half the fun of playing sf4 is watching the scene and watching TRUE masters of the game
play against each other , playing this game without having a target to reach is plain boring , i am
probably gonna play the new BB if there is no arcade release
There’s more votes in this thread than signatures on the petition.

Keep them coming guys.
There should be an arcade release: Japan simply doesn’t play console. And it seems to me, though I could be wrong, that a lot of the best American players are motivated by their competition with the Japanese. No arcade release will end up hurting them in the long run.
To summarize, that’s +1 for an arcade release, even though I live nowhere near an arcade. People should be able to choose where and how they get their SSFIV fix.
I never said I knew about “japan living space/lifestyle.” Do you know about my “living space/lifestyle?” How about the lifestyle of the city I live in? You know what, you should give a fuck about me, nor should I give a fuck about Japan’s living space/lifestyle. What they do is irrelavant to me as long as my living space/lifestyle is unaffected. I’m not trolling, I’m just speaking my mind just as you are. The difference is that you sir… are an asshole.
Moving on…
If they choose not to play this game, oh well…move on to whatever game they play if you wish to compete with them. There have been itterations of SF that were not played competitively for one reason or another. If it happens to SSF4, oh well. I’ll enjoy the game with my group of friends and whatever small band of online warriors are left playing online.
In closing, if you don’t want to play the game due to lack of an arcade scene, don’t play. But if you don’t mind rustling up some comp via console, then by all means do so. Just keep up with the games that will be featured at the upcomming tournaments and leave it at that. Either way, you will still be able to compete in one game or another.
Peace
Hell yeah. Noone is saying we aren’t just as smart and capable as the Japanese. Noone has ever said that.
The reason they are so good though, is because of arcades. Without them, they will basically be on “our level”. Good for us, right? Sucks for them, but who cares they are across the sea. That’s the mentality that gets me sick to my stomach. I then tried to explain to people that the quality of play lowering globally will effect these selfish people as well.
I’ve made my case though. I’ve spent enough energy on this. And hey, there’s always Tekken.
I had a whole thing written out about why I don’t care for an arcade release but… I’ll just get flamed anyway. Petition not signed. Sorry
quoted for the motherfucking truth
I don’t even own a console. If I want to play IV I would import the TypeX2 set up. Of course I need cabs that can run via VGA.
Since this is one of the few posts directed at me, I will try to reply here. For the most part after this thread really took off, my goal was to stay out of it and let the discussion happen.
So, let me try to address a few points:
-
If I seem whiny, that is unfortunate. I don’t feel whiny, but this does concern me. I see a trend, especially on this forum, where any time someone has an issue or a problem, even if the voice that problem in a cogent argument, it is labeled as “whiny” and dismissed. I understand that, because there IS a lot of genuine whining on this forum…but I would hope that with a little careful reading and consideration, we could better distinguish the true whining from a sincere attempt to have a discussion about a perceived problem. :china:

The issue of me wanting to be “spoonfed tactics and strategies”. Sigh. I thought that I had made it very clear in my post, but I will try to restate it in a better way: My issue here is that the flow of knowledge from arcade matches both in Japan and here in the US is very valuable to many players, myself included. I have only been serious about fighting games for a year now, and I have so far only been to a few tourneys (but I go to every one that I can).
We all know that you CAN learn this game without internet match videos. No one is saying otherwise, certainly not me.
**
However, the ability to rapidly share knowledge from one country to another, is extremely valuable. It helps the learning curve and it helps breed better competition everywhere.
I could learn to drive on a racetrack by booking solo track hours and building up a ton of possibly bad habits on my own.
But I prefer to attend a race school, where you see examples of proper technique from some of the best racers in the world.
I see this knowledge sharing between the top players (BOTH here and in Japan) as the equivalent to “race school” for street fighter. It makes everyone better, faster, and that is what these games are all about…getting as good as you possibly can.
Now, I do not want it to sound like I am saying that learning is more about watching than playing. NOT at all. But I have definitely picked up some great techniques by watching top players (both US and Japan based)…then I go hit training mode and local matches to figure out how to apply that technique and see how I can make it work for me.
THAT is the value I was trying to get at…that the information sharing that we all take part in is part of fostering a real community where the experienced people help guide the inexperienced…because EVERYONE WINS in an environment like that.
If there is no arcade scene for SSF4 in Japan and if consequently, many premier Japanese players decide not to play the game, then a large source of that information sharing disappears. Is it ALL the great info? Of course not. Will new US players step up and try to help fill that void? Absolutely!
But will we be BETTER off for it as a global community? My belief is no, we will not.
Please accept this post as my humble opinion as a relatively new player of barely moderate/average skill. But also please accept that I am a DEDICATED player who does everything he can to improve, including local matches more than once a week, training mode on my off days, and I attend every tourney I possibly can.**
EDIT: About me saying I was considering not buying the game. I believe that the solid arguments here have convinced me that not buying the game will only HURT the cause I am trying to promote. Please remember that I never said flat out, “I’m not buying it!” I said I was considering that as a way of saying to Capcom, that its unacceptable to do a console only release.
No flaming intended, but there is a truly unfathomable amount of NON-reading going on here. I don’t know if people are simply skimming through posts, or if they are just so quick to reply that they are not finishing whole sentences. It will only hurt the discussion to do this, please read any post you intend to reply to, CAREFULLY.

Those people are complete garbage and this thread is FULL of them. I never knew people would rather lower the global skill level just so they could feel better about their game.
Good shit parrabellum.
I am REALLY upset about the no arcade announcement. SF4 is a game that could be played competitively for a decade or longer… why would Capcom do anything that might diminish that?
Going to CF has been one of the most fun, interesting, and exciting experiences of my time living in New York… It has become a big part of why I love NYC. Without SSF4 in arcades, CF immediately becomes horribly outdated and, in my mind, damn near irrelevant. With all due respect to those who still go to play ST and 3S and whatnot (and I’m sure I would still go to play classic SF4 occasionally), what makes it fun to me is the excitement of playing the most important fighting game in a decade against the best competition in the country, and Capcom is about to really fuck that up if there is no arcade update.
And obviously, the fact that Japan won’t be playing it is really upsetting. Many people say “what should it matter if Japan plays it in arcades or not.” I’ve never even been to Japan. But the Japanese SF4 arcade scene has been like the NFL, and we have been like NFL Europe. We feed of their excitement and passion for the game. If they pull the plug on the NFL of competitive fighting gaming, then… I don’t even know what to say. What the fuck? I mean how many millions of dollars have the Japanese pumped into that game over the last year? How could it not be worth it, it seems like it would take almost no effort to update the current machines with the new software.
FUCK.

These are the most idiotic reasons I have ever read. None of what you have just said argues in favor of an arcade release as each would be practically the same if it was console-only.
Socal got hurt by the arcade SF4 release because they all just stuck to that and ignored console. Then Alex Valle got his butt whipped by Sakura.
While I think great online is the end-all be-all of competitive fighting game nirvana, I don’t even think we need that.
As a very long time fighting game fan that has always lived in the middle of nowhere where the closest competition was always 2+ hours away, it pisses me off to NO end to see how spoiled a few players are. People complaining about a 30-minute drive to one of the top arcades in the country. Or people actually living in a big city and not knowing where the arcade is. Or people that don’t attend get-togethers. Or people that can only play when they’ve watched a few vids and still end up ducking that player they can’t beat. All despite the facts that they do have the time to play and they do want to get competitive at the game. I’m theory-fighting in practice mode and finding something else new hoping that I’ll be ready when I make that 3+ hour trek up to Memphis on a random weekend. Meanwhile, some guy a half hour away from SVGL would like to play but he hates the drive.
Shit is unacceptable.
except that you are talking about japan and you are guessing what they (the japanese) might do with respect to sf4.
this means that japanese lifestyle / living space is actually pertinent to the conversation whereas nobody is talking about what you are going to do so your lifestyle / living space has nothing to do with anything.
you understand how this logic works right?
and you’re like the 100th poster in here who didn’t read the thread, ignored all the posts that have great counter arguments to what you just posted. and then you have the balls to end your post with “Think about that for a moment”.
i know the thread is long, but don’t come in here and post shit like you got some new revolutionary ideas if you didn’t even read the discussion to begin with.
you’re the one who sounds like an asshole.
also, shut the fuck up about the inferiority complex, japan dick riding thing. nobody in here is dick riding japan. if you want to ignore the arguments about why the japanese scene affects our scene then fine, but don’t fucken insult us with the same old redneck battle cry.
“fuck japan, go usa!” this shit is getting old.
and this is a thread about sf4. so yeah people in here care about whether or not this game does well.
so get the fuck out of here with your… oh well if this game dies, it’s cool, just play some other games or play with your friends.
way to miss the entire point of the thread.
think about this shit for a moment.
bro read the thread again, half the people dont want there to be a arcade release or dont care for a whole host of reasons.
you really think that were gonna get good netcode? coming from capcom? the company that licensed ggpo for use in their future games then never used it for anything? come on lets be real, japan designs netcode to work well with their beastly internet connections, and fuck everything else.
theyre gonna drop the ball yet again on the netcode i bet a million dollars
yeah i sure am a asshole. also youre right, why did i even give a fuck about you enough to respond to what you said in the first place
no it really wouldnt man. also socal got “hurt” by the arcade sf4 release cause capcom fucked up and never patched the chars to the arcade version…loike they should have done in the first place.
I voted ‘No’ just to annoy you guys.
Those were just characters. There are going to big sweeping gameplay changes to SSF4. It’ll be like comparing 3rd Strike to Second Impact.
Seriously, they don’t give a fuck because -
A) Japan has stupid fast internet with like 60 megabit download
B) It’s such a small country that you’d never have the kind of connection troubles you get trying to connect to California from New York.
Right here:
