Portland Ranbats!

LAG son

We’ll figure it out when I get there I guess? It’s all good and I’ll have Tio this time.

figure you out.

My system runs pegged at 60 fps, I left framerate display on for a few days and never saw it even flicker, so I turned it off. I am not surprised at all that it felt off to you on my system because this is a pretty much ZERO latency setup which is going to have the same effect as being latent, just in the opposite direction.

Okay we are MOVING ON!, there is nothing wrong with anything down there at versus, if there is something wrong to you, its more likely a relatively small personal preference made into a huge deal because YOUR personal preference, which is really in the big picture of it, is a personal problem.

If it aint about ranbat’s, exit stage left with it.

O snap BURN!!! lol. I personally wouldnt come out and say that but i cant say i disagree.

I really enjoyed last nights 2 vs 2 tourny. Me and Simon made a bad ass team. If I lost my match he would comeback and win it for us and vise versa. Although BBH beat us both and sent us to losers as well as in grand finals but I dont count that. Wheres my 2 star handicap fool? lol. Go Team RamRod!!!

Results!

Currently: No special event scheduled as far as Ranbats next week so come to Versis and get all of your friendlies and casuals in! Expect discussion over the next week regarding the beginning of our first official season of Ranbats.

This is all in good faith and in the interest of preserving fair competition, so no offense is meant to anyone here. This is partially my responsibility to reply to because I have a special interest in the input to output latency issue and I am interested in trying to help other people that have expressed concerns with frame or lag issues. This is because I am a game developer ad I have a deep understanding of how they have changed and operate over the many years. Especially when it comes to latency and input latency.

About Versis, I’ve never outright said anything was wrong with anything personally, although I have seen others make general statements about “lag” or “frame dropping”, I did say however that I detect a difference between my system (PC) and Versis (PS3/XB360) and it messes with my game, so I want to research it before actually saying outright that there is something wrong. I have made that pretty clear to most everyone that I have talked with about it, and if I say I feel it, it’s there. I am an expert on latency and I can prove it, as are most players of video games whether they focus on it or not.

For the record, I would definately say that if you haven’t played on my system or any PC version for that matter that you have no right to say whats right, wrong, or different in that particular situation, so it would probably help to ask questions of other people’s situations rather than assuming they are some product of a personal preference. Just because you don’t percieve it doesn’t mean other people don’t.

I prefer to base my judgements on measurements (i.e. reality) rather than simply my personal opinion that everything is A-OK.

In my case this is 100% about the ranbats. Since their inception they are all that I am currently interested in at Versis when I go to play. In my particular case, the ranbats are the direct reason why I am going take these comparisons between my system and Versis.

I am sure other people will benefit from the information, so let’s try to be intelligent and civil about it and gather the factual info before we say that it’s “more likely” a personal issue. That doesn’t hold much for anyone but malice and it’s not a very sporting attitude to represent to the players in your community in my opinion. If you have extra knowledge and expertise on the issue of latency that lets you see just how silly it is for other players to be curious about it then that information would be best used if it were shared with us and not reserved as grounds to judge other people on.

Remember people, it’s a two player game and you need human opponents so let’s keep the dissing and bad vibes out of the game. If there’s a problem it’s up to us all to figure it out and solve it.

As far as all that camera stuff and testing goes from my other post, I did get footage of both machines last night and I think they do show a visible difference from station to station at Versis but I want better footage before being 100% sure. If anything it will at least put things in perspective as far as input-to-screen-draw latency.

We had a station set up for SF4 casuals, along with one for 3S and a KOF12/VF5 station. Please refrain from making statements like this, we still want a casual atmosphere at Versis for those who do not wish to take part in the ranbats. Not everyone is that competitive, and ranbats are far from obligatory to enjoy Fight Nights at Versis.

Oh sorry, not really what I meant to imply, bad phrasing on my part. Fixed.

Thanks!

… This is where you turn a lot of people off boss. You have this uppidty sense about you that you know more then everyone else and you knowledge being what you think. You think your PC is the standard of SF4 should be because you pretty much think your computer is a miracle made by God and nothing is wrong with it. While i have had many folks really disagree with it.

Anything that has complained about as far as SF4 and lag has been tested and already confirmed a long time ago. There is like a .02 frame difference after a long time of play if that. Weather you wanna you want to argue this or not, there is probably some difference in your PC as well. There is no difference in between one t.v. to another at Versus seeing that they are the exact same t.v…

You need to just slow your role right now boss. Your comming off ass a uppidity guy that knows it all and can prove nothing. It comes out when you talk about this subject, it comes out when you talk about SF4, pretty much anything to due with competitive gaming. Whats worse if you really think about it, this whole subject about lag started from a pad player using a wireless controller, like that will EVER be perfect.

Versus will always play the same way regardless of what you think and what you find from your testing. I can honestly tell you, NO ONE WILL SWITCH TO PC. EVER. that simple. Either the people adjust to what they think is lag, or move on, cause right now its MAYBE 2 out of 20 players that have a problem. to be straight up more honest, you got a lot more to worry about in SF4 and games then weather or not the screen you are playing on has lag or not. you can look at this personal attack or whatever but im just being mad real and if i really wanted this to be a personal attack, it would have been way worse then i have typed.

You can reply to this if you like but let that be the end of it, and the whole subject, just keep in mind, NOTHING will change.

Heh, man. You peeps be derailing the fuck outta this thread. Keep the rest to PMs ya’ll.

Shieeeet.

There’s nothin’ goin’ on next week as far as Ranbats are concerned, so we can all chill and get some good casuals in.

I thank you for this opportunity to address a common misconception that happens to me.

I have misrepresented myself yet again it seems. I never asked for or expected anything to be changed, just want to find out for myself what the difference is because it messes with my game. I take pride in what I do and the details therein, it may seem uppity to you but I certainly don’t think I am better than anyone.

As far as knowing everything and proving nothing, the whole point of my posts was to say that i know nothing but am trying to prove something, if only to myself, so I guess I failed to communicate that. I’m not saying I know anything at all but I do feel something and I made it pretty clear that I am just trying to get some data on it. Not Uppity. Don’t think my machine is godlike. Just see something I need to test, and believe in it enough to follow through.

My apologies if I seem like a prick to you or anyone else, I don’t really feel internally the way most people perceive me to be treating them. All my life people have said the same kind of thing to me and I have never been able to escape it, it’s just the way I am I guess but I never really mean to come off that way. I really don’t want it to haunt me here in this community, I respect you all and I need opponents as bad as anyone so I really have to say that I know what you are talking about when you call me uppity but i don’t really know how to fix it. It’s not how I really feel, no man is an island and I would ask that if I say something offensive try to look past it and realize I mean no offense.

When I get the data and it proves the setups are all three identical, I will accept you laughing in my face with good humor, because I deserve it, and I will laugh at myself. I also have to investigate it for myself to be able to believe it, because it just feels different to me and its not mental. I don’t expect anyone to care even then, I just want to know what i am dealing with so I can adjust a little faster or make some use of the information. Sorry for all the trouble. R.Panda, I feel like this is not just a 2 person thing so I leave it out here. Thank you for the offer to reply and be done, i have taken that and done the best I could with it, see you guys Thursday. I take none of this as a personal attack but only keeping it real and I am trying to do the same.

On Lag issues.

I don’t know if its because i was COMPLETELY off my game or had a severe lack of sleep (11 hours across 3 days) but it did feel like last night the PS3 was giving me a little bit of lag. It felt a bit different than it did before, but then again I’m bombed ass tired so I don’t really know…I mean hell I threw crouching fierce punches for some strange ass reason when they were supposed to be TS’s (FUCK OCTAGATES)

On the issue of PC vs 360 vs PS3

I prefer PS3 the most out of any system and there are a couple reasons why.

  1. Its the standard that is being used at EVO and even non-arcade japanese tournaments. Granted, there is lag when I’m busy NOT EARNING A TROPHY, but its still best to learn on the system that IS being used in the biggest tournament in America.

  2. PC - lots of BSOD cases. 360 - Lots of RROD cases. PS3 - Not many YLED cases. (granted thats because it probably wasn’t as wide spread as the RROD.

But all in all, NO SETUP will be identical. I’m sure my Acer 23" with PS3 will be different from my 42" Samsung HD TV which will be different from Versis’ 60" Samsung. HELL, At NWM I had to play on a fucking 14" CRT and lemme tell you…when you jam a widescreen game onto a crt, you get FUCKED! ><

But at the end of the day, no setup will EVER be the same.

On the issue with RanBats.

I honestly think DE is going to work out the best, we just have to limit it to 16 people.

But something else needs to be said on the issue with tournaments. If you’re in a tournament, don’t leave and go play casuals. I mean fuck, I got GGPO’d and still was there recording (which really fucked up time for me to practice). If you want to play casuals, thats great, but check with the TO or the brackets to see just where you might line up.

Personally, for me to be able to get better, I would rather have BBH or Jetay kick my ass in 15 straight games, then tell me what I’m doing wrong and what to fix/practice up on, and I honestly think that would help a lot of people is getting the top players and just letting them teach. I know you can’t teach years of experience, but having somewhere to start is a good thing.

I respect the Quarter Play format at Versis, but I honestly am not going to learn shit from playing one game, losing, then waiting for 5 other people to play. And I’m not going to learn much more from reading threads on here and then going into training mode. CPU’s do stupid shit. Training dummies don’t do shit at all.

Yeah, I can land Sagats TU>FADC>Ultra 95% in the game, but I can’t land it at all in PvP games…probably because of nerves but still.

i agree, im not all that hardware/software savvy but it seems to me that the bottom line is adaptation. nwm did feel weird but w/e i knew i wasn’t going to be playing on my tv.

lol i agree with this too, thats how ive always learned - getting rolled until i put two and 2 together.
tips and advice always help too and for a player to be familiar enough with your game to give advice will usually gonna take more then 1 game.

Edit: and single elimination with best 2 out of 3 matches seems to be the fastest which i would think chanchai would appreciate. maybe could even do 3 out of 5 rounds? just to add that little extra game time but still keep it quick. id be fine with 2/3 rounds and 1 game tho lol im not that picky i just hope everyone is happy with the final set up including the venue, after the first season is behind us we may be able to find/agree on another more open space to hold the ranbats and then expand the options of how it can be run.

That is exactly how I feel as well, which is why I am trying to get one of the top 5 guys in on my saturday sessions to beat us all down and then lift us all up. It’s a system that works.

As far as the game systems all being different, I agree with that 100% too, I think it’s obvious that is the case, and I am only trying to compare my setup with the console setups using video because they feel so drastically different to me.

I have said outright that in the end I expect that the key is just to adapt and I have said exactly that to all the people I have discussed it with, but I am still going to do the research because it’s directly related to my profession and I have a personal curiosity about the whole thing.

Knowing is half the battle, lol.

donde esta los videos del ranbat???

jajajajajajajajaja.

This. Also, anyone going nuts over mad Super SF4 hype like I am?

Word. Tomorrow will be the most important day of this month for a lot of people.

For Capcom, it will be Tuesday.
