Psychic Hotline: Rose Video Thread

Vid 1: Use your heavy pokes/combos whenever you can. there were a couple times you went for c.mp to punish something that was a bit too far away for its range. had he been in range, you most likely would’ve had to use EX spiral to get a combo from it. It wouldn’t be so bad too do that, but I tend to save all of my meter for EX spiral reversals.

When Seth spent his super in that 3rd round, it might have been worth it to jump in and take chip damage off of it to possibly build up an ultra. I can’t say for sure you would have built enough ultra meter, but Seth’s recovery time on that is so damn bad, that you probably could’ve punished it better just from being closer to him.

Also if you have a life lead against Seth, feel free to turtle up. That’s the only reason, I can think of, for why you lost that 3rd round; starting specifically at 2:44. It would take a lot of boom chip for Seth to regain the lead, and since you hadn’t spent your ultra yet, there enables many opportunities to catch a player doing desperation tactics; along with mind games such as sliding under booms, or even pressing attack buttons before the booms hit you. It might make him think you’re doing something he can catch with his ultra.

Vid 2: Maybe mix up reflects to make him rethink strategy. I catch a lot of people (not particularly Seth) off guard by doing a sequence of lp reflects, followed by HP or MP reflect. Also you missed a few big damage opportunities like after he messed up a combo and went for the QCB+K move anyway. that move has a lot of recovery on it, and you had an ultra. he whiffed a SRK when you had super also. I’m sure you know what you could’ve done, but I guess I’m reinforcing that.

Seth up close is very tricky. I can’t say you did anything wrong by not using s.MK to counter a SPD, because he could’ve used SRK instead. I suppose backdashing would be your best bet since he’d be thinking of doing one thing to you, while you do something that possibly disregards that. The only thing he could hit you with, if you backdashed, is stretchy arms. but he’d have to anticipate that more than anticipating you’ll stay in place due to the timing.

Okay, since I’m home I actually watched Steve/Saqs now, and man it just makes me angry seeing how shitty the active frames are on MP reflect. That tiger shot was RIGHT ON where I thought it would have worked, three freaking times. And remember that post I made recently about how you time an ultra to grab recovery of a tiger shot, but you get hit anyway? Yep, right in there. Same crowd reaction.

I noticed that earlier on, you got one or two combo opportunities (like a crossup j.MK) and went into one jab, when you could have MP > drilled. Your FADC combos are good shit, but if it were me (just imo here), I wouldn’t take any chances at all against a Sagat like this one. I didn’t see much of that, actually, so you must have figured the same. I’d keep the meter for EXs or possibly a super. One Sagat player near me (Cajunstrike) commented on how Sagat doesn’t have a normal or move to really deal with slide, and you were using it to good effect there, at mid range he has to deal with our pokes for a bit. One good special and we’re back to neutral situations again, which are bad.

Steve is a very smart, very patient player. His downback is strong. We turtle against each other in everything

Indeed Steve is the Sagat d/b king lol. I really think the crappiness of MP reflect against Sagat has something to do with how Tiger Shots are shaped or something. Maybe where the hit box lays? I dont know but I have no problems at all reflecting anything else outside of the occasional slow ass Ken jab FB lol.

One thing for sure I could have done in this match was focus fish more. Since Steve was pretty much in d/b and tech throws mode when cornered, I should have forced his hand a bit by FA threatening. Its risky but what isnt. I also could have been a lot more patient when I had the life lead, just let him chuck shots at me for a while, and neutral jumped/FAd them.

Regardless, the matchup sucks dick :annoy:.

That’s it. FA 3 in front of SAGAT. Best taunt ever.

havent played for a week now so i thought it was time to catch some games

Heh. Focus a Sagat…

Tiger knee is stupid.

I think you’re right about how the shots are shaped. I noticed recently that I tend to reflect them when it looks like I’m doing it too late and it works.

I don’t care if it works. This kind of play is made of lamesauce.

RUSH THAT SHIT DOWN GAWDDAMMIT!!!

I mean zoning is one thing but damn. Even when Steve had golden opportunities to get in he just opted to dash back and throw shots. He didn’t even abuse her wake-up or anything which shows me lacks match-up knowledge and he still won.

Garbage IMO.

Even if he did know, it’s smart to not exert yourself when you know you don’t have to. Lame, maybe, but winning is cool.

I know. It’s just frustrating for me when I busted my ass to perfect my rushdown/balanced style then see Sagat’s pull out wins with no footsies, no frame traps, no mix-ups.

Just Tiger shots, HK, option select tech, some well timed reversals and Sagat’s doomsday combo into Ultra.

Shit makes me just wanna be like…fuck effort…maybe I should just lame it out with tiger shots all day. Why even try hard?

Still not gonna take anything away from Steve. He did what he knew would work and he played well.

Well it just goes to show you how easy mode Sagat can be in certain matchups. The fact that he’s not that hard to win with is one of the reasons he’s the best character in the game.

But you cant take shit from Steve at all. He knows how to win point blank and he’s been doin it for a whlie now.

Steve H >>>>>>>>>>> Anything I’ve seen from you.

That’s cool.

I even said he played well so I don’t get what point you are trying to make.

Anyone watching the match can see Steve H’s extremely simplistic but still effective style. Unfortunately Rose does not have the tools to combat this.

And way to take one word I say out of context. I said the way that particular match played out was garbage. Steve H himself is a great player.

Sooooo…yeah. :coffee:

Didnt know this was out there but heres the winner final match of me & Jibbo at the 10/3 C3 . My lack of impatience and unwillingness to stop pressing shit is obvious here as I get hit with some dumb shit. Awesome showing by him.

Better than I did against him on Saturday. He was my first match in the loser’s bracket, yay…I think that if standing forward was the only normal he had, I’d have still lost. This is only the second time I’ve ever fought him though, both times in tournament, and I won the first time back when he had probably never fought Rose before. He’s gotten smarter with his play, execution is tops, got some new tricks. DP is at least working much harder than Sagat to beat us.

It seems like a hard match…LP spark’s recovery is especially bad in a match where a character has a low/fast jump like that. He got me with a few wall dive kicks too, out of the other fireballs I think? Any punish he gets often leads into another combo/mixup situation. I guess I could have tried jumping at him, but I never like to do that against any character.

I’m glad people are seeing how Gen is actually played now as opposed to what they previously thought, i.e. Crane crossups all day. Never saw that, but it just sounds like an online thing.

Saqs I don’t think you meant “lack of impatience” there ;(

You know what I meant :p.

I dont think its that hard of a matchup honestly. You know he’s gonna jump at some point. The key IMO is to be on point with c.hp (granted which is hard since his jump is so fast) and also to watch for his gdlike focus attempts against your pokes. It also helps to not get caught by mid poke Ultras as I did lol.

But you can abuse him on wakeup if he doesnt have or doesnt use EX Oga to escape and can zone him pretty good full screen with sparks since his jump is short (just watch for him in d/b for wall dive).

On the ground, s.MK can punish blocked drills if not spaced just right tho so that’s something to keep in mind. You dont wanna be up close for too long since he can put you and anyone else in ambiguous crossup hell pretty easily so backdash outta there asap lol.

You know, I agree with you. It’s disgusting how well this works though. No sweat involved and he can do it to pretty much the entire cast of characters. Just for shits and giggles, I was playing Sagat last night and was simply just spamming FB’s, if they jumped in they got an hk or f+hk. If they did get in it was just option select tech or reversal TU/TK…for ten games I did this and not one did I loose  How is this play style entertaining to some? It’s complete and utter boredom…oh and out of those ten games I had probably 4 rage quits…

im usually the same. that and i tend to FORCE myself to make something work even if im constantly getting hit, trying to counter.

In other news, I got top 8 in a local 25-man tourney:

I didn’t bring my camera that day.

Have you guys found ANY Rose videos on nico? I’d like to see some sort of Japanese presence with this character, though the reasons they would want to actually play her are slim. There has to be something.
