Picking up seth , is it still worth it?

Orite I reckon j.hk should return and just his stun. Fuck everything else. He doesn’t really need it. He needs the active frames on his j.hk though

Also I need help! Does anyone have any DWU setups at all? Im struggling to find one that doesn’t get demolished by a delayed DP after SPD due to his trash mk but I am trying to mak it work. Has anyone even bothered to hit th lab with Seth?

Well DWU was intended to nullify the idea of a “setup”, but standing OS’s still work like c.LP OS sweep. 2 other possibilities are using instant overhead stomp more, or neutral jump then MK body splash to evade a reversal/side switch.

This is hardly the correct place to answer this question, so I put my answer in theSeth Q&A.

Since I do not possess a console anymore to access Ultra I have only had a chance to play Ultra on two occasions until the PC release and this second day of playing did not change my opinion of Ultra Seth.

Seth is fine, 850 health is the only change I’d agree with aside from general fixes of bugs and stupid hitbox stuff.

With 850 health he’d be tougher than Akuma by 50 stun.

I doubt even 1050 HP would fix Seth’s problems. There’s nothing threatening about the character anymore. Having a bunch of options means nothing when most of them are shit now.

That’s how he’s always been though. Anything he does can get him killed. even just far HP at the wrong time could get you nabbed with a full jump-in. He was just better off in terms of design when he was broken. It was the biggest justification for using him at the compromise of the risk.

Seth is fine. I have don’t much of a problem with winning with him. Giving him more life will make him really broken, in my opinion.

Giving him more life wouldn’t make him broken. It just wouldn’t really make him much better.

I don’t want more life. Capcom has spent the last 4 patches of the game taking away everything that made Seth unique and making him more like the other characters. I want fun offensive options.

Yeah? What’s wrong with him?

before we start an endless and pointless conversation, when did you start using seth/playing sf4

I started using Seth in AE 2012. I have been playing SF4 for the past 5 years? What are you going to do? Hold your experience as an authority over me? If it’s going to be pointless, then lets stop right here. Why even reply to me when you already decided it’s going to be pointless?

We had another guy saying seth is mad good in ultra and he started this pointless discussion in which he kept saying the most stupid stuff and random stuff, we tried to explain to him why he was wrong. This escalated pretty quickly into a “if you think i’m wrong, play me and ill show you otherwise”, and lets just say he wasn’t really very knowledgeable about SF4. that’s why i asked that question

It is probably the same idiot as before under a new alias.

His offensive and defensive tools were nerfed to nigh unviability. With slow walk speed and no Tanden cancels his pressure is terrible. SPD does low damage/stun and no longer leads into a good mixup thanks to DWU. Moreover, a wrong guess with SPD leads to losing well over half HP. Now that SRK FADC forward is -5 the SPD, SRK, Tanden mixup (his main way of opening characters up) is completely worthless.

Seth doesn’t even have a good defensive game to fall back on as they took his Ultra 1 trap, solid teleport, and jumping fierce a long time ago. His fireballs have some of the worst frame data in the game and they’re paired with a 5 frame uppercut that trades now. He still lacks a 3 frame normal and has a bad back dash.

Between horrible footsies, weak pressure, low damage/stun mixups outside of the corner, and a mediocre zoning game there’s barely a reason to play the character. He’s outclassed on every front AND has the lowest HP in the game.

What Crapcom is doing is turning Seth into a disgusting version of a shoto. You know if Seth kept his 2012 self he will still be nerfed heavily seeing as the new system changes don’t favour him much.

He has no use for red focus combos at all considering how easy it is for him to crumple someone after a SB with two bars.

DWU fucks his u1 and SPD setups.

The loss of invincibility hurt him so much considering his hp. In 2012 if someone jumped at me I would DP so easily. But now I’m terrified shitless of a trade that I’m afraid to DP and buckle under pressure. Seth is the boss of the game… THE BOSS DAMMIT! Those tools made him unique and fun. Now he’s a cardboard character with no personality.

Capcom fucked up with his changes. He’s still viable character but he has no zazz anymore.

I miss my Sethsy poo and I want him back :frowning:

I’m on holiday atm but when I get home I’m gonna really hit the lab with him and see if we can pick up the pieces. I wanna make his cross up medium kick work somehow there has to be a way to utilize it. Off an SPD I tried so hard to make it work but I end up getting dped easily with no trade. It just rips me apart.

Reckon we might need to whiff a normal or something?

I’m issuing you a challenge: Find somebody you play with IRL, do a FT4, start with Ultra Seth in edition select and every time you win, go back to the previous version of Seth and ask yourself “did he get better or worse?”

I personally don’t think Seth has become a bad character, but I’m without a doubt that he’s bottom 20 now. Capcom went above and beyond the call of nerfing when it came to Seth more than any character in the game; not just for DWU, but the alteration of his primary tools we’ve learned to depend on. Now we have to play a more mannerly Seth which doesn’t fly with a lot of people considering how many characters still have dirty setups that don’t require hard knockdowns.

I can’t remember who I heard it from, but apparently whiffing far s.LP is 11 frames exactly, so if you know the other player is going to DWU just whiff that then do your normal set-up.

Damn dude idk how to respond to your post but my main problem is utilizing his j.mk at all.

Say the situation is that I SPD him and I see that he didn’t use delayed wake up.

So I’m like oh sweet I’ll just use j.mk and ambigious his ass. I cross him up and I eat a DP. If it was j.hk it would’ve either made the DP whiff or beaten it outright when I crossed em up.

I’m hoping they revert the change in the next patch but does anyone have anyway to use the j.mk?
