Works perfectly with my HRAP2. I luckily got the last Pelican adapter from my local Gamestop, hopefully I can find one more elsewhere.
I tested Tekken 5: DR and I DEFINITELY feel an improvement in performance. I don’t feel even a slight bit of lag, and I was using the Elecom adapter previously. I can’t wait to test Guitar Hero II!
Did some short testing with the Pelican PS2 to PS3 Adapter earlier today… I gotta say the people at Pelican and PDP did an EXCELLENT job! Good job to you and your crew DreamTR! Hands down the new king of PS3 converters!
My mistake, I was fed a lie. I read up on it a little more and it sounds like you’re absolutely right. Fingers crossed that they tend to this in a future update (preferably the next one).
I just received two in the mail today from EBGames. They work like a charm with my HRAPs on SFA Anthology and Capcom Collections Vol 2 for the PS2. There is no lag and the PS3 picks up the HRAPs without any issues.
i hope this isn’t too bad of a necro, i just want to know if the PS2 game lag has been fixed already. it’s awful. i only have one game for the Ps3 so it gets quite boring without my ONE Ps2 game.
also, i noticed that fubarduck was talking primarily about the HDMI out in his article, but i’m using Component and the lag is still terrible.
I’m the wrong person to ask about this sort of stuff now, but I believe there is still lag with any PS2 game that outputs its image at 480i (almost all of them). I know there are a few that do 480p and I thiiiink the lag is absent on them, but I’m not even sure about that. I don’t have a clue about PS1 games.
Hopefully someone can double-check this for us.
I was originally optimistic, believing that Sony would eventually remedy this in a future firmware update, but now I’m not so sure. The original PS3’s (60 and 20 GB models) are being phased out. They had an “emotion engine” chip inside or something, which essentially meant there was a PS2 inside the PS3 for backwards compatibility (via equivalent hardware). The new 40 GB model has NO backwards compatibility. The new 80 GB model no longer includes that emotion thing… it will apparently only support some titles in backwards compatibility, all via software emulation. Perhaps this problem will not affect the 80 GB model. Truthfully, this is an issue that the majority of their customer base will never notice, let alone care about, so I don’t think it’s anything Sony will ever bother remedying.
Take all of this stuff with a grain of salt, I’m not 100% sure on some of it.
The 80gb PS3 still has the PS2 GPU; it was the EE that was yanked from it (20/60GB has both EE+GS) 40gb has neither, and it appears sony doesn’t want to bother with full software emulation.
Perhaps its time to revive this thread. I’ve recently purchased a ps3 and to my
dismay the Pelican converter appears to be discontinued and the nyko converter
was cancelled.
Is there any converters out there that will work? I’m mainly looking for a
converter that will work with Dual Shock 2 and PS2 arcade sticks.
