The cops aren’t helping with that perception when they keep lying and keep getting caught lying. It’s why those of us in shitty neighborhoods treat cops like gangbangers because they might as well be.

you are the one who thinks that the dispatcher (who was told by the caller several times) did not need to tell the officers that the gun is fake, and that even if they were told that the gun was fake, you think they still would have acted the way they did (drive by shooting). Tell me dumbass, when their suspect was sitting and kicking his feet like a child, unaware of a police car headed towards him, don’t you think the police should have scoped him out and proceeded to position the car from a distance, where they could shield themselves and have their guns aimed at him, and shouted directions to him so that he could have the chance to surrender? And if they taken that time to do that don’t you think they could have realized they were talking to a 12 year old? Don’t you think the 12 year old would shit his pants and do what he’s told? And that no one had to die? a fucking kid was just murdered, a family is torn apart, mother is grieving and in unimaginable pain, and the lying sons of bitches police officers will get a paid vacation and not be held responsible. Thats reality and thats fucked up, but whats worse is that you think that the police acted in an acceptable manner.
go listen to the damn phone call, the guy says several times he thinks the gun is fake, refers to tamir as a juvenile, and says that hes playing on the swings at a park beside a youth center. you say the cops acted with common sense? really?
Rewatching the video, yet again, it really looks like he is drawing a weapon to shoot at the officers at the time they pull up (Watch close at ~20 seconds). My initial impressions were just reaching for the waist which is still bad enough on officers responding to a weapons suspect. But really, honestly watch, you see him make a draw, shirt comes up, cops definitely see an easily perceived weapon getting drawn on them so they then blast him. It’s less grey than the first few times I watched last night but still an accident

Honestly Surprised people still don’t know the number 1 rule when it comes to police officers: RAISE YOUR GOD DAMN HANDS IN THE AIR AND DON’T MOVE IF YOU SEE THEM COMING FOR YOU. They will shoot if you do anything else.
police drive up within 5 feet of a “gun suspect”, passenger side cop jumps out of the moving car with gun in hand, finger on trigger, and shoot the suspect within 2 seconds of arrival. reaching for his hip or not, these cops rolled up looking to shoot, which they did.
i mean, would you put it past officers to just be looking to shoot?
Nice to see people making excuses for the police even when shown a video that directly contradicts damn near every part of the cops’ story. We need to stop giving these scared little bitches guns and calling them police.

tell man to get out of his car, asses that hes not a threat, ask him for his license, he turns back to his car to get his wallet. immediately start shooting a man with his back turned to you. come on man. If he was that paranoid then why didn’t he shout to him, Freeze, put your hands up, and attempt to apprehend him, or communicate?, he shot first… not only that but shot twice while the dude had his hands up…
on the flip side, here is how a real situation happens.
cop could have gunned him down once he got out his car just like the first vid, but instead attempts to give the guy orders, and only shoots once the guy starts charging him and whips out a gun. Cop and army dude exchange shots, and that vest saves the officer, that guy who drives up ends up dying down the road.
You act more or less brand new to every single story that is posted. You should be the last person speaking on how a story is spun.

By the way, it’s common to have children sell drugs and carry guns and shoot cops because they’re easy to control. So if you’re cop that has been shot at by a child in the past and when you see a kid reach for something, it’s really not unexpected to have a cop panic and shoot. I know kids that got shot for reaching when it was only their cell phone.
Best advice is to keep your hands visible and to not make any quick movements. Of course we can’t expect this of all children, that’s why they’re not supposed to be left unsupervised, whether it’s a parent, relative, teacher, etc.
Hearing these recent stories about the police makes me wonder if there’s any use for them anymore if these things keep happening. Now, I’m not saying all of them are the same, but from what the headlines of these articles are saying, they’re becoming more hostile and trigger-happy. I’m personally at that point where if someone broke into my home, I’d try and neutralize the problem myself instead of notifying the authorities, because there’s likely to be some bullshit reason for my ass to be on the line (say I brutalize the culprit in a situation where I defend myself and get charged for battery).
But seriously, after this incident, how are you going to introduce the police to children? Yes, not all of them are bad and make “mistakes” like this, but I feel this could instill fear into children and have them think they’ll get shot or harmed for just having a toy present, or anything really. If they’re so quick to neutralize the problem (which isn’t a bad thing), why not aim for the arm or leg? Going by the video, it appeared that they shot him in the chest, or the heart at that.
You still get popped or beaten when you are prone on the pavement. And if you’re especially menacing you’ll get one on your crown for good measure. There’s only so much you can do but yeah I have to look at the parents/guardian side ways as well.
