It’s not just Ferguson’s local police force down there, it’s also the St. Louis County Police force. That’s an entire COUNTY’s worth of officers who are abusing their power.
Nothing I said was incorrect. If you want to get technical, the Ferguson police chief is using a local law to shield a law enforcement agent from possible harm. And I say good on him because he has almost an entire city going after one of his subordinates. As far as I know, him keeping the name under wraps from the public isn’t the same as keeping it from the FBI, who is investigating the matter.
And how the hell do you think government works? They are all separate bodies unless they are federal programs. States, counties, and towns/cities are allowed to create their own rules on how law enforcement is, well, enforced. There’s no national standard. That said, relinquishing control to the FBI or even just the state can, and will, produce radically different results since they are separate entities from one town’s and one county’s police force.
All that may be rendered moot, anyway. The governor just announced he’s going to use his power and shift personnel in that town.
Not shifting power. They are removing the St Louis county police from Ferguson. They assumed they would help the situation, but obviously made it worse.
Asking for FBI to step in, since the feeling is that the current officials can’t be trusted.
militarization of police is just the beginning. now is the chance for small government republicans to rein in these domestic terrorists. oh wait they love the police!
Your argument is all over the place. You are saying “the Ferguson police chief is using a local law to shield a law enforcement agent from possible harm. And I say good on him because he has almost an entire city going after one of his subordinates”. You say that’s good but then in previous arguments you say that the same law enforcement **“not just Ferguson’s local police force down there, it’s also the St. Louis County Police force. That’s an entire COUNTY’s worth of officers who are abusing their power”. ** Also that the same police force is **“trying to set up a warzone. It is no longer about protecting public safety but about protecting themselves from nation-wide scrutiny, something they have failed to do anyway”. ** You are saying that the public is overstepping it’s bounds wanting to know the guy who shot Brown and why, and at the same time police have overstepped their bounds by being corrupt and creating a warzone, but protecting the officer when citizens wants answers. That’s okay because the government has surely no obiligations to provide answers to it’s citizens?
Also, if I am correct you are saying the police have no interest in protecting public safety and that they are corrupt but it’s okay for the corrupt system to protect the officer (who is also apart of that corrupt system) and provide no answers to the public? At the same time it’s being shown throughout the media that the government and police force in that area has little interest in shielding the public from harm since they are trying to set up a warzone as you said. That goes against the whole main function of government. The governments primary job is to protect its citizens. You are obviously correct that there are different bodies of government but the primary function of all governments whether Federal or local is the same. However, the response is typical in cases like this where it takes forever for State and Federal authorities to get involved.
