So your feeling the new bison i take it?
alright in all honestly bison is top based on the fact that the situations that owned him are no longer an issue with ultra 2 granted you use it properly ETC…
the new PC is just fucking awesome now they can get randomly hit by PC (in certain situations) just as well as we use to randomly get hit out of it.

Andre is it still easy to get thrown out of scissors or PC or did they increase airborne frames at all?
Also can ultra 2 be avoided by a neutral jump even a late one? Say you punish a fireball a frame or 2 too late so that Ryu has those frames to neutral jump will the ultra still hit him? I hope so otherwise I don’t see the benefit of crossup too much. Its the one thing about it that worries me.
Good to hear PC is much better- itll make Bison way more interesting to play.
thats good news about the PC and new ultra…
I’ve been having a problem with people neutral jumping after I get close to them. After a blocked SK or blocked string, my opponent neutral jumps with a normal.
What could be a good way to counter that on reaction if I see that they jumped?
- Standing HK
- Most neutral jump attacks lack crossup potential, so you can dash under them and do a fast attack, like standing HK
- forward jump + MP, standing HK/HP
- forward jump + MP, MP -> Ultra
- cr. HP
- Focus attack level 2 -> forward dash
- Focus level 1 -> backdash
- Empty focus backdash
- EX Head Press
- EX Psycho Crusher
- EX Knee Press
- Ultra (Lightning reflexes required. Great against floaty jumpers like Chun Li)
These options are all viable and depend on how early they time their air move, how quick their jump animation is, and how quickly you can react of course. If they time it to hit you out of the air, you can easily punish with HK. If they time it late to hit you on the ground, a regular HK may lose depending on which move they are using.
However, on a hit trade this is in your favour most of the time, since air moves generally never do more than 110 damage, (exceptions are Honda HP which deals 140 etc) while your HK deals 120.
If you can predict it, s.hk will tag anybody who tries to jump. On reaction however, Bison has trouble hitting at that angle.
Check out the hitbox thread I posted up. Hit them with the active Scissor kick hitboxes as they land from their jump, don’t do it too early or their limbs will hit the vulnerable hitbox of Bison. If they jump immediately after a blocked SK, s.HK immediately and swat them down. Jumps have a 4f startup, blocked light SK leaves you at a fair state of 0f so it’s safe. Swat them down with a standing Roundhouse which comes out in 6f as there’s no jumping normal that comes out in 2f to interfere in that time. Scare them and continue ground assault.
These unblockable ultras make me…uneasy…
Bison actually has some of the better escape options from unblockable setups. Teleport, EX HS/DR, backdash (I think).
I was messing around in training mode and recorded Bison doing j.fp, cl. fp, xx hk scissors and somehow even if he crossed up the scissors came out. Is this just a recording bug?

I forgot how long, but there is a small amount of time where the charge is still stored. So you probably hit it pretty quick. The only explanation I could see is that the cs.HP xx scissor is a cancel so the charge was probably still stored for it.
Yeah I kept tryiing to do it myself but I couldn’t. If Bison missed missed the jump in he would do a backwards jump fp.
Anyway I also did a skulldiver crossup on accident: . Hope this isn’t old news haha.
Looks like an odd angle to hit the skulldiver lol. But too bad these are all impractical and inconsistent. WTB real crossup SD!
Clear openings.
Focus attack level 2 is really a door opener. Bison is at +4 frames after blocked FA2 dash in, it opens a big window for many things. Frame traps, tick throws, and other setups. Are people utilizing this?
I’m really bad at using FADCs in general and I am a low risk taker in general. I’d like to know if you guys are utilizing this a enough?
I use it all the time, its the only way I can get/land big damage on good defensive playas, people say Bisons Focus attack is lame think its the opposite. I suck at FADC’in, need more time in lad with that tool.
Are you sure about this? Frame data says only 12 frames of blockstun on FA2, and Bison’s dash is 17 frames.
Focus attack is 21 frame of block stun, so 21-17=4 I guess
edit: better explanation here. Bison’s frame advantage is give or take 4~5 off a blocked FA2
FA level 2 is one of the best tools bison has for serious. lots of setups and its become one of the most important tools in my arsenal but is definitely matchup specific. little use in the gief matchup but it can be applied, it just all depends. very helpful in the ryu matchup, not so much against sagat although i use it fairly often. against everyone else i use it pretty regularly.
I kind of have a probability tree in my head that I use to decide whether or not to use X or Y in the situation but it mostly applies to using FAs for whatever purpose. It goes kind of like this, but it’s kind of hard to order since it’s kind of circular. decisions and outcomes are also influenced by the outcome of a previous attempt to use FA. Those situations obviously only apply when you have used them, so keep that in mind. also this might be all familiar to people who use FA level 2 and is just a repetition of what you know, so this is more new information to people to are new to using FA level 2. Hopefully it’s not too convoluted but there is kind of a flowchart when it comes to using FA that isn’t the same as when using an EX stomp or throwing out scissors although those have probability charts too and are all matchup dependent. this is a bit more universal so take from it what you will even if its just a reflection of your own thought process:
A: to focus attack or not to focus attack?
-yes based on me predicting the opponent thinking “i don’t want to risk a reversal because he might be feinting. better to be safe” or “i don’t want to take a risk because it’s early in the round, have no way of predicting what he’ll do” or "he’s already tricked me with one before, I better be safe (dependent on prior outcome)
*-outcome:* 1.) I eat a reversal. why? because the opponent thought "i'm going to just take a risk and bet that he feels confident enough to do it" or "he's already tricked me with one before and just feinted, this time he probably has the confidence to follow through since he supposes I hesitate but I'll DP his purple ass (dependent on prior outcome) or "he's already used the FA on me before and I blocked and he had his way with me, he probably thinks I'm too scared to push buttons, I will bet on a reversal against his confidence (dependent on p. o.)"
2.)I land the FA and he blocks it....I can follow up with a number of things. Next time I have the choice of feinting because he I expect him to expect it or I follow through again because I expect him to expect me to expect a reversal so he is going to play it safe yet again.
*-no *based on me simply not wanting to do it or in actually trying to predict the opponent and guessing that he is thinking: "i’m going to risk a reversal because…a.)this is the first time he’s trying the FA, I have no idea what he’s going to really do but in case he does try an FA, I will scare him off early and if not, I lose some life, I’ll risk it while my health bar is up…b.)he has already feinted once, he probably thinks i’m scared to push buttons so i’ll dp his ass (depend. on p. o.)…c.) he used the fa on me once already and had his way with me, i’m going to reversal his ass and bet against his confidence (depend. on p. o.) " \
*-outcome:* 1.) he does nothing. read the opponent wrong, lost a pressure opportunity, next time i'm going to have to double guess and take the history into account. will he assume i'm ticked i missed a pressure opportunity and follow through assuming his uneasiness and therefore read that ahead and DP me or whatever (free get away).....or will he assume i'm going to feint because he assumes that i've taken the latter option into account, therefore he thinks the best thing is to do nothing in which case following through is the best option for me.
2.) he reversals. delicious! punish appropriate to the situation. next time he will more than likely be scared and won't do shit, but he could actually read ahead and assume i'm confident now and will just reversal again and call my bluff.
So yeah sorry if it’s overly or unnecessarily complicated but this is kind of a general frame of reference for me in a matchup and the ‘flowchart’ i use to make my guesses. it can get awfully circular but sometimes it’s good to let that thought process circle once. i’ve had my bluffs called before and it was because i assumed he was scared because he was punished earlier. well even though i eat a reversal or whatever i learn from that and incorporate that when i play that person, he has the balls to call bluffs so i can double bluff, etc, etc.
anyways here are some follow ups to an actual blocked FA level 2, and it all depends on what you think your opponent is going to do or what you’re feeling at the moment.
1.) cr. short short short short xx scissors ( toss in a tic throw in there if you like)
2.) a bnb , cr.jab, cr. short short short, cr.jab st.close jab, etc. etc. (toss in a tic throw)
3.) frame traps like cr.jab, st.close fierce xx scissors, cr.short st.close fierce xx scissors, cr.jab. st.close jab, walk backwards, cr.forward or cr.short xx scissors, etc. etc.
4.) dash up and PPP teleport back.
5.) dash up and nj. roundhouse (you are guessing they are going to try and neutral jump out of your pressure and it’s impossible to do if youre timing your jabs/shorts properly after dashing in
6.) mixing it up intelligently the second time around based on the outcomes of the latter. did they tech your throw or did they not? regardless a good answer to this is a frame trap since you can expect them to expect or at least be on the lookout for a throw at the same place you already threw them or to make that cr.short come out to punish as a counter hit.
