I thought it was the 360 that dropped frames…
Everybody has differing opinions about which (if either) system has latency/dropped frames/etc. Sabre and CigarBob’s thread and videos help towards the idea that there are no differences but people still have their ideas. Preferences will be met as much as possible and in case of discrepancy we will go to coin flip.
Im just sayin, thats the dumbest request and reason i have seen sense that guy requested to make sure that Akuma's Voice was on JAPANESE before the start of the match. There is no difference in games between PS3 and 360, just execution.
If it makes you feel any better, I’ll EX fireball with ryu from full screen. j/k :-p
As I said, despite evidence to the contrary there are still debates about this. Also, IIRC, Xeris is a 360 pad player and it was a detriment to him that he played on PS3 last week. It would’ve been on 360 automatically last time if it hadn’t been for Xeris obliging the fact that his opponent was Alix (a PS3 pad player). In this case it’s more likely to be contributed to execution on the foreign 360 pad but still. I may be wrong or confusing him with one of the other newcomers as far as being the pad player, though.
As long as you know how that always works out for you, go ahead boss!
I can’t play Ryu worth shit haha. gotta get Sagat and Chun down first. Playing on XBL is so fucking annoying/bullshit

2v2 tourney would be funny and cool. Should really be Pokemon style, though. And single elim.
the test that was posted up in the SRK forums showed that the xbox 360 was minutely faster(only evident after like 2 straight minutes of neutral jumping), i havent seen either version drop frames except at the end of the match if it ends with an ultra’s cut-scene. but that was awhile ago there may be new examples now.
Well I will admit that I was one of the guys that was pushing and lobbying for last week’s competition to be on PS3. My thinking at the time was:
a) Alix was favored to be Top 2 at that time and he was used to PS3 pad. BBH was still favorite, but he’s fine playing on either station.
b) If in the weird case there was a difference between the two systems, most likely BBH would probably agree to play on PS3 against Alix, and in a super tiny way that could be an advantage to Alix if he was playing his matches on PS3 all the time, and BBH hadn’t–if they were to meet in the final.
c) While now it’s more clear that some 360 pad players, really have trouble with the PS3/PS2 pads (I think mainly because thumbs get scratched up on D-Pad if you’re not used to it)… I still think it’s far easier going from a 360 pad (no offense, but… BLEH!!) to PS3 pad, than vice versa. But that is my bias, and I will openly admit that I personally think the 360 is a great 3d pad, but an awful 2d pad you really have to work around—but yes, the evidence shows there are people profficient at playing with the 360 pad.
That said, I’m not saying next time has to be on PS3 or anything. But I wanted to own up (and not shove Pasqual under the gaze of 360 pad players) and say that I did personally lobby for him to focus on PS3. That said, I think he did try to get people to play on 360 when possible (I fought Holy on 360 since he also needed to use 360 pad). And I think your matches that weren’t with Alix were 360.
For the record, you played great in that match against Alix! Certainly far better than could with a 360 pad (I’ve seen him try lol).

P.S. When you were talking about dropped frames, were you talking about literally dropped frames… or are you talking about that once or twice in a night occurance on PS3 HDMI where the video goes strobing (flickering) for 3-4 seconds and the game looks like it’s in slow motion (though it’s actually normal speed I think)?
Oh yeah… really tired after working almost non-stop from 6am-3am. Was one crazy long day, but I do feel damn productive and ready to rest (sadly, another long day tomorrow).
Xeris said he was native to the 360, but fine with whatever system we needed him on, so his match with Alix was on PS3. He did play his other matches on 360 when possible, as you know. I think we did the best we could. It’s too bad there aren’t any good 360 to PS3 adapters out. (or vice versa)

I thought the only time the PS3 would “drop frames” would be if it was doing that YOU DID NOT EARN A TROPHY bullshit that happened at EVO. Otherwise both versions feel identical to me, never had any problems going from one to the other
also, this
2v2 should not be pokemon style because you could get ocv’s and one teamate wouldn’t get a chance to player and the point of the other style was to get everyone to play.
edit: anything bigger than 2v2 should be pokemon style for time restraints
sbo pokemon style. Make that shit 3 on 3 as well
i think everything would be fine on the frame dropping if all things were set to native settings
not to mention things don’t lag on SD tv’s
What frame dropping are you people talking about. If you turn off ps3 smoothing there wont be any frame dropping.
Agreed. I should be there around 7:30 or 8, and I am totally down for a team tourney.
You guys need to quantify what Xeris is saying before passing judgement on it, like for example Nick has the right idea by asking what is meant by dropped frames. Is that the correct terminology for what is being described or is it an attempt to communicate a percieved problem that may not actually be dropped frames but some other sort of timing irregularity? I personally notice a large timing difference between my house and Versis but it fades as I play. I am very sensitive to time based things being a musician and martial artist and if I am feeling a difference, it is definately there.
What that timing difference between my setup and Versis is exactly I do not know, but it is what needs to be determined FIRST if anything is going to be done about it or any discussion is to be had about it. The main thing is to know that it is there waiting to be measured and I have some ideas on how that could be done.
The best thing I can think of right now would be to use the same camera to record a fireball from the same character on all three platforms and INCLUDE THE INPUT MOTION on the video so that we can take the timing from the very last physical input and get an accurate measurement from button contact to fireball release. Those could be compared to at least show if there is actually a timing difference or not. I will snag my wife’s camera and try to get this done tonight.
Versis feels the same as at my own home, and I don’t have a super fancy HDTV. You’re set up honestly felt kind of off, and I think you should turn on fps to make sure it’s always running at 60. I mean, if you can, I don’t see why not.
And there’s only one common definition for dropped frames that I know of.
