I’d be pretty pissed if the arcades I frequest in the US DIDN’T upgrade to the new SSF4. Arcades are dying as it is and SF4 seems to be bringing them back on the map.
Well, I actually do pay attention to market-related video game business news in Japan.
News like this article saying that the Wii was hurting arcades.
And this article with Capcom pondering arcade viability.
All video game business is hurting, even and esp. arcades.
I think I know how. I’m gonna give it a shot:
“…”
Despite my posts in the first few pages of the threads, after learning more about Japanese culture and how the lack of an arcade release could players who never have access to arcades in the first place, I now fully support an Arcade Release of SSFIV. I’m still not sure if its “necessary”, and I’m pretty sure it won’t be “profitable” (at least not in the way Capcom wants), but Japan does not have as much space as America, and arcades may very well be the only place fighting game fans can get together to play over there. We’re a world community and we should have each others backs on this kind of stuff.
I think people are looking at this too black and white. “If it doesn’t get a arcade release what does it matter to me?” Well, a arcade release will tip the odds of keeping this a competitive fighting game.
As everyone keeps bringing up capcom wants to make money, so what’s stopping them from making a street fighter game like mk vs dc? Wouldn’t making street fighter easier for the main stream gamer make them more money. I know the money issue has been beaten to death by both sides. It just seems to me if capcom cares about money then the next step would be making the series more mainstream.
It just seems to me like having a arcade release labels this series as a competitive fighting game, because they wouldn’t release a mainstream street fighter in the arcade.
All this is just speculation, and this probably wouldn’t affect super street fighter 4, but what about future versions? If they will give up on putting this in the arcade what else will they give up on. It just gives me a bad feeling, and as a competitive player I feel safer if they keep making arcade ports. Not to mention that I lose absolutely nothing by supporting the people who want a arcade port.
This could never happen, then my point would be moot. Just from what I’ve seen from the video game industry gives me a bad feeling.
Overall, I still want to go to japan for sbo one day. I’d like to visit the arcades that are still open in America. It just wouldn’t be the same if the current version of street fighter isn’t there. People complain about not having local arcades, but don’t want to support arcades that still exist. (in America) As long as arcade games are still made their is a chance your local arcade might get a decent fighting game. No matter how small the chance is. Heck even a arcade in north carolina(where I live) has tekken 5 dr, and might even get tekken 6.
Nobody believed sf4 would even come out, and everyone said fighting games were dying and done. If everyone just said “move on to shooters” etc. we wouldn’t have even gotten this game.
I’m speaking in a lot of “what ifs”, but I think a arcade release, and supporting a arcade release is in favor of competitive players. That’s just my opinion on the subject I wanted to share. Which isn’t a attack on the opposite side.
Well, I’ve stopping before I talk myself in circles. Props to anyone who reads all this.
In closing just because something doesn’t effect you now doesn’t mean it won’t effect you(sf) in the future.
What the hell is going on? this thread is starting to talk about USA vs Japan! Any1 of u guyz release that there are other countries that have a decent Arcade scene too?
Singapore and Hong Kong?
This thread is starting to change into a Japanese dick-riders vs American rednecks warzone!
btw is it WRONG to have an arcade release? Unless Capcom wants the Street Fighter series to die due to no arcade release. Cause as far as I know casual gamers dont give a shit about Street Fighter and they don’t play in the arcades!
I’m for a good online experience but i believe that an arcade release is still necessary at this moment of time.
Thank you, sir. I’d rep if I wasn’t 24’d
The truth right here son!
:china:
Amen!
there are bunch of people here talking about how they love the arcades but do not support it at all. bunch of hypocrites
They gave enough of a shit for the game to sell 2.5+ million copies.
yes, thx to them sells are up. But, do u think that in the future without a competitive environment will allow Street Fighter to survive?
I’ve introduce SF4 to a few people back home, guess what? they are selling their copies now.
You’re all crazy, there is only one port that matters, and noone has said a thing about it.
SF4 for iphone… gg
Considering your obvious love for all things of the superior Thai style, I shall blindly and rabidly agree with you. :smokin:
People with Android phones will be left out. This will split the community.
Hey - what about those players who only have landlines?
They’re going to be left behind…
According to the Japanese they would love to play sf4 on a cell phone but they said that no company has made a small enough phone to play it on, maybe someday… ( Just a Friendly Joke )
Where does it say that the Japanese won’t play the game if it comes out only on console? This thread is becoming very anti-Japanese for no reason.
I can see it now…
use your left thumb to do the DP motion and right thumb to tap an onscreen button!
I personally would like to see a simultaneous release of Arcade/Console versions.
I don’t even own a console so the only time I get to play the game is at the Arcade or at a friend’s house.
Also, a couple things might happen:
-
The desire to play the game dwindles.
-
Only the original SFIV will be played and SSFIV will get no love.
woo?
Yeah we working on that… told one of the owners this wednesday when it was completely dead that day to try wacky wednesday for like $10-$15 like flippers use to have. wednesday looks to be the slowest day of the week. then i suggested if that works out to expand the specials for the other weekdays, so i’m hoping he’ll try it out for like a month and works. only problem is that everyone now comes on tuesdays and not saturdays so they might push it back to wednesday to get the special and then tuesday would be the slowest day then so it might have to be 2 day special and everyday single day theres always a special and still people don’t come unless it’s the weekend.
jeff i’m the only one allowed to lerk out of the S.Fl Threads so shh and go back to FTL thread
