Petition for arcade release of SSF4

Big problem is when you market a game to the consoles with no arcade version it’s like why the hell sould I play this when it’s not even an arcade game?

Soul Calibur more or less a joke IMO.

Dudley.

Petition and poll signed…

I honestly don’t know how to put my feelings into words regarding this matter, other than I think it’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard. If they’re going to be rebalancing the game and adding even more characters, that pretty much kills any link between the console scene and arcade scene entirely. Fair enough, there is some room for collaberation right now because besides the console characters, console players can go on the arcade and arcade players can go on consoles without worrying too much about not being able to do the things they’ve spent months practicing. However, when things get changed so much that they become two entirely different games, it means death for one of them and I’m dissapointed to say that it might just be SSFIV.

Right now Capcom are forcing players to make a choice, it’s either the arcade players stop playing SFIV in the arcades (after the arcade owners spent $24000 on the Viewlix set-up) and move to console. Or, console players stop playing SSFIV and continue to play SFIV simply because it makes the most sense. Now I can’t guarentee either of these will happnen, I’m not psychic, but what I can guarentee is that some players will ignore SSFIV because they wont be able to go to the arcade and use the tactics they’ve spent god knows how long practicing and perfecting. In the end this decision is stupid, it makes no sense and it can only damage the community. Right now it’s bearable as the origional 17 are close enough to eachother so players can move from one system to the next. But when there’s an extra 15 characters and the origional 17 are rebalanced, it can not work. Players have to make a choice and I’d hate Capcom to waste their time and money on an update that people aren’t going to play.

I’ll believe console is the direction for SF financially when I see statistics that represent that, but right now everyone is going on hearsay. Does anyone know how profitable arcade SF4 was in Japan? How could you say the only way SF will thrive is in an arcade-less environment? Do you have information about the industry Arc System doesn’t??

In america you fool. He’s not talking about japan.

What people who don’t even own consoles (like me)?

I’m sure as hell not buying a console that’s for sure.

First rant,
Me,Watts,Choi,Tomo,Shaeffer, or any OGs didn’t watch shit and we won numerous tourneys nationwide.
I nearly beat the best Japanese player in the world without watching any foreign vid (no youtube in the 90s) - A3 World Tourney vs Daigo (where I inspired him to switch from AKUMA to RYU)

Second,
Nobody is saying Go Fuck Japan. We love the Japanese players, however, at the end of the day we (the AMERICAN players that LIVE in the US) love ourselves more. Sounds like you would rather live in Japan and compete. Sounds good, we won’t miss you either.
I was just there for SBO and talked to Tokido about were he plays. Guess what, he plays at home! They ran a GodsGarden tourney that was console and streamed. If anything Japan is also ADAPTING. Striving or not, the players will play on anything as long as a new version comes out.

Third,
SBO is a great tournament but why do you make it sound to be the end all of the global tournament scene?
Do you think events like EVO will disappear without SBO SSF4 support?
How about Final Round? T-series? Tourneys in Europe? Germany? South America?
I think the world will do just fine.

Fourth,
You are right, the best players will inspire people. But don’t get butt hurt when it’s not the Japanese players this time around.

Fifth,
We aren’t cutting anybody out of the picture, here you go again saying Fuck Japan. The only person saying this is you.
SB4 is bringing Daigo to their event. We gots nothing but LOVE for the Japanese.

Sixth,
Awww so that means you have to get up off your lazy ass and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?
Please re-read my post about Stepping that Community Game Up -
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=7578456&postcount=259
All of those players you mentioned are INSPIRING others worldwide with running their own events or being a part of something that helps the community grow.
WTF ARE YOU DOING???

Last,
Again, the world will do just fine with a console release.
Capcom can’t please everybody, but they can still deliver the games we want. Does that account for anything? Or are you still butt hurt that you won’t be able to Xcopy Jap matches for the next SF?

Feel free to join the rest of the world already playing the console version.

The more I read this thread the more it bothers me.

We basically want an arcade release to appease an island full of people who:

-: Never saw us as competition to begin with.
-: Wouldn’t be taken aback by the lack of a release.
-: We need to leech innovation and experimentation off of.

Am I wrong? Is there really that much of a global arcade market otherwise? I mean think about how hard it would be to sell an update on a disc in this current market, and you want to make arcade owners who’ve barely had double digit board for a year chip in lord knows how much just to play catch up with the console version?

No thanks. Fucking manning up, wise up.

And I say all this with being in perfectly acceptable travel distance to Chinatown Fair, which I go to weekly.

lol edit: God damn it Valle, had to post right after you, didn’t I.

:looney:

A lot of people are missing the point. I am still going to get this game, but it is going to be so much less relevant without the highest level of competition to stand up against. I agree it’s silly to think Americans can’t come up with strategy and technique even without an arcade scene. But the best and brightest that have always been a marker for where everyone wants to be is going to look elsewhere. It’s not that we stand in awe of Daigo, Justin, Mago or Ed Ma. It’s that see what they do, practice it, fight against it, develop counters, etc. I think the inferiority complex that people talk about is irrelevant for half of this community. I may never beat Daigo, but it isn’t just about me. Sabin has beaten Daigo and even chose to go to Japan to brush up on his game even more. It’s not that he sees Daigo or the Japanese as some sort of unpassable obstacle, but a point to aim for. Being over there he has said that he feels a lot more comfortable about match-ups which is a good thing for the US scene because then we have a higher marker to aim for. It trickles down, makes the competition stronger and the events even more exciting. And that’s what this entire subculture is about: exciting competition.

@Valle: Sure the Japanese will adapt, but it isn’t going to be overnight. The current generation may just say fuck it. And as a high level competitor, how can you feel comfortable knowing that even though you may technically be the best, you’ll never be sure because a large segment of the pool has either been watered down or omitted altogether. It’s like someone winning the heavyweight boxing championship without ever fighting any top contenders. Yah, you’re #1, but who have you beaten?

Wow, Valle said everything I thought.

See, even he said it.

Alex you have gained so much respect from me

Ignoring the whole “we need arcades to be good issue,” do you play SFIV at the arcade? If so, will you still play SFIV at the arcade once SSFIV is released?

I want to sign it so i can get it into my arcade…want to help?

alex, you are my hero and inspiration. You said what I try to say.

Assuming Ono isn’t lying again, I’m pretty sure the Japanese arcade heads will continue to play vanilla SF4 if there isn’t an arcade release. The Japanese arcade scene will be just as solid as ever if this does stay console only. HD remix never changed the hearts of Japanese ST, nor should it.

For those that consider SBO to be the tournament to really test your skills should continue to use vanilla characters, simple as that. For Japan, I really doubt they think of EVO as “the” tournament to attend, it’s probably fun just to hit up Vegas and get blasted together. The only time I remember a lot of Japanese players coming down to EVO was for 3s and Cvs2 (MOV, Nitto, Kokujin, Daigo, Nuki, Ino, Tokido, pretty sure I’m missing some more) and I doubt they came for the comp ;). Though, I could be 100% wrong, just an assumption.

Alex Valle, you said every single word that would’ve came out of my big fat mouth. You are truly an inspiration and my hero.

See, even though he said every single word that I would have said, he agrees with what I have to say.

You are my hero, Mr. Alex “CaliPower” Valle.

Respect.

Sorry Alex but if SSFIV will never have an arcade release then IMO it’s pretty much becomes a joke.

I honestly wouldn’t even care if it was console only.

But that’s just me.
