actually it has been posted in japanese forums and on that actual japanese petition website that they feel the japanese fans wanting it might not be enough and they are trying to gather more international support for an arcade release. specifically america and europe.
good job not reading any of this entire thread and completely missing the point.
the arcade scene isn’t even dead in the US. it’s just dead in most of the US. hell in LA we have Denjin, FFA, AI, Super, and Vid 94 (not really an arcade but counts for sf4 and tekken 6 br).
yes we actually have competing arcades here. and denjin just opened not that long ago.
Good lord…I drive to Atlanta for the weekend to get more ink and I come back expecting this to be closed or whatever…and here the thread is still going strong.
It’s an article about the shitstorm that is still raging within Capcom and the Japanese community. The article doesn’t directly site it’s sources, but it looks like they got some insiders to speak off the record about the situation.
I haven’t played the arcade in years, nor do I see myself playing anytime soon.
Having said this, I recognize the absolute importance of an arcade release. The hardcore SF community is what kept this franchise’s hard beating even in its darkest times and it will be the hardcore community that will keep SF alive for many years to come. An arcade release will help cultivate the hardcore competitive community and will help expand the resources available on every character in terms of abilities and match ups; all this information will then filter down to the larger player sects (IE casuals) in the community.
Ergo, I also recognize the importance of releasing the arcade SSF4 MONTHS (at least 6) before console. I can wait, I have SF4 and can wait a few months more if it means I will get a more balanced console release.
Off the record the AM executive division chastised both Capcom JP and US producers, in an internal memo, for interfering in an industry and market they have no independent knowledge of; a valuable and important component of our current and future business including complicated partnerships, impacted by unprofessional statements!
In the long run, if capcom thought making a Coin-op was successful then it wouldn’t be a issue at all. Just like releasing this for console isnt a issue.
You can try to theory craft all you want, but a business, especially one like capcom…money>everything.
They have so many IP’s that they could be using that have large cult fan bases all around. But they stick too…
DMC
Megaman
RE5
Random wii games
Re-release of old products.
look at tvc, its only getting release on wii and the updated ver is console only. The same is being done with ssf4. (possibly)
If thats the way the can keep fighters successful and allow them to produce more then so be it.
zivi who wouldn’t just want a arcade release to go along with console? The main fact is it is a problem area for capcom. But people want it anyway and arent really thinking about what the long term effects could be.
I don’t want to fuel any fires here, but I have to agree with Riot on this one…NOT that I want this to be taken for a reversal on my stance in this thread, just that I agree because I remember what it used to be like.
Not sure how many 30 somethings we have here, but when I was about 12-15, arcades were still pretty strong.
There was usually an arcade of some kind, in any town of more than maybe 40K people. I had a few to choose from just in the neighboring suburbs where I grew up (we are talking pretty far from the city here).
You literally used to be able to go to ANY bowling alley in a decent sized city and expect to find an arcade in there of decent size and with decent selection.
The fact that these days, you have to look hard to find an arcade, then you have to call them and find out for sure if they even have most fighting games we are interested in…I think that is what Riot was getting at.
Sure, there are like 5 arcades in the LA metro area with fighting games…but the LA metro area is HUUUUUUUGE and 15 years ago there were probably 50 at least.
That order of magnitude decrease is what people are taking about when we say that arcades are dead…not that you can’t find one at all today, but that its a great endeavor and even the “hot” arcades struggle a bit. AI is popular as hell and its pretty much ghetto. You can bet that it would be nicer if they were actually making lots of money.
Good job not being rational. Several pockets of arcade popularity doesn’t change that arcades are for the most part dead. You might be to young to realize this back when a time every mall had a packed arcade some times 2 arcades per mall that was barely standing room. You want to act like their not dead because of Cali and New York still has arcades? In the grand scheme things those arcades aren’t even doing well in comparison to what they would have 15 years ago.
And no I didn’t read the whole thread but that is irrelevant because my statement was just me making an obvious point. I wasn’t being biased in any shape or form just stating a pretty much well known fact. Most people that go to the new generation of arcades (Gameworks) go to play Time Crisis 3 and some Nascar simulator with their girlfriends.
Those are the people who are catered to.
An arcade port is always a plus, so I will definitely sign the petition. I agree with what the TS petition, I didn’t think I would upset anyone with that statement.
I know I have said this before but I hope it comes out on console and arcade at the same time. Now if they had an arcade in the D.C. area that got this I might be able to wait another 6 months for a release.
not upset at your post.
it’s just that this whole thread is basically people posting exactly what you posted, and then other people posting reasons why arcade release is still important even though arcade scene is mostly dead in the US and that although it doesn’t directly affect you (no arcades near it), it will indirectly affect you.
so it was just a bit redundant is all.
all i’m saying is arcades are not completely dead in the US. we have a thriving scene in socal and we’re trying to keep that alive. wouldn’t you do the same?
anyway though, seeing your last post… we’re pretty much on the same page about this anyway so sorry for any misunderstanding.
btw i’m actually getting kind of old now. i remember when sf2 was in like every 7/11, donut shop, and laundry mat and there were still lines to play. fuck i even got totally hustled at sf1 once when i was a little kid lol.
lol really? pro-arcade is me me me me me?
what about arcade owners?
what about the entire asian scene?
what do either of those have to do with me?
(i even live in san diego which is like 2.5 hours from the closest arcade so i can’t even go that much)
how does an arcade release hurt anyone?
the other side of the argument is:
"i don’t live close to an arcade so this doesn’t affect me."
this is the me me me me me side.
i don’t like to make personal attacks but fuck man, you’re just retarded.
