Petition for arcade release of SSF4

Why would the Street Fighter IV scene suddenly die because they don’t switch over to SSFIV? It made no difference to them that the console version had extra characters. Maybe Capcom expects SFIV and SSFIV to co-exist. It is funny how the arcade scene seemingly goes dead, to full steam ahead, back to dead at Capcom’s whim.

It seems like we are more worried for Japan and Asia than they are. How can a petition/vote from a website based in a country where SFIV wasn’t even LEGALLY released in the arcade have any more affect than whatever out cry will come from the Asian fans? How do we know that our own gray market illegal importing isn’t one of the (if not the main) reasons that an arcade release doesn’t look that attractive to Capcom?

If we are gonna make a big deal about this shouldn’t we at least make it clear that we want an arcade release here in America, rather than argue the case for a country that has a bigger voice than us already?

Good netcode isn’t good enough any ways. If you’re too busy or just too lazy to get out to a tournament and play in a lag free situation…then whatever. It’s funny that people talk about good netcode when the Japanese players themselves play in “laggy conditions” and they are RIGHT NEXT to each other. Which is lame but true. The screens used for SBO had a delay to them and apparently Daigo himself has mentioned this and was happy to know that Evo was using lag free monitors. So if they’re playing next to each other in lag you know it’s going to be impossible for YEARS for us to play across a country with no lag. I’ve played enough on CRT’s and the Asus monitor where playing on any other HDTV or playing online…you can feel the lag instantly.

Good lag is better than bad lag and would keep people much more competitive across the US but you can’t rely on that to play 100 percent. Me being able to play Dime from all the way across the US with only 1 frame of delay isn’t going to happen for at least another 15 years easy.

Sorry I have not read the whole thread and I bet someone else already pointed this out but…

In my opinion an arcade release is need in order to make this version the global standard. Not getting an arcade release in japan is like not getting a console version for the us and europe since the japanese competitive scene is pretty much based on the arcade version of the game. And in order to get the competitive scene synced an arcade version is needed.

Over and out!

There’s a lot more problems with the socal SF4 scene then not knowing console matchups.

I only want one if it can come to Edmonton

I never understand how people can replace arcades with netcode. FYI many of the best players in Japan don’t even play online. One second or less of button lag is enough to ruin the game (this was coming from the guy who was in charge of VF5 I think?).

I don’t understand most people in this thread. Shit I can’t even play on ggpo and 2df with the frame skipping and stuff like that. It’s just not the same.

Regarding netcode: I just don’t see good netcode being enough to replace arcades. Maybe this is just some emotional thing because I grew up with a Happ 360 stick in my hands at my local arcade…but I just don’t see the same spirit of COMMUNITY happening on online play as I do in the arcades.

Example: I fucking flew all the way to LA from Chicago to play at AI this summer. I know I am NOT the norm, but I had some vacation time and $$$ so I decided to splurge a bit. I wanted to play in this place that I had seen in the videos…I wanted to get that rare chance to go up against a really serious SoCal player.

Boy did I ever! Dae was there, along with SoMuchDamage. Holy shit…it was raep time!!! I got embarrasingly crushed…but there was one major difference: We shook hands after the match. I waited for my next match and I watched these guys beast on other good players, I watched ten people who would under no other circumstances, stand shoulder to shoulder in a small hot room just because we all love this stupid fucking game.

THAT is what online will never replace, the human element of the arcades that, in my humble opinion, IS important to the fighting game community.

And all I’m saying here, is that I don’t want to see that die. And a major SF4 release from Capcom with no arcade release…it sure sounds like the beginning of the end to me.

Signed.

Arturo and others, don’t get me wrong. I’m in favor of there being an arcade release. Its stupid to think against it. I just thought it was retarded to boycott a game for the super small percentage of players that can actually play arcade and also the silly notion that american players can’t learn the game without japan spoon feeding us strats and tricks. I mean if its true, then the us player base is really weak these days that we need to rely on youtube.

Yeah it sucks for that 5% of the community that relies on arcade. But its been going the console route for years, how long did you think it was really going to last. Its just silly people thinkthe game doesn’t have a future cuz of the minority of the scene.

Once again, having arcade is a good thing and I would never say no to arcade release. I just had issues with some things people said. Besides I highly doubt they won’t do an arcade release

I’m actually kind of shocked that ~30 people have voted “No” so far. I’ve never even seen a SF4 coin-op in person. But I know how much that means to people…and how much I miss it.

Like any community, we should NOT agree on every little thing, but we SHOULD collectively try to make a difference, especially when it could be as easy as enough of us clicking a button. Didn’t members of SRK make it possible for JiBbo to go to EVO this year?

Guys…vote “yes.” Even if you disagree. Let’s see what we can do with one button click each!
Oh, and signing the iPetition is a little harder cause you have to type things, but I have faith.

dont care about netcode ever
gimme arc release :<

Everything you said was true but this what pique my interest…

DOOD! Is there a Youtube vid of that ANYWHERE!?

I was wondering when we’d see this. Voted on both. Arcade helps the overall scene and progression of this game and series even though I fully acknowledge Japanese arcades are on the decline.

Everybody please sign this.

The whole world should be playing the same version. Please do not fragment the community. We are trying to grow the international scene, not splinter it.

Yeah Ono is pretty much seeing what some of us may have seen for a while. The only way for SF to truly profit in this day and age is to move it to a much more console favored audience. Much easier and less costly to produce discs of a game for a system that they already paid for then to produce insanely expensive machines that do what a 300 dollar system can do at someone’s house. There’s so many more people that could potentially buy SFIV at their house in America than people have access to an arcade scene in Japan.

The reason SF died in America (leaving only Tekken and Virtua Fighter to make any real console sales) is the fact that the game wasn’t marketed correctly to the newer audience of gamers. Now that SFIV is being marketed the right way (just like Super Smash Bros, Soul Calibur and Tekken have) SF will be able to thrive in an arcade-less environment and unfortunately that’s the only way SF is going to thrive period.

SABRE you summed up what I wanted to post. My herooo

I am starting to believe that you are right…as truly sad as that fact may be.

I think the main issue here is that without arcades, the level of competition and the level of hype can only go down, which, whether you care about the release or not, is a big blow.

problem here is if theres no arcade release then the japanese players will be out of luck. which will most likely mean that this game will probably only be part of american tournaments. so we’ll end up getting less japanese competition over here for it, and our players going over there for competition will be stuck player vanilla street fighter 4. so at the end of the day, why would we end up even playing the new game if its not going to help the competition out?
