arcade business does not = only sf4. Surely you realize that Capcom does other things in the arcade business besides SF4, right?
also i like how you didnt bold the parts in their financial reports like macro-economic factors beyond their control (like strong japanese yen (see what I did there?) not to mention that obviously fall 2008 until now the world economy just hit a severe downturn, people werent going out, much less spending anything.
either way your information doesnt help your argument as its not sf4 specific,(gives us 0 clue about how sf4 is actually doing), and actually rehashes information we already knew - japan arcades are struggling, news at 11!! nice try though.
um lots of people have posted that the arcade scene is dead, and that it’s not worth it to release an arcade version.
“worth it” pretty much means it’s not cost effective correct? or in other words that capcom would not stand to make a profit correct?
how can you say nobody in this thread is saying that?
obviously capcom will do what is best for capcom. who is going to argue this?
ono said it isn’t planned, but then the blog says they are still trying. do not give up on it. ono even stated he wants to make an arcade version so keep fighting for it (ie: petitions, emailing capcom, etc.)
what is so convoluted about this that you don’t understand what we’re tying to do here?
If you honestly believe that, at the end of the day, what you do/think/feel/say shall in any way, shape, or form affect whatever Capcom decides to do, then more power to you.
In the words of Principal Skinner: “Prove me wrong kids! Prove-me-wrong!”
Close ya mouth son! I don’t wanna hear that logical/financial mumbo-jumbo. I just want an arcade release of this game. So I can have a glow about me when people first get it on console and I’m already ahead of the game. “Oh this? Yeah I been playing SSF4 for like 6 months homies, where you been?”
That’s all I want, tired of being behind in the scene when if my arcade was at least decent at the time and didn’t strive off ticket vendor games(or drop 10k for Deal or No Deal machine…seriously?) I could of been playing SF4 like Arcade UFO/Denjin Arcade/Arcade Infinity/ChinaTown Fair.
I just stand by community determining skill level and if your community is random internet joes you’ll reach a plateau eventually and stunt growth. Then be used to online play where some things work online that wouldn’t fly in a local setting or just timing things in general would be off. I’m rambling but damnit the arcades need SSF4.
Why are EC heads the ones screaming loudest for arcade when their scene didn’t step it up until console release? I seem to remember hella people bitching about $1/game and using that as a reason why they didn’t play as much and WC was better. And now all of a sudden they’re the arcade white knights itt?
Not that I don’t agree with Art or anything, but you would think guys like Valle & Ed Ma would be the ones saying stuff like this…
and while it’s different for every company and every specific title, consumer feed back does make a difference. companies do look at public opinion and if strong enough it can sway their decisions. we have a few people at sony who spend quite a lot of time researching public opinion and interest in future titles. i mean why wouldn’t they? it’s another metric they can use to help determine how well a title might sell.
i’m not saying it always has much effect or that companies will just bow down to the public, but it does matter and i’ve personally had my job affected by what consumer opinion is on a title that hasn’t even been released.
hey you gotta be fair. I was in Japan right during sf4 arcade release (shortly after evo) and played that shit hardcore (at 100 yen a game) until i came back
also, even though people were bitching, shit was still popping at CF regardless when i came home =P
Yea I think Capcom has a good reason why they won’t release it to Japan. Perhaps they will release it later but want to cash in on the console version.
Maybe they won’t make a big profit as thought for an arcade edition.
Well who knows.

Unrelated: ** Jabhadouken is found. That is cool. I don’t keep updated with forums but they said he was lost a couple days ago.
Our arcade go down because US consumer want to play at their own house, and no one want to drive 10 miles for an arcade.
Their still operating because they prefer going out for fighting games, and their public transportation system and dense population make it a lot easier to go arcade.
Japan console business had been dying since launch of PS3/360, the only thing keeping Japan alive in PSP and DS. Which Japanese prefer to play for local multilayer at cafe, train, mall or school.
I was wondering, how are the comments on the official blog? That seems to be the first place to make demands, followed by inboxes I guess. Seems like every arcade player should be rushing to their nearest internet connection and spamming the hell out of that blog with arcade requests.
anyone know what they’re saying? is it all about juris tits in the comments or what?
This has to be a mostly Japanese incentive, right? I would think the opinion of western fans has a minimal impact if there’s an arcade release, given that they don’t even release cabs in the US anymore.
So is there a Japanese version of this topic somewhere? (that’s hopefully more successful, 95 no votes, yeeesh)
Whoever posted the fabricated numbers of arcade production cost versus profit was very very wrong. You need to take into account licensing costs associated with the hardware platform, develop anti-piracy measures, operator menus and network encryption (for multiplayer), marketing, etc.
The costs for making a game playable in the arcade are just as large as making it for a console. It would take a dev team more time to “port” it to the arcade than to “port” it to another system.
Also, the $5000 price point is distributor price, not wholesale which Capcom sells to distributors.
Ok, so lets say that Japan doesn’t get an arcade release, but only a console release. Keep in mind that consoles are pretty much dead there and arcades are still pretty much alive, despite this:
Do you think SSF4 would sell well in Japan if it was only on console? No.
While Japan’s gaming market isn’t as big as the US, it is still a big chunk.
Do you think that with just the sales of the US that SF would survive to see another game? No, it won’t.
SF is a Japanese game. Capcom is a Japanese company. Wouldn’t it make sense for a Japanese game, released by a Japanese company, to do well in its own country?
It’s dumb to think that if SSF4 doesn’t sell well in the country where it was made, that it won’t really matter because the US is where the real money is at.
By your logic, Capcom might as well save money and not sell SSF4 in Japan at all because the US sales will more than make up for the 0 number of sales in Japan, since it is the determining factor and all.
So are you telling me that the people who voted against the poll for an arcade release, that these people are not against Japan having an arcade release, or an arcade release in general?
If an arcade release would be helpful to the scene, then why did ANYONE vote against the poll?
Seriously? Arcades in Japan are IMPORTANT AS FUCK!
How many times do I have to type this shit out over and over?
Not releasing SSF4 in Japan arcades will most likely cause a ripple effect:
No arcade release in Japan
/
The Japanese don’t play the game
/
Decrease in player base, nationally and quite possibly internationally.
/
Decrease in amount and quality of competition
/
Decrease in advancement of the game
/
SSF4 doesn’t sell well in Japan (dead console market over there)
/
The end of future SF titles
/
No more future SF titles = The end of the SF community and it’s progression.
Sure, bigger communities like the US and especially Japan, they will live on for a while, but with no new games coming out from this point on, it won’t be long before the community as a whole dies out.
My guess is that Japan will still be thriving thanks to their arcade scene, while the US is pretty much dead.
I’ll say it again:
Japan is an ARCADE based culture, NOT a console based culture.
To not release an arcade version of SSF4 in a country which is primarily arcade based is like the dumbest move Capcom could make.
But…with out daigo to show me how to Focus attack how will I learn the game? Who will teach me how to light light anymore? I need this arcade release or I cant be on the japanese players jock anymore, because they wont play this garbage. How is the community supposed to come out with new shit on there own? I want my Japanese GODS of SF4 to show me EVERYTHING!!
That translation is fuckin horrible. So let me get this right, its saying that if we bitch enough on the internet we might see an arcade release for the gods of SF?
I don’t really know why people are putting themselves into Capcom’s shoes.
This thread is about posting if you want an arcade version. Not pretending your Capcom and shooting it down.
If you would like an arcade version, you should be saying “YES”. They can figure out if it’s a stupid financial decision themselves, you just need to express interest and sign the petition.
