Protest followed by massive looting in STL

Can someone who is actually there present some non-biased information on what is actually happening there right now?

I would like the same thing, but wishful thinking, given how polarizing events like this are.

Ferguson’s 6 top use-of-force questions: A cop’s response - http://www.policeone.com/use-of-force/articles/7489476-Fergusons-6-top-use-of-force-questions-A-cops-response/

his arguments for the military police equipment kind of fall flat imo. i understand the helmet, or the gas mask i guess, but he doesn’t address assault rifles, or camouflage fatigues. and the school shooting hypothetical is not terribly convincing. has that even been a real scenario? and is an armored vehicle really the only solution?

and this…

just cause there was violence before the roll out of the police paramilitary, doesn’t mean they couldn’t have further escalated it. this simplistic view of cause and effect treats the protestors as some single consciousness that had already decided to turn violent.

@pherai,
I agree with the assault rifles part, but don’t really care about the camouflage fatigues. The ones they have stand out like a sore thumb. Also, anyone who was in the service can tell the difference between the cops and some soldiers in fatigues. I’d be more worried if the fatigues they had actually matched the surroundings. They make fatigues that match concrete side walks, tarmac roads and residential living areas. If I ever saw cops wearing those, then I’ll really fucking panic because at that point they’re “functionally” militarized for war…

Because this kinda shit can NEVER have enough fuel dumped into it…

My apologies if I’m late with this news.

i agree functionally the camo is kind of pointless, so all the more reason for them not to have it. uniforms are meant to identify police as police so i see no reason for them to dress like they are in the military. ill be more on edge seeing law enforcement in camo even if it doesn’t blend into the surroundings. i can also see it making it a bit more difficult getting id for a particular officer if hes wearing a military uniform + helmet and gasmask, and many of the media accounts of the first days of ferguson had police seeming extremely reluctant to identify themselves.

I got pulled over by a cop wearing tactical gear in a town of 1000 people, I nearly laughed at him because he looked so stupid. What a clown.

Police officer suspended after branding Ferguson protesters ‘rabid dogs’ - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/11052666/Police-officer-suspended-after-branding-Ferguson-protesters-rabid-dogs.html

Thats like, the third officer that wanted protesters to die

Don’t worry guys they are just isolated incidents not a job with a retarded culture.

But even if it was just a few bad apples then why are bad apples attracted to this line of work lmao.

It is no shocker all these officers are getting exposed like this. SMDH. The inferiority and superiority complexes are strong with these men. The states, and the federal government havent really held officers to any strict standards for decades, for many obvious reasons, and some not so obvious. Now so many of them are mad they are getting exposed via recordings, whistleblowers, etc… Maybe try not being an evil fuck, and you wouldnt have anything to worry about.

Dumb fucks. Where did police corruption get you? Where did political corruption get you? Where did white supremacy get you? Where did hiding religious truths get you? The list of questions go on. Those 4 ideals were all doomed to fail, and it was obvious they were, but people kept at them for what end result. White supremacy, success in some ways, but a huge failure still, with the last generation of the majority of prejudice and racist dying out within the next 10-20 years with our parents. The grandparents are about done. Police corruption, i guess successful in tossing tons of black men into prisons and jail for stupid shit, but now you have 2 generations of people of all colors coming up that have little to no trust in officers in general. Hell, i see more white people protesting against law enforcement, and getting hella rowdy then black people in this country. The very people this country tried so hard to protect, and ensure its superiority over the colored masses, has now begun to turn on you, and sympathize closer to the struggle of those people you fought so hard against.

Sometimes you wonder if its just fate. That humanity had to become advanced enough in various ways, culturally, and especially technologically, so we can come to a tipping point where it all just changes rapidly. Those ideals of the past were always doomed to fail, because they were so flawed to begin with.

The worlds fucked up ideals right now are only dependent on people choosing to be dumb. I understand that in some countries its harder to break out of the mold because they are poor countries, who cannot just google all their questions from their touch screen phones, walk down the street to the local library and read for hours for FREE, or even get any level of decent education from their schools. With that said, we have a responsibility in a nation like ours to the people of the world to be better, to be smarter, more knowledgeable, and spread that knowledge as much as we can. We do an injustice to ourselves as a species to stay stupid and scared.

Please let this be the case that sets the precedent. Please god or the police have absolute power.

Shooting The Unarmed Man – The Fallacy Of Modern Perception - http://ross-elder.com/2014/08/11/shooting-the-unarmed-man-the-fallacy-of-modern-perception/

Check out the comments section.

Seems like something is missing from this story. It’s pretty strange that it’s not even mentioned that the boy was unarmed or armed. It’s even stranger that three police officers seemingly shot him for no reason, outside of responding to a call of a man with a gun. Other than that, this story is full of holes of either the news station didn’t report some things or the police haven’t released any information. I wouldn’t jump to conclusions just yet.

Here’s the New York Times’ “apology” letter: http://publiceditor.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/08/25/an-ill-chosen-phrase-no-angel-brings-a-storm-of-protest/?smid=tw-share

I guess I should have been more clear in why I don’t care much about camo. I’m former military, currently in security and the wife went to some law enforcement college program (she takes the exam for her local police station next month.) What I know about organized law enforcement is that there are a couple levels to it. The first is regular uniformed law enforcement. The second is disguised law enforcement. Finally there is optimized law enforcement. There are more, but this is the really simple version. Though the officers have on camo, they are still under the uniformed law enforcement category. Things aren’t actually that escalated yet. They are making a statement with the uniforms. Its kinda like when a cat puffs up to look bigger. They are saying, “hey, we look militarized, so don’t make us act militarized.” I know if seems excessive, but this is actually good for the people. They are trying to say back down before shit gets real, but without saying it (they could easily have received the proper gear to slaughter civilians with the fewest casualties to their force and gone out to use it first.) I know they have the weapons, which is why I agreed with your statement on the weapons, but the camo doesn’t make them anymore what they are. With that point, my concern becomes elevated when I imagine that if the people fight back or if officers feel endangered, they may want to become more difficult to target, therefor functionally blending in with the environment (imagine officers in street clothes, others in building colored cam on roof tops with snipers, full riot gear not straight black but tarmac colored, blindingly shiny ponchos the match concrete when the sun doesn’t hit it and when the sun does you can’t look that direction and there’s more.) If the police were actively avoiding targeting, that means that their safety is being threatened and instead of a few bad cops being ready to open fire, all cops will be ready to protect themselves and their fellow officers (including the scumbags in their force.) If all officers convert to camo I wouldn’t really care, cops have gone from blues to blacks and their leaders have gone from wearing similar uniforms with higher rank to wearing different colored uniforms from the lower leveled officers. Things change and we deal/adapt. What hasn’t changed is the fact that ready for war isn’t looking like a soldier, its ready for war…
