats up. ill go first.
opel calibra 4x4 turbo 275 kmh (old gf car)
bmw m3 (96 special) 280 kmh (friends car)
evo 6 260 kmh, but the acceleration on this is a motherfucker is hard and quick/short, you run through gears real quick. (real rally edition, mackingen or somethng, tuned and all, friends car)
friend of mine rented a lambo gallardo, but i partied too hard the day before it so i didnt come with him. dude did 300 kmh plus and is one of the few friends thats gone faster than me. ill get him back though, 1 time.
ive driven other fast cars like benzes and beemers but these the stand out ones. the 190 evo 2 amg my dad used to own way back in the days was a really nice car as well.
also is this blur beta also for ps3 or just for 360? if its for 360 a friend of mine wants it to if somebody wanna be kind enough. ive seen 2 new racers (arcade style), split second and blur, which one seems like the beter one (i know it wont be shit compared to scud and dayt2, but still).as far as arcade racers go, anybody even play a racer as good as or almost as good as scud or dayt2? these games are hella old, but still by far the best around (daytona 3 or sage am2 arcade race collection would be the shit).
@MUSOLINI: Scud Race - erm, Sega Super GT - great driving game from Sega. Anything’s awesome if it has a McLaren F1 in it.
Sega made Indy 500, not Namco.
My first car is a Mercedes-Benz 190E, not the awesome Evolution model though. I’ve ridden in one of my friends’ RWD-conversion Hyundai Tiburon before though.
And yes, the Blur beta is 360-only.
Like I said, I know because the Blur beta is out now that you have a chance to get hands-on with it as opposed to Split/Second, but still, I can’t help but think S/S will be the better game.
thanx man, didnt know blur was 360 oly, ss proabalytoo? fuck it ill wait for gt5.
and yeah the 190 evo 2 amg my dad owned was fucking awesome. i still miss that car, shit just couldnt break down (dad did a jump with 5 peoples in the car, driving way too fast up a bridge making the car jump several feet on the way down than landing on all 4 with nothing breaking) no matter what (these engines do a 1.000.000 km with ease, then get send to africa and do a mill more). when my dad was away he left the car to my uncle who sold it and bought a bmw 5 alpina. which sucked, it was good back then but lost its vallue while the 190 evo 2 is still worth quite a lot. i remember being mad at my dad for taking of the big ass rear spoiler and putting on a smaller one with more visibilety.
also the 190 of the old are way better cars than the newer e classes benz makes. benz aint what it used to be, my uncle got the new S and its nice and all but the quality just aint what it used to be. my other uncle owns a bmw 335 diesel chipped, 330 bhp+ and over 700 nm +, shits almost as fast as the m3. and this for a diesel, if i make as much money as them ill probably buy a 335 diesel as well. i also like the 135 coupe but dont know if its also available in diesel or just benzine.
