I feel like the hori sticks are made by fisher price or something, they’re so small.
I can replace parts! LoL
and Gray Fox, its not that they’re so small, its that the way they’re built makes them feel cheap. Mostly because of the stock Mattel (joking) parts that Hori uses
The ONLY thing I dislike about the Hori sticks is their inability to stay in place on my lap. I feel like I’m throwing all around, and have to concentrate on my stick’s position as much as my character’s. They just need some weight and/or rubbing padding on the bottom. I’m very happy with the parts themselves, actually.
sounds like a pretty good idea, what specific sticks do you have in mind?
then again i barley have money to make it to versis let alone buy a stick lol… but i could come up with a little to donate im sure.
edit: also id say that those hori stick are entirely too small imo, but i could see that not being the case for everyone
edit 2: Again, when are the ranbats starting? Ive heard less and less discussion about them here on srk, being broke and not able to make it to versis every week i probably dont have the most recent info on the situation, so im wondering at this point what HAS and has not been established/agreed upon outside the forums. And an idea of when its going to start(because i will need to save up $ if i want to actually compete).
the last i heard double elim wasent really an option and there was debating between single elim and round robin? id still say single elim with 3/5 games is a fair compromise.
Looking at the beginning of November but I’m not sure. I wanted to give round robin a month of testing but the first week of October was a week off after three straight weeks of competition, the second week only a couple people were even interested in it and it didn’t happen, and now I’ve missed the the third (and soon to be fourth) weeks. Overall I still think single elim biweeklies are our smartest option but I need to have a discussion with people and see what’s up.

2 TE sticks for PS3 should suffice. These have been coming down to $99 on sale at Frys once in awhile.
2 Modded SE’s would be great too.
I should first clarify that I was joking about the Alix fund…
I’m honored and I very much appreciate Ray’s proposal for helping Versis get TE sticks that can be used in the store. It would be for the better for the Fight Nights.
That said, I think such a project should be phrased as “Portland Community Sticks” which can be held at Versis or Game Trader or anywhere you guys trust to hold it and it would be available for the community to pickup (authorized people) and drop off and all. Much like how PSU’s Random Select set some equipment aside in the past.
Should also be noted that the current PS3 sticks were donated by both Ray and myself to Versis. The 360 sticks donated by myself and those things are not cheap…
But all that said… it’s still tough to ask community members to all pitch in to a fund… aside from maybe something like a dollar set aside from random people each week until you get enough money. But right now, everyone does have their situations and I wouldn’t like them to feel pressured to give in more money…
And for sure, I greatly appreciate the community’s generosity as it has been, letting strangers play on their arcade sticks and what not. As common and normal as it seems in this community, it’s not generally common behavior. Gotta love our community!
Heck, I know the price increase at the Fight Nights was tough for some people–but that’s also why I actually haven’t refused a $6 request yet, at least not seriously refused it. We had to raise the price though and also set what I would consider a more fair market value, but we are trying to make sure that those that need the break are likely to get it.
I’m willing to loan my HRAP 3 PS3 stick that I have to Versis. I’ve been looking to sell it but haven’t made that much an effort to sell it. It’s not that great of a stick imo but it’s something. Haven’t used it in months and I don’t have a ps3.
To be honest, I’m probably going to be the only one to say this: I don’t think 10$ is unreasonable at all for fight night. I used to spend this anyways when I went to Gameworks in seattle, and it was a much crappier environment.
That being said, there seems to be a lot of versis people that aren’t working right now so 10$ can feel like a lot. Frankly, I’m considering getting a part time job while I go to school just so I have some money.
Yeah, I feel the same way. Ten dollars for what fight night offers me doesn’t feel terrible at all, it’s only a pain because of my current financial situation, which is worse than it’s ever been, lol. Hopefully that changes soon. but eh. This isn’t really the right thread for this talk though, you might want to comment in the Versis thread if ya want.
Oops, I thought this was the versis thread for some reason, my bad. Conversation had sort of derailed that way and same people in both threads talking lol.
good to know, yeah round robin does sound intriguing and probly the best option for people who cant always make it there without fail.
This. It seems like everyone I know is in the worst financial situation they have ever been in. Here’s to hoping things turn around soon.
so where do we stand now? haha… we need a new centralized place
Yeah totally. Any chance of the day moving to friday?
well atm we dont even have a place to play so id say thursday isnt the set day, and i doubt we could really set one until we find a place and hear they’re rules
I haven’t played the new Tilt setup, but I honestly think it sounds pretty good for a Ranbat setup.
You have standard controls (everyone is playing on the same stick and buttons), the price should really work out if everyone pitches in and plays on time, and it’s in a nice public environment.
Let’s say it takes 4 hours (for a high estimate) for 15 people. That’s $30 divided by 15 = $2 a person. Pretty good deal, especially for the high estimate which probably assumes double elimination, meaning $1 per match at worst.
And here’s a possible kicker: Let’s say you don’t use the full 4 hours… The remainder could go to the winner or could be saved by a trusted treasurer, documented, and used towards the next Ranbat or put in a pot for a season end prize.
The only thing that bites Is I probably won’t get to record with my new setup haha. I’ll be testing this set up at home next week or something once I get my audio board so HOPEFULLY I’ll be able to stream/record the Survival Kombat AND there is a 99% chance commentary will be doable. I get my audio mixer.
But just because we lost a potential venue does not mean ranbats will die.
I have been thinking about it, I could host the ranbats at my house 10 players at a time but more than that would require time and reconfiguration of my entire game room. Maybe if there are 20 participants I could setup two days to do this, Saturday and Sunday, and we could split it ten and ten. I am interested in doing this if anyone cares, nothing beats FREE right??
Also, I have cameras, microphones, and a mixer and all that stuff so we could easily stream and commentate the matches from my house without needing any extra gear, if that is something people want to do.
Sounds great. I will check this outtttttttt
