we just talked about vega in reference to Mr. Q and his troubles with the character so please look back on those comments. As has been discovered in this subforum, he has NO wakeup, so knock him down.
Yeah punishment is a big thing. When you block a slide you tend to throw him, but a lot of the time it looks like you could have been getting s.mp instead, which leads to full rope throw combos or reset chances.
My other piece of advice is to walk more. Almost all of your forward movement was done with c.hk, c.hp, forward dash, or forward jump. You almost NEVER just walked at him (you were walking a bit in the first round and then gave up). Try to get more comfortable with your ground movement, just small steps forward and backwards and go back to blocking. If you’re limiting yourself to dashes, jumps, and buttons, your movement becomes a LOT more predictable, as there are only certain parts of the screen the opponent actually has to worry about you coming from. Walking around to re-position yourself even in small increments makes it a lot harder for your opponent to judge their ideal ranges and makes it much more likely they’ll be caught in worse positions. As a corollary to the above, even though Vega can out-poke you on the ground in general, you do still have good grounded pokes, especially f+mk.
Edit: Oh yeah, and when you got that CC F+HP in the corner, you wingless’d him right back out of the corner and I cringed a little. Try to optimize your damage (you can definitely get more off of CC f+HP), but also optimize your positioning. I’d rarely opt to end a combo with wingless in the corner because the positioning is so terrible, but sometimes the raw damage or stun is worth it. In general, though, I’d prefer to either reset them or EX Peach if meter is available. It leaves you with much more favourable options afterward.
Also, in case you guys haven’t seen Fuudo doing this, Ryu’s Hados are -7 on block, so when Ryu ends a blockstring with a fireball, you’re often close enough to reversal punish with EX Peach.
Here are some Sim matches, gotta have lots of patience, they’re mixed results, and it’s hard to react to online teleports, but it’s kind of more fun than fighting Claw lol.
What should I do after hitting Sim after a tknee teleport? He flips, and then? I try to CGrab but most of the times he jumps or mashes L, meaty LadyMika seems to be the best solution huh? also, idk but maybe iI can cross under after that and try a target combo, I can’t test right now. Again, sometimes I feel into CGrabbing using P instead of K close to the corner, afraid of missing the grab :s, gotta fix that somehow, so I make sure I’m at the correct range for K’s
Feels about right based on the matches I’ve seen, but I think it’s still quite subjective at this point depending on your Mika style - i.e., the two extremes of her play-style appear to be either NativeImpact or Fuudo (go ham with gimmicks vs. footsies respectively). Some have expressed frustration with Rashid and Bison, for example.
True I listed Nash twice, heh at least I said 6/4 both times.
Mika is ok against Bison, though I think there’s that factor where you play against SO MANY BISONS that you know the match inside and out =P. Bison doesn’t have any particular strats against Mika though, Mika can check him randomly with s. lp and his moves are pretty slow. As soon as he leaves the ground for stomps Mika can c. fp under them. Even his EX stomp is punishable by jump back mp.
After you block his s. rh, he gets pushed way back, so just block some more, he has no options. Don’t fall for s. rh, walk forward, s. rh please! Don’t be afraid to throw out a s. jab after you see he’s not immediately hitting a button after s. rh. After you take that away from him and start checking him with jabs and strongs besides, it really makes him want to clam up. Then you can force him to do some v reversals. Also, you’re Mika so…when people are waiting to block so they can V reversal, well you know what to do. Mika may have no true reversal but Bison doesn’t either so anything that makes him stop pressing buttons puts him in an uncomfortable situation. It’s remarkable how often you can bait out wakeup supers against good Bisons too. A big thing with Mika in this fight is not getting lazy and going for crossup j. lk because bison can do his jump back mp, mp air to air followup juggles which hurt. Better to stay on the ground though you can mess with him using j d+mp which stuffs all his anti airs.
The Rashid fight I do think is 5/5. Rashid is actually pretty slow too. He doesn’t look slow, but he is. His only 3 frame move is s. lk which has poor range. Normally Mika’s slide isn’t a particularly good move but it’s good in this fight since Rashid’s punishes do relatively low damage. Somewhat similar to playing shotos against Blanka in sf4 where you throw out dps. How the fight goes really depends on how much Rashid insists on qcf+pp. That’s a win or lose for Rashid depending on his choices and there’s really no way to measure that in a fight. There’s no particularly weakness in this fight for Rashid to exploit against Mika though other than Mika’s usual wake up vulnerability, so I think it stays 5/5 based on some guesses on both sides. Mika can play footsies with s. mp and it’s actually pretty annoying for Rashid to deal with that at mid range.
It’ll take a while to explain all of that, I’ll get around to it.
Here’s my Ryu synopsis for now:
Ryu matchup is hard for Mika. He has slightly better footsies than Mika due to his s. mk and his confirms lead to better damage from range than Mika who needs s. mp up close to confirm to f+mp. s. mp links to qcf+pp at all ranges for Mika but that requires a meter. There’s the “random fireball to the face” factor when Ryu plays carefully if he doesn’t get into fireball hurling mode, he also easily converts his meter into damage on her whereas Mika sits on her meter and uses it one EX at a time for practicality in most situations.
Ryu can sit on meter and convert it into huge damage once a round off virtually any combo and Mika has to respect that once a round she’s going to eat half life in damage via combo xx super. Mika also has problems with Ryu’s CC c. hk xx V trigger setups since she has no invincible wakeup other than super. Anyone that watched Tokido’s excellent Ryu play at Final Round knows how this works.
Ryu’s crossup mk hitbox also reaches far behind him and Mika has problems c. fp’ing out of the way and is better off blocking it, which leads to frame advantage situations for Ryu that are no good for Mika since she has no reversal. Ryu also has the almighty meterless reversal with mp dp which makes Mika wary of applying her mixups on opponent wakeup which is a Mika strength. The fact that Mika has to stop and pause hoping to bait it out is a boon for Ryu as it always is in any game, since he can always not do it and wake up safely. This could honestly be called a 6-4 matchup but I’ll call it 5.5/4.5 because reads play a big factor and Mika can cash in on reads well if she’s on point.
I agree with @Slizzard and as a matter of fact at this point i am 100% convinced that Ryu is her single worst matchup in the game.
1- The neutral is hard in this one. It is hard to navigate through a good fireball war from Ryu. Just outside of his st.MK range you will have to guess a jump which is always risky.
2- He can convert into damage much easier than her and his pokes will give you trouble. His damage output is high.
3- You would lose life to just get in because of blocking or getting hit with the Hadouken to the face. Then once you are in, all it takes is 1 metereless DP to reset it back in his favor.
4- His knockdown pressure will be hard to get out of. Once you are knocked down after a throw or something he can always just do throw/ B.HK which will beat Ex Peach and would beat your tech attempt. Basically he gets to attack you on wakeup without fear while you must respect his DP when trying to pressure him.
5- He can punish the charged dropkick the hardest out of the entire cast. He can parry your charged dropkick into a full st.MP - cr.HP combo for a much higher damage than other characters can.
With all of that being said, i don’t think that it is winnable or anything like that. I would honestly put it as a 6.5 to potential 7 - 3.5~3.
Ryu just has better options against all of her attributes than any of the cast. Great zoning, great knockdown pressure, meterless reversal to contend with, Hardest punish on her dropkick and he does as much or even outdamages her to boot.
I’m not sure if the person actually combo-ed/canceled into it, but I’m sure the lab monsters could give it a swing - I believe he was doing a crouching move then went into super. I v-reversaled whatever he did before super.
Also, to add the the Ryu discussion - I hate cr. mk as much as the next Mika, but I like uncharged HK vs Ryu. Sometimes. Because it inches you forward, get right outside of the range and throw it out, since his hurtbox will be extended, etc.
Also, what is the deal with the Chun-li cross up kick? I couldn’t block it yesterday, is it unblockable or something? maybe just lag?
