i don’t think it works like that in japan. i think all the arcades are pay to play, and they’re actually a bit on the expensive side too. like 1000 yen per game or something like that. those free play nights are probably like once a week because they would miss out on alot of money if they did that every night.
I imagine the pay per play concept also reduces the likeliness of people getting really addicted to video games. Not like owners can just keep track of who’s been there for 8 hours unless they find somebody dozing in and out during a match.
I don’t think the game needs a full blown arcade release with its own cabinet and all that. However, they should at least send the circuitry to arcade owners to replace the boards for their “old” SF4 ones. If that’s even possible. Seems like it should be.
I really only bring it up because it seems more economical/ecological to both Capcom, and arcade owners alike. If they thought selling these 1K$+ cabinets would be financially sound in the current economy, there probably wouldn’t be any debate on this issue.
I can tell already that SSF4 is going to be taken more seriously; not just because this is beyond a mere patch, but because so many problems/issues have been recognized in SF4, that SSF4 really really really should replace SF4 both on console and in arcade.
This. Please capcom just do this please. This would be beneficial to the whole SF4 community. The few arcade owners can get the cheap upgrade, and Capcom won’t have to take a big financial risk.
