Just upgraded to hardy heron and it’s time for my “light” phase of desktops.

Looks nice. I was thinking about installing that too, but I dunno.

Is there any clear advantages of using Ubuntu over Windows?

you have far greater control over your operating system with linux. the advantage with windows is that you get all the windows software and third party support. linux is really customizable and fun, but will require a bit of work and technical knowledge. its not very user-friendly as you dive deeper into the OS.

Hmm. Sounds like fun [learning the OS]. Thanks for the heads up.

Lots.

[LIST]
[]Speed. On any hardware, ubuntu is faster.
[
]Flexibility. You can easily customize your computer to how you want it. Don’t want or like a program, there are plenty of alternatives.
[]Peace of mind. There bascially zero virus/spyware problems for ubuntu as malware writers target windows as it’s the most popular platform.
[
]Easy to get updates/programs. You don’t have to hunt around on google to find the app you are looking for. There is a centralized server where you d/l everything from. These programs are certified by ubuntu themselves to be safe and stable. Your updates roll in as soon as they are available, and they install on the fly, no reboot required. You can use extrenal sources if you like, they are simply added to the list, which you can search just like google, so if i wanted say a bluetooth app to tranfer files to/from my phone, I would type “bluetooth” and all the apps relating to that are presented.
[]New OS twice a year  Ubuntu keeps itself up to date by releasing a new version every april and october. So all the latest and greatest features will be accessible if you want them.
[
]Most of all, it’s FREE, you never pay a single penny for any software from ubuntu, and it has the most friendly support you could ever ask for. Head over to www.ubuntuforums.org to find out more.

linux sucks

This caught my eye. I don’t worry much about viruses or anything, but that peace of mind is nice to have.
