Psychic Hotline: Rose Video Thread

I never said skill isn’t important to have, I said that the skill that you do have wouldn’t help much if you can’t stay focused enough to use it. Big difference there.

Of course learning online and getting experience is important, and someone who comes from a different background like Tekken isn’t going to beat you if they don’t know the game. But if your 15K BP Sagat has no tourney experience and he’s in a tourney with alot of people used to that pressure but maybe a bit less skilled, I wouldn’t count on him to win it.

Amabdul has the right idea.

Fury: in addition to developing tourney nerves, it forces you to adapt quickly to the other player is doing. Let’s say you have to play a match that you practice on XBL all the time, but you end up playing someone who’s shutting down all of the options you are used to doing. You only have two matches to figure them out, so you are forced to become smarter and adapt…or die.

Anyway, in short, tournament experience is simply too much of an important tool not to have, and I’m pretty sure that all of the famous players will tell you the same thing.

But ah Shinkuu.

Let’s not forget that random factor that “online warriors” have.

I can random out shit like no tomorrow. I can shut them down just as much as they shut me down. I have nothing to lose under that pressure.

Top players do.

Not to mention both players have to learn to adapt, it just ends up in the better player because tourney nerves are just there because you are worrying. Just breathe, life will go on win or lose, be respectful and happy and we’ll all be fine.

And I wouldn’t count on the 15k BP to win at all.

But an example of tourney nerves; I’m sure there are examples that show that first timers aren’t really “tourney nervous”; Shine forexample.

Tournament experience is important to have, but learning how to play under pressure becomes natural habit, but learning in depth about your character and his/her match ups is more time. And the quickest way to learn your character to a level is online since you won’t always be out playing street fighter.

Agree to say they’re equally as important?

Rose you’re right, this argument is pointless. Lets agree that we’re all basing our opinions on our own personal experiences.

I play online JUST to experiment strategies and perfect my timing. Once I feel I’ve accomplished this, I go to tournaments to test out my skills (and win money!!!). Because, honestly, I don’t play the game to rank up or to mindlessly play endless mode all day. I bought the game so to play against friends and to attend tournaments! Besides, tournaments are HELLA fun! Sure, there are bound to be a few scrubs there who think their online points mean something. But the majority are experience, veterans, or professionals of the game who make it their priority to win. If you think you’re good enough, why not enter a tournament?

Thus through tourneys, you’re able to network with locally skilled players and you can potentially make money. Also, having your skills recognized locally (and hopefully nationally) is both rewarding and motivating. It’s these tournaments, like Evo, Season’s Beating, ect… that make us a community. Hell, in the end, if you can’t win the tourney you can always play Money Matches. That’s what I do. Make bank after every session i go! Whisperthe strategy is to hunt for scrubs and pretend not to be any good. easy money

I watched the Team Spooky stream last night of Guard Crush 9 and saw Sabin win with Rose. Nice to see that especially with the tournament being character locked.

Hopefully some videos will be posted to Youtube soon.

It was pretty amazing. His game against Aquasilk was SO tense. I’m surprised he didn’t zone more from fullscreen with sparks in the first two games, though Aqua did some bad jumps in the match point round and jumped on like three sparks in a row. Arturo did a lot of LP drills and backdashed immediately at the end but Gief can still reach and SPD. Arturo also ate like three ultras over the course of the games and still won out. Crazy stuff - Arturo has ridiculous reflexes and Rose’s dashes fit him so well…inspirational stuff for us Rose players.

Rose on the contrary shine gets hella nervous during tourneys. I dont let the pressure get to me as much as I used t though.

I couldn’t withstand the epicness from the battle between you and Aquasilk. Towards the end of the second match, I thought you were going to lose. You really turned it around. Zangief is not an easy match-up for Rose…last time I checked, it was 6-4 in Zangief’s favor. His Lariat even beats out EX Soul Spiral, so Rose does not really have very good wake-up options when she’s knocked down particularly against him.

The only reason tournament play plays less of a role in the development of your skills as a competitive gamer is because there’s very few oportunities to play in a tournament. Tournaments aren’t abundant and even if you enter as many as you can you don’t get to play all that much, at least compared to offline or online casuals. You might not get as much out of tournament play because of how few matches you get to play, but I’m sure you get more out of one tournament match that one online match.

I mean it’s really an unfair comparison, since you’re comparing only a sub-category of offline play to online play as a whole. At the end of the day offline > online we all agree on that, there’s no point in comparing one tiny category of offline play with online play as a whole.

More SSFIV videos (I think I’m inundating the thread with a lot of these at this point):

I might record more before the day is done.

Edit: I’ll just make a new post, in order to keep the thread active.

I really need to watch my s.rh…I got hit by Makoto’s and Fei-Long’s Ultra by using it (I was trying to taunt because the Fei-Long user missed, but I ended up doing s.rh, and losing roughly 35-40% of my life).

I remember the days when everyone was saying online was garbage. I guess its only in the West we’ve been taught to believe that. When I watched Godsgarden or when I watch o ShinkuAkuma o 's channel and SpotATrain’s channel on youtube I see so many top japanese players with over 6k PP and over 20 BP. SO not only do they seem to like the online (since no ssf4 arcade yet) but they don’t only play endless with people in their friend list. They either like the challenge of facing a variety of people or they want to prove themselves the best players of their character online.

I guess its me that plays too much, but once you’ve played online long enough, you’ve practically seen every single type of match-up and style of gameplay, that im able to deduce someone, whether it be random or experienced players in 1 match. I know the ultimate goal for everyone is to get into tournaments to win, but you dont need to learn to adapt from just tournaments, you can learn how to adapt at home, either you got it or you dont. Reasons why i dont play endless much, i dont like playing the same people more than twice lol.

uh…isn’t Rose/Gief even? Rose can just zone Gief out unless you slip up and get knocked down. Against gief, you’d want to be either blocking or backdashing on wakeup rather than EX spiraling.

Online still sucks. Japan players get a bit of leeway since it’s not as huge as America but yea. Most of the reason they’re bothering to play it on console is cause AE isn’t out yet. Most people still considering online garbage but when you don’t live on the west coast of America, Japan, or certain other outlets with decent living arcades, what else can you really cling on for competition?

no man youve got it all wrong that kind of mentality ensures you will keep staying free you have to travel in order to get good. online is ok for matchup exp (assuming youre good already and can compensate for online bs…) but 99% of the time theres almost noone ive played online thats been as good as the char specialists ive played offline

also i dont know what the matchup score for rose vs gief is but im like 100% positive its in giefs favor lol especially with option selects which will rape rose

Yea Gief vs Rose is in Gief’s favor that’s one of the hardest matches for Rose, but you were kicking ass with Rose last night Art very impressive wins vs some of Rose’s hardest matches.

I have 4 new videos to add to the 4 I did earlier today.

I have 2 more files that I need to convert and upload, so I’ll do that in the morning. As always, enjoy, and any feedback would be appreciated.

hey guys, i just figured out a pretty nice set up with roses ultra 2. involving the reverse rotation of her orbs

sksksksksksk222 provided a visual for me here.

after that i figured out these 3 set ups that are practical and gives you all the time in the world to space and charge up your lvl 3 focus.

-when someone jumps and you activate U2 for anti, you soul throw them (this saves both your orbs).

-in the corner you can do HP>heavy reflect>U2>soul throw(you save both your orbs and get an untechable knock down with reverse spinning orbs)

-outside the corner you can do HP>heavy reflect>FADC>U2>soul throw with the same results.

Played a set FT5 with Dr.Chaos, i snuck out a win 5-4 , i only uploaded 1 video so far, just bare with me lol

That was a really great Rose vs. Akuma match. It was down to the wire.

I know last night I said that I had two files to convert and upload. Well, the two videos are ready, and here they are:

So today I’m really trying to utilize Training Mode as best as I can, so I can improve. One of the first things I worked on, was p-linking, or plinking.

This is a video showing my attempts:

I’m solely trying to plink her c. lp - c.lk - c.mp - Soul Spiral combo.

Is there some kind of trick in order to get the timing more precise? Sometimes I insert the lp+mp too slow, while other times, I insert it too quickly. I was getting a little more consistent towards the end.
