I don’t think so – I’ll find those places up when I go back though, thanks.
You’ve got a point:P
But seriously… That has nothing to do with anything! A lot of the voters aren’t even american:P
And you must be one of the guys who think an arcade release would harm the community… I respect that. Not very much, but you are intitled to your opinion!
Nah, an arcade release as well as a console release would be POSITIVE, but you can’t expect Capcom to sink a lot of money into a medium that they have known to be dying for quite some time now. Kinda like how GM just dropped Saturn.
The game wouldn’t be the same without an Arcade scene. Not to mention, what a blow would it be to the arcades that have supported the SF series for years.
Sure, I can add a Zero to than number but it still would not justify the realese of expensive Arcade hardware. I can add two zeros to that number and it still would not justify an arcade release. In order to generate the kind of motivation it would take to warrent an arcade release in these dark, economic times, a substantial number of customers must be willing to purchase a unit. Being that the Arcade scene is pretty much gone, the chances of that hapening are close to zero. You have to look at this from a business perspective. You want to reach the widest possible audience but at the same time, you do not want to abandon your core fan base.
How do you suppose you do that without going into the “Red?” The most logical way is to deliver the game via console. That way, the casual players and harcore players alike still have access to the game. I’m all for an Arcade release, but I’m not going to bitch about one not being made. I’m just going to deal with the cards that have been delt to me. That’s all I’m trying to say.
Peace
Could you please elaborate on the part about abandoning the core fanbase? How would adding an arcade release hurt the sales of the console release or the console fans? And the arcade scene isn’t gone yet and there are plenty of areas that would have use for the game as UltraDavid pointed out.
Well, where were they going when SFIV was first released? Nowhere, because odds are, they didn’t have an arcade close by with SFIV anyway. Isn’t the number of arcades with SFIV still less than 2 dozen?
Times are a’changing.
This could also includes Tekken players. But yet, no T6 release here. There are, what, 2 BR machines in the entire Southeast US. Top players here have to drive or even fly 3 hours just to play. Even with the handful of arcades that imported, there are MANY top players here not playing a game that they are the best at because they do not have access to it. And there wasn’t an international uproar about that.
My point is that the goal is noble (seriously, give the regions with non-dead arcades a cab), but the sentiment I’m reading is just odd. There’s all this talk about defending and preserving the global community and global talent. But that sentiment has not, has never been, and will never be offered to us.
At the end of the day, it is a business decision, no doubt. If the books at Capcom show that it is not financially beneficial, it isn’t going to happen.
That said, if it’s a close call, and there is some question right now as to whether to do it or not, a little community action could cause the balance to tip in favor of a release.
Ono says he listens closely to the community, lets hold him to that.
Hey I used to play @ University Pinball like everyday for sf4! :looney:
first off, nowhere did i say i wouldn’t play the game. where did you get that from? what did i say makes me irrational, and what did i say that would cause you to question my age?
2nd, posting in this thread is a means to debate opinions with other people in the thread. the purpose of a forum is to post and read threads.
you know, kinda like how you’re posting in a gaming thread but obviously don’t really care about games?
also, you think capcom is going to snicker at this thread? capcom most likely isn’t even going to read this thread or know of it’s existence. but doesn’t mean we can’t try.
third, capcom doesn’t need taito to manufacture any new hardware at all. they only need the software to run on the existing taito x2’s that sf4 is already running on and that they have already sold to arcades.
all they do is put the software on an hdd which gets swapped into the taito in place of the old sf4 hdd.
fourth, logic and knowledge of video game economics would tell you that large player base leads to large sales… but the competitive scene for said video games is a driving force for the marketing and promotion of that video game.
this is especially true for games such as street fighter which have very little single player or story mode content. the sales of this type of title is directly related to the competitive aspect of it. as sad as it is, do you know how many copies of sf4 just 1 competitive player like daigo probably helped sell?
look at first person shooters as an example… the ones which have the best competitive environments generally are the ones that sell the best and have the most sequels.
i actually work in the video game industry, and judging by your comments, i don’t think you understand the financial side of this business as well as you think you do.
just look at my other posts, i’ve actually gone into the economic side of this debate quite a few times already.
fifth, i guarantee i’ve done more for my community as far as fighting games goes than you ever have so please don’t try to lecture me on this.
six, i never stated anywhere that our scene would die without an arcade release. i was talking about the japanese scene, and about how that may affect us.
please actually read my posts if you are going to reply to me.
seven, i never called you a redneck. i said the whole “fuck japan, go usa” type of thinking is like a redneck mantra. and your previous post to sabin very much had a fuck the japanese scene theme to it even if you did not actually say “fuck japan”.
finally, i never stated anywhere that japan was better that then US… so where are you even getting this from? i’m actually kind of known for thinking the US can beat japan in this game given a little more time. where do you guys keep getting the inferiority complex thing from anyway? some people in here state japan is the best because tournament results currently show that they are. their best have beaten our best so far. stating facts doesn’t make you a dick rider or mean you feel inferior.
look it’s obvious you are a casual gamer who doesn’t care much about this issue.
so just give it a rest, some of us do have passion about games and do have passion for sf.
honestly you’re in the wrong forum if you don’t.
Haha, didn’t know your history, but if that’s the case then that just furthers my argument.
True enough, but now even places that had decent arcade comp’ are being cut off. I’m just saying that it’s easy for people to say we can get by on console when they’ve had regular arcade comp’ for 3-10 years. Unless we see GGPO quality netcode, it’s gonna be even harder for new players to come up.
Sabre makes a good point. And it isn’t just fighting games; I see no outcry from Japan about, for instance, us not getting “Ultimate Editions” of certain JRPGs.
I dunno. I’m suddenly torn on this topic. Damn my vendettas!
Dr. B has no vendettas, except against those who would threaten our existence. He fights with Reavers daily, often while taking a shit.
I’m not a Tekken player, but that is very fucked up. I’d have been petitioning Namco. I’m sure people probably did get in an uproar and sign petitions and the like. And while I know everyone is not like me, I’d have expected the other world regions to care as well. You say that didn’t happen they didn’t care.
Well, that doesn’t change my resolve one bit. I’ve been trying to open peoples eyes to think on a global level. Saying “well they don’t care about us why should we care about them?” That’s just not the right attitude and I’m not going to adopt it.
Wow, what does that have to do with anything? So people cant criticize you just because they havent contributed enough to the community like you did, which I doubt?
Whatever doodette
Yeah but I seriously doubt that it’s on the fence. Especially with their general attitude towards continuing the series (Linko posted from here) being that they don’t think it’s a smart idea, it’s almost a miracle that SSF4 is even releasing.
I’d just like to say that I respect the HELL out of that.
:china:
I don’t see US players or Japanese players…all I see is street fighter players.
and I love you, because you’re just so damn cuddly. :lp::lp::r::lk:CUDDLE
I like this post. It make us feel all unite and shit.
Street Fighter and Metal Gear Online are the only video game communities I normally feel involved in.
that was a response to him saying i should spend less energy arguing with him and more time promoting my scene.
you don’t think it’s funny for someone who hasn’t contributed much time to the fighting game community to say that to someone who has? (well relative to him anyway)
besides, why can’t i do both? argue with him and try to promote the arcade scene?
(see the trick here is that this thread is actually a petition for arcade release of ssf4 so i actually am trying to promote the arcade scene with my arguments here. clever huh? i’m sad he missed this part)
criticize me all you want. but at least make a valid point.
care to touch on any of my other points?
LOL @ your sig…cause I can’t remember who, but another member on this forum has the following as his sig: “People who play only female characters in fighting games are fags”.
Hateraide is strong and syrupy around here lately.
