Petition for arcade release of SSF4

Was that the point I was making?

Not really. Unless you consider 110k a “big chunk” of 2.5 million.

Because that’s how much SF4 sold in Japan.

And the console market there is getting even worse.

Except, that’s exactly what’s happening. The only reason were even getting SSF4 is because of how well SF4 sold in the states.

Well obviously if you’re already making the game because of how well it will sell in the US, you might as well release it everywhere else. But now you see where Capcom is coming from when they talk about not being sure they will be able to do an arcade release.

They are still not sure it would be profitable enough. But, because of how well SF4 sold in the US, a console version of SSF4 is damn near guaranteed free money.

My guess, is that the people who voted no was because they disagreed with the other option. Not that they don’t want it to happen.

Not in the US. Yes an arcade release is extremely important for the SF4 scene in Japan, but it is not a necessity for the US scene.

Now I’m all for an arcade release, I don’t want there scene to die. But I live in the US, and regardless of what happens in Japan, the SF4 scene will continue to thrive here.

And please can everyone stop saying that no arcade release means no more SF. You are already proven wrong by the fact that SSF4 is happening almost entirely on just the strength of console sales.

If it was happening because of mad arcade profit, why wouldn’t they release it in arcades? Why is the console release the no brainer?

Shin akuma nailed it, execs gotta look at the long term effects not releasing the game on arcade will have on the franchise as a whole.

whatever you guys say or do . . . people will buy the game and that’s that.

I don’t have time to read 1100+(!!!) posts. So, these things have probably been covered ad nauseum already, but let me throw these thoughts out anyway:

  1. Why would anyone be against an arcade release? Other than some bean counter, I can’t fathom why anyone in the community would be against it. It just doesn’t compute. Worst case, you never see an arcade cab and only get to watch youtube videos of people playing on it. So even then, you win. Given that, why is this thread so damn long with people arguing about it. Just show your support for the people who will get to play it. It’s a win-win-win…IMO.

  2. SF4 is already coded for arcade and console. That means 95+% of the coding has been done for all platforms, which is why they can sell SSF4 at bargain prices on console. Guess what? It also means they can develop it at bargain prices for arcade too. It’s not like they need to commit to developing a new game. It’s already mostly done. From a financial aspect, even if they sold the arcade boards cheap or offered some trade in thing, I don’t see how they wouldn’t still make a few bucks. So why not?

  3. Releasing in arcade, at least in Japan, is win for marketing and franchise brand strength. It means getting more exposure in the scene, press in Arcadia, publicity at SBO, etc. Even if they broke even financially, those things are PR machines. There’s more to business than dev cost vs. revenue. Not releasing in arcade will hurt the brand, plain and simple.

So…what is there to debate? Just ask Capcom for an arcade release already.

i wonder if killian will post a blog on this subject, or if he will totally avoid it like he doesn’t know its a big topic?

if you were given the choice of having ssf4 being on both consoles or not having it at all, i bet more than 90% of the forum would say “console version please”. some higher up guy at capcom has obviously said “this game can only be made for console, no arcade”. i think it’s a bit unfair to put the blame on ono for that like some people earlier in the thread did. i doubt it’s his decision whatsoever? if it’s lazy/rude/bullshit of capcom to not be putting it in arcades, then thats up to people who are more clued up on the matter than me to decide. i’m just happy to be getting another game at all.

My situation sucks for any Street Fighter player. I have no friends that play Street Fighter, barely any tourneys in the area, only online matches. so im planning on going to Chinatown Fair to improve my game, but there wud be no reason to go if SSFIV isnt developed on the arcade.

Signed!

After the announcement of SSFIV at TGS, and Ono’s interview in which he said there would be no arcade release, how quick was it that they started to backtrack on that statement through the official Capcom SSFIV blog, October 1st? Does anyone know if there is a Japanese forum that is protesting as loudly as this one? Unless they are simply watching Shoryuken and forums on capcom-unity, it would seem to indicate that the Japanese market/web sites are as upset as we are. Hopefully the Japanese arcade community is taking this into their own hands and getting higher-ups at Capcom to listen.

Yes, there’s definitely uproar among the Japanese community. People have been hitting Capcom Japan with calls and E-mails.

There’s also the feeling that we’ll have better luck if this is seen as a problem for the world SF community, not just Japan. That’s why our input here is also really important.

Second agreed and signed.

This is what I don’t understand either. Unless you worked for Sony or Microsoft, what would be the point of not wanting an arcade release worldwide? It certainly doesn’t negatively impact anyone. All it would really do, considering it seems to be well established that the Japanese community won’t support it on console 100%, is eliminate a large amount of top players. Who knows, maybe that’s the motivation?

No one said that they DIDNT want an arcade release, just others (like myself) dont really care if they have a release or not. There is no benefit whatsoever to me on signing this. It only benefits Asian countries and select areas in the US.

Arcade released = doesnt affect me
Arcade not released = doesnt affect me

Then why are you here to begin with?

Cause I can.

I was replying to a post.

Good point, I guess my issue is more with the wording of the choices in the poll. It should probably be revised from “No, its not necessary for the future of the series/community.” to “It makes no difference, its not necessary for the future of the series/community.”

When it’s voted as a strict no, people seem to be interpreting that as “I don’t want to see it released in arcades at all.”

Then why are you even in this discussion if you don’t really care if they have a release or not?

True that, true that.

Ugh, cause I can…

Seriously, I was posting in response to Gaijin87’s post.

Dude my mind is boggled by this as well. The answer some people give is they don’t want Capcom to lose money. This answer falls so flat in the water because SF4 made good money in Japanese arcades and has a solid following. It’s almost as if half these people feel an arcade released would jeopardize the release of SSF4 for consoles.
