how do you know this have you been to japan and traveled around in arcades in tokyo/osaka like i have? i mean seriously man come on.
noone is saying its the most dominant game out there because people in japan play other games besides sf, but there is a large community here for the game which cant be denied, stop spinning shit
I signed but is there anything stopping arcades doing cabinet style things with the console version?
I ask because just a while ago I saw this xbox cabinet thing with 2 control pads (saitec I think) and a selection of games that you could play when you put a coin in at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Derby a while ago and have been wondering what is stopping that being done with fighting games, just swapping out the pads for sticks?
Or hell whats stopping lan centres from running it? They aren’t quite as dead as the arcades yet.
except for the people who like to play in the arcade and play againts a varity of characters and styles offline
This was touched on earlier in the thread.
Basically, there are legal ramifications to just rig up a cabinet with a PS3 or 360 in a Japanese arcade.
However there are centers that do this, and they tried with Soul Calibur IV (failed), but the big centers are not going to do this.
The post is around page 12 I believe. I’ll try to dig it up.
I’m looking for it now… it’s buried under a lot of meaningless bullshit posts
I know I’m not the only one that saw the damned vid that said they were doing Arcade Loke Test shortly after TGS 09.
cause arcade operators have standards? and wouldn’t that be consider illegal? no?
I suppose the console part might work out in the arcades. But what about sbo? It isn’t likely that they will switch to console since they are an arcade tourney. With a devastating loss of tournaments like sbo, will there be enough drive for people to train/play? It might be true that its not our concerns because we don’t live in Jap but I’d like to look at the entire fighting community as a whole.
GOGOG SABIN!
Arcade release is as important (if not more) than the console release. It’s been stated before, most gamers in Asia don’t even have consoles. And the arcade scene is so great, i wish they hadn’t died out here in Italy… Sigh…
I haven’t heard anything like that Mycah. And I’ve been following the news very closely, including the rumors prior to and during TGS.
Ah thanks, but isn’t there always the chance of arcade owners getting permission to do this like the shopping centre did with my example?
(There was a bunch of different games by different developers but I can only remember Hawk being on it atm)

The link http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/SSFIVArcade/ should be in the opening post of this thread… If not, it will just dissapear in the thread!
The tournament scene needs this to be in arcades in japan if they don’t play it with high level competition it will be slow for the game to grow
Signed it.
I’m all for SSF4 being made available to the arcade as well as console…I actually think there is a big possibility it will still be brought to arcade.
However, if Capcom does decide to leave out arcade ports entirely…I’m ready to accept that.
I know this thread is for an arcade release, but I’m going to state why we should consider “no” arcade release a good thing.
The typical beta testing is done in Japan – this gives a huge advantage to a specific region of the world of players! By NOT going to the arcade and getting to the console’s first (or only), then the whole world learns the game at the same time.
In effect, it helps level the playing field on day 1 of release. I’d expect more “patches” to the game because of this.
