ok i need some serious help. ive played about 50 games n haven’t won one. Rachel is who I want to use . Help please!!!
has this ever happened to anyone? Rachel used her lightning special but nothing came out except the sound. Her ring appeared and sound, but she didn’t float in the sky.
It would help if you were a little more specific with what you need help with.
First off… Let me make a note here.
RACHEL IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO USE IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE SYSTEM
Now then. Onwards.
This does NOT make her a bad character. But her learning curve is arguably the highest of the cast. Why? Well for starters, her drive does absolutely no damage to your opponent. This is a break, and I won’t go into details, as you already know that, I’m just underlining.
Now then. Rachel is a pressure character, but not in the same way as other characters. Then again, the same could be said of any character, but Rachel THRIVES on it. You need to keep your opponent offbalance because as soon as they get ahold of her, she’s in trouble.
This doesn’t mean sit back and launch batpoles either. Get in their face, but KNOW what you are doing before you do it. If it works, fantastic, if not, then fall back while throwing things at them.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stuffed a Tao lunge or Icecar while jumping in the air with 236B.
If you are going to go into close combat, make sure that you are getting the first hit. If not, then I suggest you gtfo of there asap and reset. An offbalance rachel is a cornered rachel, and a cornered rachel is usually a dead one. (Few circumstances change this. 8D->2CD will launch… IF you can get off the ground.)
Feel free to tell me to STFU.
Edit: Also feel free to friend me on XBL if you wanna go a few rounds. Maybe I can help those who aren’t quite getting it… not that I’m some crazy Rachel pro.
i uploaded a video and hope you guys can give me some pointers. I messed up the quality, but it’s watchable. First day play Rachel i went 6-13

Work on the timing of those batpole detonations for one. That’s a tough one. The combo timing and usage needs a little work (Several moments where an attack whiffed, but that takes practice)
Random specials though they wouldn’t hit… other than that, the few combos that I did see go through worked rather well. Just keep up the practice and you’ll have it down.
Also, you don’t have to detonate those poles right off the bat! If you keep them on the field, you’ll notice your opponent moving differently to avoid the potential detonation. Use THAT to your advantage! That or wind blow them into a pole when they aren’t expecting it and blast them!
Yeah I have the same problem… doing 2C (Shocking cat move) usually does the trick, if you catch em correctly with it, they go flying into the air, a perfect opportunity to set up a pumpin or frog.
But even with that, it’s still not enough…I get owned by Jins and Noels a lot still…
thanks for the help. i was able to do combo in trainning, but not in real match haha. i was also trying to set people up for air combo(6a, 5b), but 6a has very short range, I keep getting pwn whenevery i try to use 6a.
0:18 - Spamming A to start a combo is generally a bad idea, since A hits prorate heavily. It looks like you did 2A 2A 2A 5B 5BD 5C 236B 22A. A better combo in that situation would be something like 2B 5B 5CDC 236B 22A. Spamming 2A basically kills any damage you might have done with that combo.
0:33 - Air A Lobelia is risky
0:40 - Like Weretiger said, get the timing of your detonation down, which is really just learning how long it takes to activate and how large the blast radius is. It’s just really punishable if you whiff it.
1:28 - SURE IS 2A SPAMMING AROUND HERE. See above point.
1:55 - Not a bad little combo right there. I’m just not a fan of 5B 5B since the second one turns into 6B and pushes the opponent back. I’d use 5B 5CDC.
2:30 - If you throw in the corner, you get a free followup with 5B jc j.B j.C dj j.B j.C 236A or 5B Baden-Baden or whatever your air BnB of choice is after they bounce off the wall.
Honestly, you could be much worse off. You could use 6A more, it’s a strong anti-air and I like it for hit confirming on the ground. I posted a couple pages back on how I use 6A 5B to set up BnB air combos, and j.3D2C ground mixups.
Edit: Reposting this.
You don’t really seem to have any idea what you’re doing, honestly. Not trolling.
Seems lucky your opponent didn’t have a clue either.
I notice you throw out normals for no reason… the only one you should throw out just to put out there is fork. Which you didn’t use. You also did her sweep with wind, instead of her good combo. Gimping damage. Every time you do electric chair (except against spamming retards. just abuse it against them) you could’ve fork poked and did a big combo instead.
No real zoning, offensive pressure consists of mashing light attacks… yeah…
of course i have no idea what i was doing. That’s why i post and ask what i need to do to get better. if fork poke hits should i do 5CD, 5C?
That’s a good one, there’s a couple others that have… been well discussed to death in this thread. Fork Poke gives you FOREVER to do whatever wind combo or etc you want to do to them.
i think my ps3 is dead
shitsux.
I think I found your problem!
On topic: 5CDC isn’t bad, but I love running up with 6B 6CD~j.C 5B 6CD~j.C 3C 214A to really punish them. Works on all characters, but the timing of the j.C is a little tighter on Carl and Rachel because they’re so small.
Noel spammers die to electric chair abuse. It’s really hilarious… one of my favorite little gimmicks to use on them is to run in deep on their wake up and use my chair… when they try to recover, I get under them and chair again. So many of them start mashing buttons on wake up and they fall prey to it 99% of the time. Every now and then, I’ll mix it up and do a throw (or two or three) on their wake-up. Just abuse the chair… Shit is hilarious and easy. When they’re doing their D-chain garbage, just keep blocking low and waiting for the overhead attack and use the chair on that too. I’ve had so many Noels ragequit with this tactic. I’ve had a few Noels catch on and stop doing D-chains… trying to hit instead with the low-gun-sweep thing (hits twice). Once they start doing this, you know you’ve scared them enough with the chair that you can mount an offense using standard methods like pokes, projectiles, rushing j.3C, etc.
As for Jin… most shitty Jins games revolve around trying to connect with the icecar. Just play defensively, block, wait till they throw an ice car at you and then go for your fork-poke. Usually, they’ll try to follow up a blocked icecar with some kind of attack but your fork-poke should beat it. Then when you get the counter-hit stagger, rush in and punish them with a wind combo of your choice. If the Jin is content to sit back and throw projectiles, you’ll have to close the distance some… but do it defensively… air-dash in with the block held down… expect him to suddenly try and icecar you when you start to rush in. Playing defensively, blocking and punishing will beat most shitty Jins.
thanks everybody for the help. I think i’m getting better now.
as for j.3D2C mix up
do you really need to use wind? when i watch some video online, it looks like people can just do j2C very quick.
like this one.
http://zoome.jp/game41event/diary/29/
If you want it to combo, you need to at least use wind on the first hit. After you connect the 5B, you can get the subsequent j.3C to connect without wind.
I think that for just creating pressure, you can do j.3C, 5B, j.3C, 5B, etc. — but it won’t combo without the wind.
Out of curiosity, how did you record the vid? I’m trying to find a way to do so myself, but no give so far. Help?
i use this(see link) which i got it for camcorder long time ago. you can make dvd quality vid, but not HD. I just found out, it works for PS3 too lol
I just have to switch between HDMI output when i play and s-video output when i try to record. Because my computer is very close to my PS3, there is no need to shut down PS3 when I switch output, it takes 20secs.
