Petition for arcade release of SSF4

lol parabellum you are too friendly. should change your name to pacifist imo haha

Oh don’t get it twisted…I’m pretty sure I’m actually a severe asshole most of the time.

I use to have that attitude when I was like fucking 8 when I used to play fighters. I’ve grown up now and ironically taken a great fondness in maining female characters. That dude sounds immature. I try ALL female characters, even ones with high execution like C. Viper. I mostly use Chunners and Sak but I mix it up.

Haters never prosper though…

i think they will make one but not right away.

if the console version is successful.

This shit is mindboggling honestly. Capcom is willing to kill an entire scene of hardcore players for their game, and all they would have to do is give them a simple software upgrade… the hardware is already out there. Not to mention they would even make more money off of it.

This on top of no console character update for vanilla SF4 on top of no HDR release in Japan of any kind = WTF Capcom, you’re incompetent as hell.

Sabin,

I?m all about the arcade culture. I grew up in the arcades. I lived in the arcades. I know who I know because of the arcades. I?m in the industry I?m in right now because of the arcades. I lived and breathed So. Cal arcade culture (legendary Pak-Man arcade in Pasadena, SHGL, Family Fun (before Third Strike took over), Western Arcade (Pasadena), World?s Finest Comics (so-called Birthplace of So. Cal Street Fighter), Camelot, Trips to SVGL for Daytona USA 2 Beta, Alpha 3 Beta, Castle Park (Riverside, CA), etc, etc. Arcades were at times my primary residence.

From a U.S. perspective though, an arcade-first release that comes out 6 months earlier than the console version may serve to create / continue a local arcade culture, but it just hurts the rest of the U.S. scene because most people don?t have an arcade within 100 miles of them, let alone an arcade with an established crew of solid players where beginners can learn the fundamentals. This just contributes to elitism. The rest of the ?scene? shouldn?t be penalized because some part of the country has like 5 arcades with the newest game while the rest has like 1. Simply not fair. . .I think it?s just that straightforward. Most of the newer generation has been conditioned (through no fault of their own) to have things handed to them on a silver platter: YouTube, xCopy strats, combos, styles, etc. So I doubt most are going to drive 2100 miles to play the best players on a regular ol? day. Who the heck would do that now? But, they shouldn?t have to with today?s technology anyways. In the U.S. anyways, the game should be available to everyone at the same time. I think if you really care about the community as a whole, you wouldn?t want an arcade-first release. You?re only contributing to widening the skill gap.

Like Calipower said, having a console-only version allows the community to be creative on how they want to steer their community. Contrary to popular belief, So. Cal and EC don?t make up the entire community. With console-only versions, now anyone that wants to take the initiative can organize local Street Fighter events and start to create a new Street Fighter culture.

It’s ironic that being able to adapt is a key component to being good in Street Fighter yet some people are up in arms about no arcade release and are refusing to adapt.

Get the console version when it comes out, make a plan, start a website, advertise, challenge people from other crews, get professional, etc. This community can be as big as anything out there. Crying about this ain’t going to solve nothing. Crying about this won’t get you on ESPN over poker. Create something first. You’re going to be able to purchase this wonderful game for $60. And with that $60 you can create something awesome. Today, arcades will just hold you back in the long run.

It’s more of an issue is getting the updates to all the machines that are available. That and I am sure SSF4 being in a SF4 cabinet would be lame visually.

understood bro

but cant you understand that GOOD online play opens a WHOLE NEW WORLD of players to the masses???

i could name some VERY good peeps that have come out onto the cali scene that are giving even the top players a run for there money… that play ON PAD. that got their experience online.

they arent the best but they are DAMNED good.

the reasoning why i’m championing… (lol?) console play is because of online play and because i see peoples want to stay arcade based as a detriment to the fgc.

with GOOD online, i and you and everyone else will be able to play peeps like sabin, wong, marn, sanford, choi etc.etc.etc. from the comfort of our own couches.

a new day and age will finally be upon us when ONLINE tournies will actually be viable… imagine being able to buy into a tournie via debit/paypal that has 100,000 participants???

talk about a big payday for the dude that comes in first place even if the buy in were only $1

imagine if it were $10…

dont you think that will make peeps stand up and take notice? imagine all of the japs that would enter that tourny.

rather than our scene stagnating it would fucking THRIVE.

the amount of players available online versus those at the arcade isnt even a contest… MAYBE 50 people of note at any one given arcade, versus literally thousands online.

to those that think worthwhi;le online CANT happen…? how can it not? EVERYTHING gets upgraded eventually. being a squeaky wheel ensures that you get some oil sooner than later.

i had shitty speeds on my isp for YEARS (1-5 mb DL) but i’ve been harrassing verizon to get there fucking asses in my apartment complex and rallying my ENTIRE building for close to 2 years now… and guess what? we got verizon installed… so my current isp (time warner) got scared and got off of there asses and put that fiber optic in… i’m now happily pulling 25 mb DL… it took alot of time but i got that shit done.

players such as calipower have opened up there homes for people to play at. i’ve opened up my home on numerous occasions… i can only comfortably fit about 4 people in my apt. but i’ve had 10 people in here playing, bumping into each other and shit… i had to move furniture to get this shit going but its worth it.

i’ve taken my console to others places so we can have more than one setup.

we have people that bring televisions and there consoles to our houses also.

my boys place is the size of a bathroom… we had 10 mofos up in there on a weeknight with oppressive neighbors… we had to close all of the windows to keep the noise down… it was HOT AS FUCK, levelin up dat streetfighter in a sweatshop. but we did it and do it cause we are dedicated.

rather than continue to latch on to a dying format (arcades) thus stunting our growth, we should be doing ALL THAT WE CAN POSSIBLY DO to petition capcom to get that awesome netcode into ssf4.

imagine valle being able to play wong with only 2 frames of lag any night they want… good for the community… YES!

we may not get DAT good netcode this version, but that shouldnt stop us from trying the same way we wouldnt stop playing that mofo thats smacking us down mercilessly with his top tier sagat.

the infrastructure (fiber optic) is in place, we can now really take this shit to the next level and up our game… there will no longer be an east coast or a west coast as we will all be able to play each other anytime.

if the code is good enough we can throw europe and japan into the mix as well as china and australia.

so i implore you guys to get up and fight that good fight that is awesome netcode, saying that capcom has a bad track record is a really bad argument.
the truth is that we had bad technology and that capcom has constantly been trying to improve the netcode with games such as mvc2,hdr, and sf4.

we just need to let them know that their job isnt done, that more work needs to be put in, that we wont settle for 5 frames of lag.

they can do it and we can push them into the decision!

WHO BE WITH ME!

ggpo fo LIFE!

^Well the reason that they never win is because they don’t have that arcade experience that the champions do.

+1 for arcade release.

This explains everything for me.

Either way, it seems like we’ll have to rely more on local gaming clubs and whatnot now for competition. One guy (or a few guys) with a console and a game to host weekly gatherings.

Yo real talk art save me a spot at your place when Super SFIV comes out cause we can’t crack it up at CF when it drops.

Sucks how we can’t all meet at a remote location anymore. I’ll be supplying a 360 and a copy of the game when it drops. It really does suck for all the arcades that bothered buying SFIV. First they didn’t get a update to SFIV to add the console characters and now they won’t even give them the next installment in the series. That’s just low. Real low. :shake:

Online play is quite horrible still.

It’s got a long ways to go.

Much, much better off supporting a local scene, however small, than trying to get better online.

Honestly it doesn’t bother me, I play on console with my friends.

I do however enjoy watching high level play so it would be nice if an arcade release (even a delayed one) happens.

Look at the bottom of that dragon slayers thread.

Yeah, some of the things Capcom has been doing don’t make much sense to me either. Could someone please explain the logic behind not releasing HDR in Japan?

I still wouldn’t be surprised if there is an arcade update after the console version drops, a la SFZ3Upper. But since that no doubt would be an update over the console version, that would be even worse, since now everyone except Japan would get shafted, for no logical reason other than ā€œtraditionā€ (the ideal thing would be to patch the consoles to match the arcade at that point, but I seriously doubt that would occur).

oh boy this just gets better and better:looney:

I dunno.

But I dont know if you guys have realized this yet, but Capcom has really be trying to make a presence in the Western market alot more than in Japan lately. A few key people of Capcom even belittled TGS this year and the state of gaming in Japan and how it diminished compared to the America (the current epicenter of gaming), Canada, and Europe. There was quite a few articles about alot of Japanese game companies trying to Westernize themselves, although some are content with their current methods, like Nippon Ichi, the creator of Disgaea and X-Edge.
