The question on my mind is, was this really all because we asked for it, or did Ono and co. just hold back on announcing a planned arcade release to get the fans riled up.

Chances are what will happen is that SSF4 will be inducted into the mysterious Class C. If you notice, KOFXIII is in this class all by itself atm and it’s the only one there. SSF4 SBO might be invite only…? Not possible, but it’s an idea to think about. But the game will be there for sure.
It was probably mostly Capcom management sitting on their hands for a few months watching how the marketing winds shifted with the announce of the console version. They probably really were hesitant to consider doing an arcade release because regardless of Japanese consumer bad blood, they felt they technically didn’t NEED any money an arcade release could generate because they stood to make bank anyway off their other properties + whatever the relatively cheap SSF4 made off those filthy barbarians.
They probably finally announced it here because they got tired of procrastinating, and after a lot of internal badgering from people like Ono and external badgering from the Japanese arcade community, they finally concluded that it would make more money than it cost to make – which is probably true, given their captive consumer base in the arcade realm.
We can still put up the “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED” banner, though. I’ll get my flight suit.

You do know it was ALWAYS coming out on arcade right? They just played hardball over the inflated rate the hardware owners wanted to upgrade the cabs and were happily putting out there that there would be NO arcade version to force the price down.

To be honest, I was sort of indifferent to an arcade release when it looked as if it wasn’t coming. Now that it is official, I’m pretty excited about it.
Here’s hoping for an official US release - and if not, then here’s hoping the big arcades in the US and worldwide can pick up a cab (or two).
