Doesn’t stuff like this only hurt the cause though, if Capcom did get round to reading this because they would assume the votes are being padded by people who wouldn’t be playing at the arcades, I’m sure they would only be interested if the majority of people voting for this were going to be pumping coins in their machines?
I mean call me stupid but does a company really care about the views of people not paying for their product?
feels slightly daft for having already voted yes for the hell of it
A lack of an arcade release hurts everyone. It stunts the development of the entire community because the best players won’t be given the atmosphere they need to grow stronger (see Reno’s posts). If you’re on SRK and you watch Japanese match videos to learn strategies, it’ll affect you. It doesn’t matter if you live in Middle of Nowhere, USA and will never see another arcade in your life… SSF4 not being arcades is bad for the entire community.
That said, I’m very glad to see Capcom is fighting for it. You know it must have pained Ono to go in front of that camera and say “sorry, no arcade release” when you know his team really wants to do it and is just being shut down by Capcom accountants. Keep it going Capcom, an arcade release is very important to the community!
Also, don’t close this thread yet. Just because the person said that on the blog doesn’t mean it’s finalized yet. Might as well ride this out the full way. Capcom wants us to “make our voices heard”.
Have you read all this doom and gloom from page 1 to now? That the whole SF will collapse instantly with no arcade release? Like 30+ pages of it. I dont agree nor disagree, so that already kills your response.
Living in Kansas, I am quite literally Middle of Nowhere, USA, and even I’ve been nervous about this whole arcade thing. It felt like an ill-omen for the series, and seemed to drain the hype for the game.
I’m happy there’s hope though, and I’m glad you guys (and the devs apparently) aren’t going down without a fight.
Patches are ok for other types of games, but not fighters, considering the fact that not everyone has internet, a good chunk of us do, but not everyone. And not everyone likes playing online so patching is a no-no. Just release the console version first then release the exact same console version on arcade.
I hate patching just for the sake of patching mistakes that they could of fixed with a simple delay or some shit.
Getting too patch happy also makes some players lazy. Any time they can’t beat something, they storm the forums asking for a patch rather than trying to learn a counter.
This is true in all kinds of games, not just fighters.
We should remember that the arcade version is NOT CONFIRMED.
All the Japanese players I talked to tonight interpreted the blog post very differently. They see it as evidence that Ono is trying but still doesn’t have permission from the higher ups to do an arcade release.
People feel that pressure from within the Japanese player base is not enough. It’s going to take international pressure on Capcom stating that the arcade release is important to the overall growth of the Street Fighter community. This is especially true since Capcom America actually holds the SF license.
This. I signed the petition because I wouldn’t want any SF players to be left out in the cold… But I voted no in the poll because competitive scenes can do just fine without arcade releases, so it isn’t necessary. It’ll certainly suck to lose a major area of competition and source of hype, but Evo, Bar Fights, and majors across the US aren’t going to disappear because the Japanese aren’t playing.
So people saying “fuck the Japanese!” - please read Reno and ElvenShadow’s posts to understand why this would suck immensely for their tournament scene. Not getting an arcade release for them would be similar to Capcom making SSF4 PS3-exclusive or something - they’d be screwing over PC and 360 players. More versions = more access = more players. Why would you want to deny that from anyone with a passion for fighting games?
But just because you’ve signed the petition doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take Valle’s words to heart as well. I don’t see how voicing support for another competitive area precludes you from thinking of ways that you can help your local scenes and the overall scene here in the States.
EDIT: That blog post is pretty promising, but don’t let up until we get rock-solid confirmation! With all this recent news about how Capcom at large was hesitant to continue SF at all, seems like the SSF4 team has to fight tooth and nail for every concession.
I don’t mind if they release an arcade version, but honestly, I don’t think it is necessary in this day and age. FTMP, the console market is the future for fighting games.
I am glad they are getting an arcade release. I just hope it drops on consoles and arcade at the same time. I do not feel like waiting six months to a year again. Come on spring 2010.
