I played 3S on my PS3 with my PS2 MAS stick via the Logic 3 adapter, and man oh man is the Logic 3 a piece of shit. If anyone else buys one, let me know so I can slap you. Once you accidentally go left “too much”, the controller goes random as detailed by Rikidozan.
I did manage to do very well at the Sean parry stage, which implies that my setup is generally pretty lag-free (knock on wood!), but generally this is a horrible adapter that was a harder opponent than the CPU. Thankfully after Sony’s latest updates it looks like no one else needs to buy this. Please don’t. It’s really horrible.
Please retry all the “failed” PS2 to PS3 controller adapters, that are lying on your shelf. Since I need some PS2 to PS3 controller adapters for none 3D fighting games.
I mashed until things happened, which is how I got to where figuring out START doesn’t work but SELECT does. I’ll try it again, but — eh, it’s broken. =\
I’ve read some discussion about convertors on Tekken Zaibatsu and Markman said he had had some which work. Try to search, I don’t remember the link - I’ll search it later.
Yeah even my Logic3 converter which drops commands after only 3 seconds, is great for playing VF5 and T5DR. Since VF5 has a guard button so it doesn’t matter and T5DR neutral = guard. Nobody holds LEFT for 3 seconds anyway in a 3D fighting game.
MarkMan’s site is still the best source of information on converters. I have my fingers crossed very tightly in anticipation for the Pelican adapter.
Something neat that made me chuckle at myself: apparently a PS3 firmware patch (1.60?)fixed this problem before I was ever aware of it. (PS2 visuals are now output at the proper resolution.) Cool!
As detailed in agentz’ thread, the lastest firmware update 1.70 has enabled non-Sixaxis controllers for backwards compatibility. You’ll have to go through the actual thread for details on what works and what doesn’t.
My RadioShack (well, The Source now) PS2 to USB adapter still doesn’t work for VF5 unless I enable analog (ie. use a DualShock 2 controller instead of a stick). It does, however, now work for PS2 games. Be warned however, the input is definitely a little laggy. It’s very small, but it only takes a small amount to make a difference. I haven’t tried it with T5DR yet… I have a feeling it will work, but I don’t really care because of the lag.
nope, you don’t have to turn on the analog for bc to work. i’ve noticed that the light doesn’t even come on when 3rdstrike starts like how it usually does when i play on my ps2.
on another note, the pelican adapters are showing as in stock on the gamestop website and there is an updated pic of what they look like.
The light not coming on makes sense; the game can send a command to the controller to change the state. Most USB adapters ignore those commands.
What’s weird is that you say the analog isnt needed for BC, but is needed for PS3 games. The adapter I have uses the hat switch to represent the D-pad when in analog mode, but use the X and Y when analog is off.
Im working on a PCB and have USB support in already (working on regular PSX at the moment). If I can find a ‘perfect’ device (either a stick or a converter) I can copy the descriptor and have it report the exact same way.
Is there such a thing? Is there a stick or converter that works both in BC and PS3 mode, with the same buttons mapped to both? Maybe with a working PS button?
