R.Mika Matchup: 'cus pro wrestling is... the very BEST!

Depending on the strength and spacing you can get passion press, slide or butt. It’s -20 point blank so it can always be punished by something.

Yeah I have a friend who plays a lot of Rashid (FWIW I think he’s mad underrated in this game because not a lot of people have played him or “figured him out” yet, but I see scary potential).

Eagle Spike is -20, but you can’t dash in because our dash is 18 frames, so dashing leaves you +2 which is pretty worthless compared to +20, though you can be cheeky and dash -> command throw if you want to.

Your best punishes will involve using his recovery time to walk forward a little before pressing a button. You can walk up and PP even at max spacing and he can’t recover in time to block. You can also walk up, s.hp. The only tricky part about this is making sure you got back to neutral before hitting s.hp, because f+hp is not going to reach them.

Suggested punishes for Eagle Spike:
Walk forward, PP -> whatever you like to do after PP
Walk forward, NEUTRAL, s.hp xx HP Peach (you can even s.hp VTC f+mk, but they’re so far away it’s hard to keep anything going)
Walk forward, NEUTRAL, s.hp xx CA (probably optimal damage, and seems to connect even if s.hp hits at absolute max range)

Record a Rashid doing backdash (to reset spacing), HK Eagle Spike, and holding down/back afterward. Try to block it from different ranges - if he starts too close it gets blocked way deeper on Mika’s hitbox and you can hit slower stuff (i.e. walk, f+hp), but at max range I don’t think you can walk close enough for f+hp in time, or at least not consistently enough for it to be worth risking.

A small tip - try to block Eagle Spike standing instead of crouching. Crouching widens your hitbox, so he actually bounces farther away and you have to walk a little farther to hit the punish, making the timing harder. Get into the habit of blocking it while standing (you don’t really have a reason to be blocking low anyway since he doesn’t have a low threat from that range) and you’ll have an easier time punishing it.

I do think he’s severely underplayed. Viscant said they messed with his stuff in the 4th beta and that didn’t help his popularity at all.

Guys, any tips on the mirror match ? That match is brutal.

I had a match against another competent Mika and it was literally one player game every round. Whoever of us got the first knockdown will easily win the round. I have no idea how to deal with her knockdown pressure as Mika ?

I always do well against Mika as Ken but i am flabbergasted in the mirror.

To know yourself is to know the enemy in a mirror match. It really depends, but its same game plan as normal.

Want to be safe? use pokes and jabs; cr. lk cr. mk. Can’t be too obvious or you’re gonna eat an EX peach. Nadeshiko is the real question in this match because you never know where or when she’s coming.

Oh and Mika has no reversal so knock her down into f.HP. Good times.

How about these matches?

Q - I’m not much better than you  But I think some things you can work on is

  1. Frame Traps: You did a s.lp xx light peach a few times and the s.lp was blocked, while the light peach hit as a counter hit. Problem is you can’t get much off of a light peach, and if they block it’s really bad. However if you did s.lp s.mp this would let you counter hit the mp so you can passion press off of it.

  2. Throws: There wasn’t a lot of throw pressure in the game, so adding it in with a lp tick throw would help. You have to mix it up, and the lp mp and lp throw gives you a good 50/50

Oh yes i did lp xx lp peach thinking i could punish the rolls sometimes.

I’l try to implement rolls the next time but it is hard since claw outranges me so easily so i can’t see another way to get in without jumping, if i don’t, he corners me easily

Much improved over the first posting. Now it looks more like a match-up problem. There were still some execution problems which you need to work on, but I daresay you know where those are.

I don’t have a lot of experience against this version of Vega, but there were spots in the third round of the last match where you could have beaten him.

  1. If Vega goes to the wall, j.mp will beat anything he has (nearly the same deal with Bison). You just need to get the timing and direction down and that move is out (from raw, at any rate).
  2. In the corner you got a CC on f.hp and ended with ex.wa - not the worst combo, but:
2a. the ex.wa put you in the corner
    2b. you had full VT

2a and 2b tell me that maybe you aren’t considering your positioning given how you got mauled by Vega every time he put you in the corner and that you need to find a way to remind yourself to check your meter when fishing for CC.

Keep at it - the progression is noticeable.

LP -> LP peach does punish all blocked rolls, not EX though. seems safer when you start with a stand LP though & occasionally peach might be out of range… EX Peach solves this though.

Why aren’t you guys command grabbing his ass? LK roll is -6 and considering you are getting pushed into the corner by it, doing typhoon will get Vega closer/into the corner.

AHAHHAHA you can grab cammy out of her little twirly thing(not the air ball, well you can grab her out of that, but I hope u get what I mean)

s.mp much better, can confirm into Irish whip

I posted this in another thread (damn you for bringing up Mika Nerfs! Blasphemy!), but I realized it was actually pretty useful knowledge and should be somewhere a little more visible/with good traffic.

This isn’t anything specifically to do with R. Mika, but it IS to do with match-ups vs. the rest of the cast, so I think it’s important and this is probably the most appropriate thread to put it in.

Without further ado, I shall now impress you all with my ability to copy and paste my own post:

^ Not always relevant, but make sure to take throw invincible moves into account too

it was more just a funny observation than anything.

@b4k4 is chun’s ex SBK invincible? I’ve been able to body slam it, but maybe I body slammed at the end of it or something.

Also, this confirms even more that the Vega matchup isn’t that crazy as some people has postulated in this subforum…

The body slam will lose if you hit early, which is the invul part. If you hit later then you’ll tie or beat it depending on how you land.

Thanks for clarifying. I’m not technical but I definitely remember trading/beating SBK which could be very relevant if we’re doing a tier list

Having trouble with Vega. Any advice would be helpful. https://youtu.be/yJCqS1zOhZg

Your problem isn’t really the matchup, you just need to learn your meaty setups after knockdown and how to punish his unsafe moves
