That’s IF they do this. I’d like to see it, but will it happen? Will players support it?
Japan’s not known for fully thinking outside the box.
Let’s hope that they have this idea if Capcom is dead set on not doing an arcade patch.

Oh I do know about the housing system over there, don’t worry.
So you’re just a moron then?
It seems the logical next step, given the retarded expenses involved with the beauty that is View-Lix.
They need to do what they did with automotives - copy America and then make it a shit-ton better.
Japan getting screwed affects us too.
Who is the biggest source of competition? The Japanese.
IF they don’t play SSF4 because it’s on console and not arcade, then we are fucked for competition.
Who are we gonna play? Ourselves? USA or the rest of the world isn’t even close to being as good as Japan. This isn’t nut-huggery. It’s the truth.
So OK, USA is the best at SSF4. Can you really be satisfied with that, considering that Japan doesn’t play the game?
Without Japan there is no competition worthwhile. Why is that? It’s because the Japanese are the best.
To be the best, you gotta beat the best.
Obviously he’s a Kanye West Supporter.
Real shit.
Those arcade cabs can’t go to waste now can they?
From what I’ve read the main complaint concerning SSFIV (pretty much every other post) is that Capcom integrated a Korean character because some Koreans asked about that. That really gets 'em riled up.
Though I suspect that’s mostly the scrubs…
I thought that was the point of the Famicom anyway
I feel you, but I fear Japan will only think of Arcades as Candy cabs with extravagant guts, not a cabinet with a game console in it. That’s both owners and players.
Players could honestly think, “Well, if it’s a console game, then I should just as well go home and play it on my console, right?” And then promptly NOT go home and play it on their console.
Obviously.
Yeah, a moron is someone who enjoys listening to certain types of music. Gee, you’re intelligent.
I always thought it was the Koreans that got riled up over the Japanese and not Vice Versa?
It works in theory, but in execution it gets tougher. If you can somehow get a pay per play system working on a console, it would work. But the problem is HOW would you do that? You’d need cooperation from console manufacturers such as Microsoft and Sony.
Japanese companies have already been working on new pay systems for a while (see my site: http://www.versuscity.net/2009/05/18/edy-system-in-action/) – but the problem is that they need a way to use this on a home console before it can succeed in replacing an arcade.
Basically, it boils down to this… a typical Japanese apartment is too small to hold gatherings. I have a regular sized apartment… I can fit maybe 1 or 2 other people there, that’s it.
There can be an establishment that has consoles and TVs and games, but then it becomes something akin to a Japanese-style karaoke, where ONLY your friends can come in and play. And if you do that, it’s just the same as having a house gathering, right? Random guys can’t join in and play, and you won’t have happenings such as fucking Mago and Tokido invading a random arcade in Nagano and going a combined 400 - 9 because everyone will be shut in and playing their familiar friends and friends of friends.
See, the reason why Japanese players are that much better than Westerners is because arcades force you to play against everyone and anyone, from friends to strangers. You can’t ragequit, you don’t have to really search for anyone if you’re in a busy arcade. You’re there until you lose, and then you have to decide whether you continue or to leave completely. So it does not even matter if someone can “kinda sorta” emulate it, because it’s not going to be the same. That’s what it’s going to be like in Japan if there’s no arcade version. The SF community will still be there, it will just be a lot weaker, and less impressive. I can accept it if there is no arcade version, but I won’t like it and I realize that it will really make the community weaker if it happens.
We’re really at the crossroads between online play and arcade play, which is why the transition is so painful, but I guess that’s what makes life exciting.
The Japanese have a rather hard time accepting the fact that they were wrong for their invasion of Korea during the years leading up to and during WW2.
You said it a lot better than I could’ve.
The only way SSF4 in an arcade on a console would work is with a LAN ability, to connect only to local matches, so that you would have the same atmosphere.
Yes, I see this.
There would need to be some form of regulation to be sure - else they’d run the risk of not having people get their fair share of play.
That would be the rub.
Yo, thethrillisgone, I’m really happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but I just wanna to say that Reno made the best debate of all time! Of All time!
Not sure why people would be working themselves into a lather over SSFIV’s apparent arcade no-show. The series is doomed to the mainstream/causal market from now and forever, with the Japanese hardcore’s scrutiny or without. If the atrociously messy gameplay of IV didn’t demonstrate thus in the most scrubcentrically definitive way, then I don’t know what will.
I mean, even the oh so fawned upon, self-styled SF god, Daigo Umehara, Himself was quoted as saying His favorite aspect of IV was the DATA CARD SYSTEM…!
Errr… wut? :wtf:
Well, that’s just Japan pushing what they did under the rug, and not really acknowledging the wrongdoings to Korea.
Which is why Koreans still hate Japanese. Not all, but quite a number.
I seriously won’t be buying if it’s console only. I’m not suggesting that anyone boycott the console version. If you like it you should buy it.
The fact is that I like SF4 and I like going to the arcade, but if forced to choose between the 2, I will continue to go to the arcade and play whatever game is there. I suspect a lot of other people in Japan will do the same.
It shows how much experience you have playing with random strangers or familiar opponents that you know and how much they progressed.
It was a pretty good post, I must say.
