R.Mika Matchup: 'cus pro wrestling is... the very BEST!

This may be one Mika match that I think Mika wins. Yeah it sucks when he knocks you down. It sucks when you knock him down too.

Throw s. lp out liberally. Just do it. Don’t jam on it but maneuver around and stick it out there. Gief really hates Mika’s jab, he’s slow moving, slow poking, it beats EVERYTHING he does. He has no answer to it. It’s a 3 frame jab with a lot of reach.

After you touch him with it like 15 times, start walking forward. He can’t flex it, that’s silly. Just do s. lp, s. lp. Link timing. Is he going to flex both? Yeah he can, is he going to keep doing that? Going to be risky to do that eh?

Gief should have NO offense. Don’t let him do a damn thing. This is Mika’s fight! Enjoy it. For gods sake do not do charged rh because that’s extremely easy to v skill and spd or something. Leave that move alone. Feel free to jab him more and more and build meter, then use Mika’s best tool against Gief:

Mika’s best tool vs Gief: s. mp linked qcf+pp. Easy stuff and gief eats it all day every day. Not mp xx qcf+pp. mp LINKED qcf+pp. Gief gets destroyed by this. It’s a pretty easy hit confirm and s. mp at MAX RANGE still links into this and gief really can’t do anything about it.

Also when you see him trying to be clever and use his fp toys you can just backdash, dash forward, and punish him. Once you start looking for it it’s pretty easy to do. At many ranges you can backdash, clip him with s. mp on his whiff and combo your qcf+pp.

If gief starts jumping, Mika can actually anti air him with her wingless airplane. You don’t need to be fast and use ex qcf+kk (3 frames). qcf+mk (5 frames, I believe?) is almost always sufficient. Obviously if he jumps right on your head poorly then d+mp is fine but if he jumps over your for a crossup you can do d+fp to escape in most cases.

I hope that helps. Yeah you can’t get knocked down by him or you’re in a 50/50. So…put him in more 50/50s, he has the same problems against you. Really nothing else to it. This is better for Mika though, she beats him in neutral. 4.5/5.5 Mika wins.

Do you feel like Mika needs to be worried about air SPD at all here? I’ve had it snatch up cr.MP a couple of times and I’d imagine it would beat out qfc.K (non-EX).

Seriously, do any of you guys have the Prima guide (or equivalent)?

Peach is airborne, so yes, air-SPD can nail it, but under what circumstance would a Mika player be using raw peach against Zangief when he’s TK’ing an air-SPD? As for c.mp, just use s.hp, f.hp, or possibly c.mk as your AA against Zangief.

He asked about wingless airplane not peach.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll try to use some of this stuff next time I play against gief. I think my biggest mistake before was that I kept giving him stuff to punish like s.hk, jumpins, unsafe strings. If I just play solid ground game until I have the knockdown I think I will do better.

Ugh, so he did.

WA can also get snatched - the slow-mo hit-box video shows the spot where there’s throw contention, but it’s a small window. My money would be on SPD.

Is it just me, or are all giefs just mashing jab against mika now? Is mika’s jab supposed to be better, or is there some other way around that? or does mika not win that matchup?

Mika’s lp is 3f, Zangief’s c.lp is 4f.

I love it when people mash jab against me. Free CH st.MP confirm into Passion Press? Yes, please.

Feels so good when that s.mp bites on wake-up.

Is the s for saiyan? Cuz she is already blonde… That being said, my usual game plan is to try and keep things in the neutral game and use my superior footsies and comfortability in the neutral to throw them off. Most of the Mika’s I fight want to desperately get you there. Training to punish shooting peach with wingless is another skill I find important. standing medium kick and punch are definitely your friends in this match up, as is surprisingly dash up jab/grab. Doing anything but jumping/blocking/ or dashing back on wake up is a bad idea, but this isn’t much different than a lot of her wake ups. Just my own 2 cents. Taking the initiative and making the game on your terms with a strong neutral and anti air game serves me well.

So what does everyone feel Mika’s toughest matchups are? I’ve been having a tough time against good Ryus, Cammys, Chuns, and Zangiefs.

I’m Silver.

In my skill range Ryu is not really an issue. As long as you can counter a few DP or shimmy on wake up instead of a close meaty it’s not too tough to get through them.

The toughest match up I experience is Rashid. Mostly because I don’t play against him enough to really know him well. When I do see a Rashid they aren’t horrible and that gets me.

Do you face Ryu’s that know how to use parry? At least on paper I believe his V-Trigger and V-Skill put him over the edge into at least unfavorable match up territory. I’d expect that many Mika’s would struggle with him, especially the higher the skill.

no, Ryu in my range don’t know how to parry, at least not often. When they do it’s against something obvious like a jump in attack and they parry instead of anti-air. In that sense I can just change to an empty jump mix up. Maybe a parry on a charged s.hk, but nothing else.

So here’s my take on Mika’s matchups. For what it’s worth, I’m at Ultra Gold ranking with ~6600 LP or so.

EDIT: Made a few adjustments.

Tbh guys, she’s so fucking random that you can’t talk about match ups. Just do what you do in every game and let the 50/50s gods to be in your favors. As soon as you knock down someone just go in and take the risk.

The character makes no sense in sfv so talking about match ups is weird. Crapcom just needs to get their shit together, is this supposed to be a fundamentals game or a vortex game? If it’s a fundamentals game then remove Mika from the game or change her kit entirely.

Laura and Mika doesn’t belong to this game, so you can’t take seriously their games.

level up your guessing game brah. if you want that fundamentals game play tekken

Mika’s vortex game is good enough that she can beat any character, but that doesn’t mean we should abandon matchup discussion. Matchups can still be easy or difficult depending on how Mika’s neutral options fare against the opposing character’s neutral options and how well she deals with their offensive and defensive tools.

Dawg. Shut up.
