That’s an interesting one, with unusual okizeme (to catch backdashers and frame-trap I think), and overall great play from both players. But fasten your seatbelts, if you blink you’ll miss the end… X_X

Or maybe more care with anti-airs. The game was won on a cross-up. In fact most of Guy’s approach game relies on air-mix-ups, which would all lose to well timed HP or EX Soul-throws, if not cHP.
Honestly I think this habit of focus-backdashing jumps is flashy, but it is certainly not the best options outside of wake-up situations. 
But at the other end, it was fast mixed up by the Guy player… and once a Guy is in, it’s extremely difficult to get out, so…
also rose players must be concerned that guy’s throw is very weak. Which is why he relies so much on frame traps. A well timed EX spiral can escape throught his defense (of course don’t try to be so obvious about it)
I think the only thing out of this match worth looking into is that forward throw into HP Soul Spark is an oki setup, though it probably loses to any metered reversal. That was a very sloppy match on both players’ ends if you ask me.
I play a bit Guy too, and I agree in AE his throw game was pretty weak due to his short range .
However :
— It’s now the same range as Ryu, and can be Kara-thrown too
— EX Spiral… the more experienced I get, the less I use it. It’s horrible as a reversal. Yes, it could be used in the middle of guy’s lights strings. But if it happens that Guy is frame-trapping you with sHK, cHP strings or hozantos, you’ll be eating A LOT of damage by trying the EX spiral.
To me, the key of this match-up is zoning Guy at medium range :
— He has a weak footsie game (not comboable cMK, short ranged lights, slow sMK, sMP is shorter ranged than Rose’s)
— His pokes would lose to Rose
— Most of hist mix-ups are from up-close
— Long ranged options are pretty risky on block
He has only three ways to win this :
— To land a jump in (almost impossible against cHP or EX SThrow if Rose is’nt KD)
— To enter a target combo run/flip pressure (Rose’s cMK and slide destroy his cMP)
— To bait Rose into projectiles or punishable things
In other words, if you play safe and have a solid anti-air game, he won’t get in. Bad MU for Guy, IMO. =)
Mmmh, probably Jiban could have done better… but darned, it’s so hard to achieve those ***%¤ ! 1-frame links consistently that it’s understandable to drop some from time to time. And round one was lost because of one failed 1-frame link…
The Guy didn’t played that bad, with good whiff punishes, fast pressure game, and wise ultra’s setups. It’s not that easy to land Guy’s U2 twice in a row.
Now a point blank HP spark frame advantage is +2/+6, meaning on hit you may combo into cMP Spiral, and on block frame-trap with it. But the push-back may be too great. Still an okizeme alternative against non-invincible reversals. So far against backdashes I was going into cHK or fHK, but the first one is pretty risky on block, and the second would lost to throws. Same for MK spiral I think.
Pretty much. I posted my thoughts on Rose v. Guyin the matchup thread but I’ll repost them here.
If you mean Jiban lost because he did not attempt the 1-frame link and went for the easier but more space-dependent link into a hitconfirm cr.LP which he ultimately dropped due to being out of range, then yes, I’d agree. Otherwise, no, a Rose main has no excuse for dropping 1f links, unless they are playing on a bad connection online, which I suspect is the case here. Both players were dropping links and punishes.
I don’t think the Guy player was whiff-punishing cr.MP with slide. He’d have to have amazing reactions for that. His pressure game was mediocre really. I think Jiban shot himself in the face by panicking, which is the last thing you want to do against a frame-trap heavy character like Guy. I’m surprised that Guy chose U2 for this matchup, let alone hit with it. Still, I don’t think Jiban made a good choice by sliding in response to EX Run. Seems like he was expecting an overhead, which would whiff against slide, but he could just as easily block it on reaction and punish. Instead, he slided and ate an Ultra 2 for his trouble. Again, shot himself in the face.
I know the frame data for HP Spark, thank you very much. My problem with the setup is that it’s so highly telegraphed that Guy could have easily punished Rose on reaction with a FA, reversal EX Tatsu or U1 if he had it.
And what’s this about doing cr.HK or Soul Piede as oki against backdashes? Just option-select that shit.

Now that may be the « perfect » occasion to ask the question : how to escape of a shoryuken fadc mix-up ? What’s the better choice ?
— You backdash, you get owned by another DP, but you would avoid throws/lights normals
— Just blocking, you’ll avoid the DP but could get thrown (just like here)
— EX Spiral would beat throws and possibly normals, but not DP
— clMK would beat throw… and it would depend of frame-advantage against normals
So ? What do we do ? What’s the best bet ? =D
PS : My little Rosie got B rank yesterday. I’m probably gonna submit some fights to criticism. Expect funny moments of sloppiness. ^^
