this is an absolute fucking lie, capcom did no such thing.
did they directly state that they would develop more street fighter titles for taito x2?
no they did not.
but their whole marketing campaign was “buy our expensive viewlex cabinets. help usher in the new HD arcade era.” an HD arcade era that they lead people to believe they would be a part of.
did they lie to people? no.
did they lead them on? yes.
^ which is exactly why when an arcade is some else’s bitch they end up going bankrupt. i’m pretty sure once the japanese community starts catching on about the console hype and they stop feeding quarters into cabinets the big boys upstairs will start thinking otherwise or they end up going broke themselves. remember that at the end of the day, money talks and bullshit walks and when u got a a paper with 1k signatures on it, they are not going to do anything about it. now when u got a million consumers who aren’t dropping quarters in then they got a real big problem and that’s where the real petition lies.
Yeah, I hear what you’re saying. My numbers were arbitrary, not based on fact at all. I just used the for the explanation. In a real world scenario, those numbers wouldn’t be too far off for development costs. But here is where the scenario does hold weight: What if Arcade owner XY and Z never bought the original SF4 hardware? Capcom would have to keep those operators in mind and would no doubt need to ship out the Taito X2 hardware to them. You cannot assume that every potential customer has already purchased the necessary hardware to run the game.
I’m not sure if Capcom lost money on the Arcade release, but they no doubt made more money from the console release. Compare the number of console buyers who paid 49-59.00 for the game to the arcade owners who paid 15-20,000. for theirs. The profit margin for the mass maket version will far exceed the Arcade units without a doubt.
Thank you for not spitting in my face. I like good debates that are kept at a mature level.
Peace
I see what your saying and makes a lot of sence. But there may be a posibility that it could come back. If it was to become the “cool” thing again then it can comeback. The problem I see is that people have a mindset that “nerds” play in arcades. If that changes which I believe has a chance since gaming is becoming more universal. If we can be more optimistic then im sure a change will come.
Ok you guys need to make the SSF4 arcade release happen. I’ve been talking with some top sf4 players in Japan. They all believe that Japan’s SF4 scene will die because of it. I won’t say who, but someone enlightened me that the SF4 copyright is actually owned by Capcom USA. So Japanese players have no voting power in this situation. This petition made by non-Japanese might be the only way to actually get SSF4 into arcades. LETS DO THIS
If you have arcade 5 minutes away from your houses with 2 rows of SF4 machines and thousands of competition, I am sure you will be sad that SSF4 won’t be in arcade.
I grew up in Macau, although it is no Japan, it has very dense population, awesome public transit, and arcade almost everywhere. (Of course they are all modified coin-up console or PC on Emu).
Ever wonder why most Korean still play in Internet Cafe, even though they can play computer games a lot cheaper at their house? If someone in US telling you that they want to go Internet Cafe to play WOW, you will call them crazy.
I understand fully why many people don’t care about arcade release, but trying to argue that console exclusive for fighting game will be better for Japan or any Asia country is just too irresponsible.
Although I will agree that, WHY THE HELL are we fighting for Japan gaming scene?
We should petition US govt to sponsor Diego to live in US forever, Japan is not longer a fitting place for the beast.
I am just feeling sad for Arcade owners in South Cali that imported the machine, sorry we all morons trusted Capcom and encourage you to do it. Better luck on your next business, noodle shop or whatever.
Considering that the GGPO effort (and most efforts at injecting common sense into online play, competitive play, and other issues that are crucial to the US scene) continue to fall on deaf ears, i’m not sure what influence SRK would have on an arcade release.
In reality, we are just going to have to deal with what Capcom does, if Capcom decides to put out an arcade release, great, if they don’t, then we have to work around it. Eventually arcades will have to learn to implement console/pc and online play anyway (even in Japan). Even if it’s not true for SSF4, it will be soon enough. Take this as the wake up call.
well the thing is capcom doesn’t even have to sell them the taito x2s.
taito is it’s own thing.
blazblue and other titles use taito x2 as well.
you can basically think of the taito x2 as platform or console, but for arcade operators.
and assuming capcom had a lot of taito x2’s for the initial sf4 launch. they either sold them all (at profit) or they still have some left over.
either way, this shouldn’t really add to their cost too much. most of their financial investment in this area was probably covered with the initial sf4.
and the taito x2 aren’t even that expensive. it was the viewlix cabs and the actual sf4 roms that capcom charged so much for.
at release, a taito x2 + blazblue cost something around $3500.
anyway i’m pretty sure they made a lot more money on console sales as well but i’m still curious what their profit at the arcades were. i think in japan, the companies actually make a percentage of profits on each game that is played. like 10% out of the dollar that a person pays to play or something. i read this on srk though so i’m not sure it’s true.
yeah i meant no disrespect before, sorry if i came off overly hostile but this thread is kind of frustrating.
i should really stop posting in here.
i wish i could be that optimistic but when u have a guy from team arcadia here that barely comes to ur arcade and goes 25 miles out of the way to play with others at the local lan center console setups or rather plays at home with a couple of people, u tend to think differently. besides we bolted down the TE sticks on custom made arcade style cabinets to recreate the arcade style feel to it so it’s basically 3 vewlix cabinets light years ahead of the current vewlix setup and not a single person complains about it, and we have 1 p360 with sanwa button setup too. We just have issues getting people in during the weekdays. it gets super packed for tournies and weekends. justin wong was even confirmed for our tourny this saturday but it looks like he can’t make it but i’m sure he even wanted to see our setups for himself and would love them.
Yeah see this is the problem. They won’t. They’ll just play other shit, in the arcades. They will not suddenly develop a thriving console scene in response to this one game that’s pretty popular. (not even the most popular game, really.) Thus it instantly strips the game of some legitimacy, along with lowering the level of international play and competition.
Okay like, no offense to people here suggesting things, but before you suggest something that may work… READ MY POSTS.

And if I covered anything that you were about to post… don’t post?
if the arcades have pad ports for a playstation controller or xbox controller ill gladly accept them.
the new blog has something about the arcade version or about its support.

Think anyone can translate?
However, it is not because there is never a possibility of the arcade version.
We never : wanting tell one by all means.
Street fighter IV in the arcade was not given up.
Ladies and gentlemen, because I want to live in a fire big …light [shi] it… with your hand with great pains so as not to erase it …put wood on the fire and continue… …[te]…, "…the assistance in the future…
???Though it has been written unusually by serious feeling
To you who are playing in the arcade for super-street fighter IV and you who are playing by the domestic use absolutely. It has finished …the one that it is possible to enjoy it…
The development staff is making as well as the time of strike IV while hitting it each other without all compromises hard, and wait in expectancy by all means, please.
Japan cares about the social aspect of gaming, this is why they won’t play an online game. Monster Hunter PSP is big as shit in Japan but they couldn’t care less for an online version, because online social environment sucks ass. Why do you think pokemon does so well when there was never an online version? Because they like playing in the same fucking place as other real life people. You can’t get that online and fighting games are the same way. They will go to arcades for the social aspect.
People in other spots around the world have the same idea. I don’t give a fuck about your shit fuck village where there are no arcades and everyone fucks goats. Have fun with the console version but know that it will never replace arcades in terms of social environment or leveling up.
Tekken did this at one point but I believe it was taken out in the new one.
this.
And the last part was hilarous
heres a better translation from my girl shorthand translation obviously
they dont give up sf4 arcade and they know ppl are crazy about sf4 now
and super sf4 is been made for both arcade and console and they are sure ppl can enjoy it both at game center and home
they are creating it without compromizing and fight everyday each other so “please expect and wait for it”
where is this from? is this from capcoms sf4 blog??
Thanks for jumping on this. Oh god let this be true…
