Where have you been? And is all that red rep new or was I not paying attention before? Trying to talk about Smash on here again?
I think all the red had to do with a thread where Xeris suggested parries in SSF4 and everyone went ape shit on him and said that he was a dick for suggesting parries and how parries are the downfall of society and he should be crucified for even suggesting it. It was very insane.
I just got a new job in Portland so I’ll be more mobile now, since I’m not taking a van pool up from Salem anymore. I’m pretty much up for anything at this point with the ranbats. What exactly is the new Tilt setup btw?
They aren’t?
they aren’t.
if anything they teach people to form better tactics and be more adaptive to situations.
only scrubs/people that cannot adapt complain about parries.
oh man we’re getting some heated 3s shit lol.
I never played 3s enough to really form an opinion about parries, but I thought it was lame how everyone ate Xeris alive just for suggesting it in a future version of Street Fighter 4.
That Tilt cab might be interesting for Ranbats if the buttons work…
I’m sorry to derail the thread by going into this, but I really want to at least drop one post on this issue. (but the thread is pretty fucked anyway with no ranbats happening so meh)
The things that were implemented in 3s were made to solve general complaints/issues in previous incarnations of the series. They may have not necessarily have been implemented WELL or correctly, but the problems were still there.
Parries were made to solve the issues of fireballs/projectiles being way too powerful and making characters that couldn’t get past them garbage. Also shuts down bullshit where characters can spam certain moves infinitely with the opponent having no way out.
UOH was implemented I’m guessing because there wasn’t much incentive to block standing. Low block covered both high and low attacks, and jump ins/command overheads telegraphed too badly.
Superjumping/dashing again was made for characters to have more mobility and decrease the chance that fireball spam or general spam of any move would be effective.
Normals building meter I have no idea who implemented that or why. Perhaps they thought it would decrease special attack spam or all the nerfs to special attacks would necessitate normals building meter for anyone to ever see a super in a match. I’m not really sure.
While I agree parrys are a low risk-high reward, if you can’t formulate a strategy that isn’t easily predictable or that relies on simply spamming the same shit over and over again, then you’re not really that good at mixing up or adapting. People say 3s or SF3 in general deviates from the core ideals of SF, but frankly people would complain if they didn’t make changes too. You’re either milking a franchise by rehashing or you’ve “lost touch with the heart and idea of the series”.
At any rate, if you don’t like it, no one is forcing you to play it. If you get a raging hardon from being tiger shot spammed in the corner til chip takes you down, good for you. Just don’t expect everyone else to feel the same.
Yeah, I’d agree with that. It’s like how everyone said “Capcom, you’re using the same damn characters for every Street Fighter. We want a bunch of new people!” and then when they released SF3, everyone was like, “Where’s Dhalsim?! Eff you, Capcom.”
well hopefully we can get some good news about Ranbats soon, there was a guy talking about his venue in VFC http://virtuafightclub.ning.com/forum/topics/tournament-hosting-help no one else responded so i havent heard anymore info from the guy
I been trolling around and have seen all the talk about having big events. On that note, I think another big reason cali and NY events are so successful is because they have BIG names attend their events. Both from their hometown and out of state. We have some very talented players here but no big names. Socal and NY put out new vids all the time on the net so they have hella exposure. We need to do the same. If we have ranbats every week, not only will we level up and get better as a community, we can post new vids and give our top guys the exposure they need and deserve. Players go to tournaments hoping to meet, play with, or defeat top players. Hell my highlight of NCR was when my Ryu beat Mike Ross’s Honda 1 round . Lets get these ranbats going and make make PDX the next socal!!!
Its not the ranbats though that is going to make us better. IMO its more that we all need to be playing and learning from one another.
And we also need to start heading to Seattle so we can train with the peeps up there.
^ definitely true but i dont agree that “ranbats wont make us better” ranbats are just an excuse to get all of our locals together and playing together same as tournaments which we could use more of. the more we band together like a team and level everyone up the more potential everyone has to grow into stronger players imo at least. more seattle and cali exposure is definitely a necessity.
ATM the only reliable and free places to play from what i can tell are Jermoie’s house on Saturdays and PSU on Wednesdays, i for one am gonna make a goal to make it to PSU more often since i already attend Jermoie’s every Saturday, i know we also have GK especially on last Wednesdays but imo we need more weekly open environments to band together and learn in.
^ My thoughts exactly. Ill be at GK tonight. Hope to see some of you there.
I think one begets the other. The more unity we have as team portland the more inclined we are to get competitive or do things as a group, like travel to other places.
Just my thoughts. Slash you need to make it to Jeromies. I need to rematch your dan.
My DAN IS SOOO AWESOME!
I’ll see how everything lays out since I’ll be finished with school this term next week.
Also you’ll have to play my dan when I’m really tired because I just do bullshit shenanigans that make NO sense at all
So who’s showing up to TW in Seattle this Saturday?
I wish =/
I got finals next week so this weekend is definitely a no go
whats TW?
